DIY - How to Make Avery Labels in a Whopping 30 seconds!

The other day, my girlfriend’s brother wanted me to make him some address and shipping labels for his new Thai restaurant. Well, I didn’t want to pay taxes, I found a good site on Google called World Label. They got pretty good prices, much better than getting them at your OfficeDepot or OfficeMax. Since they are based in New York, I didn’t have to pay taxes (I am California) or pay the overpriced retail prices. Since the matter wasn’t urgent, I figured it’d be a good go.
You should check out their Generic Avery labels and Shipping Labels, the prices are much better than your local retail shop. World Label also has many other interesting labels such as the CD/DVD Labels or Starburst Labels, which I might use in the near future.
Why do you ask? I never buy anything retail or at least at retail prices. There are so many great online stores you can visit, why bother even wasting your gas? Especially books, I saved a bunch of money by becoming an Amazon affiliate and buying it from myself. (Although I think their ToS says not to, I figure I couldn’t get caught in their gigantic system. Besides, I am not making any money being an Amazon affiliate.) Amazon has a great discount on books even if you are not an affiliate, it’s 25-30% cheaper than buying from your local Borders or Barnes & Noble.
Well, the point of the story is that I did try to use Microsoft Word to make the labels but I encountered a problem. Most of the time when I make labels, I usually end up spending 5 hours trying to align my address to the labels. It’s a big headache even if I think about it. I did used to use a label machine but that was at my old job and I was stuck with my good ol’ HP Deskjet F380.
The greatest part about this experience is that the labels I bought from World Label also provides free templates for all the labels they sell. I did try to download it from the Avery site, but they make you register and you know how I hate to put any personal information on any site or even bother registering.
Anyways, here’s how you can make Avery Labels and Shipping Labels in a whopping 30 seconds!
1) Download the free Avery Label template = 5 seconds.
2) Open up the template in Microsoft Word = 5 seconds.
3) Type in the address, then copy & paste to all the 36 label spots = 20 seconds.
4) Hit the print button! (Okay, we didn’t include the time to print since you can do other things while it’s printing.)
I like to save a lot of time when I do stuff, and these free templates just saved me like 5 hours of stupid alignment work. I wonder who’s behind the company, they did a great job of making these labels and save me a bunch of time. (Will they send me a sample? Lol…everytime I add this line, I get free stuff, isn’t that crazy?)
Maybe you can bookmark this post for your next label printing time and make sure to subscribe to Zedomax for more little DIYs that will save you time around the office.
Our next goal, a blog about nothing!
Okay, we sold Wagg.It for $2000 on SitePoint today, which is good since our $800 server fees were due today and I just had enough money to pay my rent. We will be okay for next month. We are just hopin’ that SiteHoppin’ takes off a little bit more but so far, so good for our efforts.
Our next goal is to turn Zedomax.com into a blog about nothing like John Chow’s blog. Why? Well, he’s makin’ like 25 grand a month! Well, we make like $800 a month. We got a long way to go but with your help spreading the word about SiteHoppin, that could happen. duh~
We tried too hard with not enough money or food. I’ve lost about 10 pounds last couple months just trying to cope with myself losing my job and whatever. At least, now I am free, totally free to be my own boss and take the time to take my girlfriend’s brother’s dog Za out for a jog everyday.
So, what the WTF?
Nothin’ This is a blog about nothing but stupid technology we have to deal with everyday. If you don’t visit Zedomax.com everyday, you will die the next day!!! Hahaha….LOL…
U know what I realize over the years? Well, this is coming from the man who experienced it. Nobody cares about you, especially how you are going to make a living everyday.
So how to beat this shi+? Simply, beat your own life up everyday. That’s right, you beat yourself, and you will be successful. Beat yourself, and you will be SUCCESSFUL!
Yes, you are the only enemy of yourself and you are the only competitor of yourself. If you don’t know that, read Guy Kawasaki’s book on “How to drive your competition crazy”.
Why BlogRush will die and SiteHoppin will exponentially grow!

Remember I did a review of Blogrush and Entrecard right before Entrecard started taking off?
Well, here’s why BlogRush will die and SiteHoppin will exponentially grow! (Sorry John, we are just using your site as comparison, no pun intended)
1. SiteHoppin is like a dog. Well, here’s how I got that analogy. I don’t own a dog but I do love dogs and my parents have dogs. During the last few days I was taking care of Za, my girlfriend’s brother’s dog, I have come to realize that SiteHoppin is like a dog who takes a leak here and there so other dogs can find it and mark their territory.
What the heck does that have to do with exponentially growing? Well, dogs like to mark their territories everywhere they go. They will only “mark” their spots in certain location they sense the “smell”. I don’t know how they do it. But it’s how dogs interact or communicate with each other. Basically, every time you take a leak, you are leaving a trace for the other dogs.
Well, SiteHoppin is no different. Every time you visit a site on SiteHoppin, you are marking your territory on someone’s site. Those site owners find out through site stats and get to know SiteHoppin and start using it to promote their sites. You can see some of the stats here to see what I mean here on the new SiteHoppin blog.
So, what the heck is the point of the story? Nothing. We are thanking everyone who has signed up for SiteHoppin’ and we promise the first-comers will get massive traffic in return.
As you can see in the above graph, we should be able to eclipse BlogRush very soon if our traffic keeps rising. In just 7 days since our public beta launch, we have gained at least 50% as much as traffic as Blogrush. (not that that’s a real accomplishment…) Join the new phenomenon, go try out SiteHoppin as it’s being developed LIVE! (It’s like watching a cooking show on TV, kinda like IronChef where you get to “see” the process)
Well, we will stop selling our new wiki technology here and start blogging more about other CES 2008 stuff.
Here’s the fun part:

Check out the pageviews of SiteHoppin vs. Zedomax.com. SiteHoppin gets almost 3 times more pageviews! I guess that’s probably from all the people that are SiteHoppin’… :p
DIY - HOWTO Take your life back from your computer!

Lol…here’s a DIY that will help you get away from the computer. Well, after this post, I am going to the beach baby! (great thing the Pacific Ocean is only 5 minutes away from my apartment) When we come back from the beach walking my girlfriend’s brother’s dog (that we have been dog-sitting for couple days), I will post some videos of the Pacific Ocean so don’t get jealous. :p Peace OUT!
Plan specific activities away from your computer
If you don’t plan specific activities for whilst you’re away from the computer, then you are much more likely to fall into the trap of aimless surfing or playing Solitaire when you have spare time to kill or just need a break from the work.
