Beer Stock Market - Internet User Venture Capital!

Hi all,I’ve been busy building this “online stock” market over at SiteHoppin.com.
Go check it out as we just launched it…and I need some rest from 5 straight days of ridiculous coding…
SiteHoppin Beer Stocks are “internet stocks”, we call IUVC (Internet User Venture Capital), that allow you to buy into our new company without having to invest millions, unlike Venture Capital.
Basically, when you buy Beer Stocks, you become co-owners of SiteHoppin.com. We probably won’t let you run the site, but we are giving every internet user an opportunity to invest in one of the fastest growing web sites on the internet.
You can read more about it on our Beer Stocks FAQ.
DIY HACK - How to make your own UPS for your computer and other peripherals during power outage!

The other day, my home had power-outage for like 6 hours. I could go buy a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), or I can make my own UPS using a car battery.
Well, I am just hoping this DIY UPS lasts 6 hours so I can keep using my spare laptop, which shouldn’t need that much power anyways to run off the UPS. But if I tried to run my desktop PC, it’d probably last only 2-3 hours at most, maybe even less.
This DIY is for 220 Volts so you will have to make some calculations to make sure you are providing the correct number of invertors and etc…etc… Btw, if you do use it for powering up your laptop, you don’t need an invertor as most laptops are around 12VDC anyways, which is what car batteries are at. (But you will need to hack an adaptor to the laptop for sure)
In this article we look at how you can cobble together a 220 Volt power supply using components you can buy at your local automotive store. But first it is important to understand a few basics about batteries, and how to convert 12 Volt DC battery supplied electricity into 220 Volt AC current that your household appliances can use.
A twelve Volt battery is a storage device that, when charged, stores electricity in chemical structures that can reverse and release electricity if required. Batteries are typically rated in Amp Hours (AH) - ie how many Amps for how many hours the battery will perform. An inverter is a device which can take the DC current from a battery and convert it into 220V AC current for your appliances.
To calculate how many batteries you need, and how big an inverter is quite simple. Investigate the specification plates on the back of each appliance. In the case of my laptop, the power supply is a 90W unit.
For an inverter one can work on a rule of thumb that to produce 100W will require approximately 10 Amps, hence in reality the lap top requires about 10 AH of battery life per hour. With a 90 AH battery one can therefore expect about 9 hours of power before the battery provides too little current to keep the inverter going. But it is not this simple.
Virgin Mobile uses Spitzer as a marketing “tool”

Virgin has always been doing these kinda things, ganging up on their competition or picking on poor politicians. Hey, at least they always worked.
Virgin Mobile Canada knows how frustrated people can get with the lack of personalized service these days. Faster than Eliot Spitzer could say, “Um, oops,” the company came out with a print ad that features the newly former New York governor, aka Client #9, musing as follows under a thought bubble: “I’m tired of being treated like a number…”
iPhone 2.0 coming soon… with 100 million dollars for app developers!

Lol… check out iPhone’s counter-attack on Google 10 million dollar prizes to Android developers.
Who will win? Definitely, iPhone is way ahead as far as technology and Google’s simply chippin’ away to their new venture.
The only thing I hope for? That, Apple gets their bandwidths straight and start getting on CDMA networks or even better, WiMax.
With all the telecommunications companies profiting off old outdated technologies in the US, WiMax might still be years away but at least somebody is trying.

Here’s an interesting web app that Yahoo’s workin’ on that will bring not only instant messenger service but all type of social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, etc…etc… Looks pretty good, not that I’d use it.
Yahoo demonstrated its upcoming oneConnect service at MWC 2008 held in Barcelona, Spain. It will be the first mobile product with an open architecture that aggregates communications tools such as email, instant messaging (IM), text messaging (SMS), and social networks.
Yahoo! oneConnect includes following features like Socially-connected address book, Integrated mobile messaging, Status, Pulse, Favorite and many more.
This service is expected to become available in Q2, 2008.

Palm emulation for iPhone/iPod touch demonstrated?!?
Click Here to View in Full Screen Mode
This is a funny video of people trying to emulate Palm on the iPhone. What a waste of time.
I could, however, understand it if they emulated the iPhone on the Palm.
This is like emulating PS3 on NES. (not that it is possible)
We give props though for hacking it up. Great job on the hacking. :p
Charge your gadgets for free
There is an idea that by producing a sophisticated piece of cloth, you will be able to charge up all of your gadgets by somehow connecting to it, this is not static electricity, which you get when rubbing your shoes on the carpet, this is something completely different.

The cloth would be made up with nanogenerators built into the fabric, there would be millions of these tiny generators and every time the fabric is stretched or pulled there will be a small electric charge produced.
Its early days, but this could be promising for the future.

The compressed air bike
This is a great idea out the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, this bike will use a pneumatic system rather than that of a chain, this makes the ride smoother as when the pedals are used these will then make compressed air to push through the bike and then turn the wheels in a smooth action.

The frame of the bike is made from a vacuum formed metal, which has been heated to very high temperatures and as for the tyres, these are light completely air tight rubber which in all adds to the smoother ride.
