There has been never a better time for people to create new eco-friendly planes that use pure electricity and here’s such DIY electric airplane that can go fly for about 1 hour on a single charge.  Way too cool, now please make me an electric helicopter.

We have converted my single place, all metal Moni motor glider into a small, efficient electric airplane.  We used our ElectraFlyer propulsion parts kit and our large battery pack, custom built to fit the available space in the airplane. The plane was raised for more ground clearance and a larger, slower-turning, much more efficient prop was installed. Static thrust has increased 60%. The plane received its airworthiness certificate in April. The ElectraFlyer-C is flying now and the climb rate has increased dramatically. The flying character of the plane has changed from a very loud, vibrating experience to a smooth quiet ride.

The company called Voltaic Systems, have been making these awesome solar backpacks and laptop bags as of recently.  One of the latest products is the Voltaic Generator series, which features large solar cells on the side of the bag.  Not only does this laptop bag recharge your gadgets such as an iPhone, it also recharges your laptop, so long as you don’t own high-amp laptops, most likely from Fujitsu, Sony, or Toshiba.  But if you own Apple, Dell, HP, IBM, or Lenovo, there’s a good chance this solar bag is all you need the next time you are outdoors with your laptop.

The new Voltaic Generator Laptop Bag comes in two flavors, orange and charcoal at Amazon for $499 each.

The Voltaic Generator is the first solar bag powerful enough to charge a laptop,using high efficiency solar cells. It includes a battery pack custom designed toefficiently store and convert the electricity generated. It will also charge cell phones and most other hand held electronics. Solar panel generates up to 15 watts using 20% efficienct cells, enough to fully charge the Voltaic battery in about 5 hours. The included battery pack stores the equivalent of a typical laptop charge and automatically delivers the required output voltages. Common adaptors are included for connection to laptops, phones and other handheld devices. Or connect via USB or car charger. Fabrics made from recycled PET (soda bottles), which is tough and water resistant. Note: Not all manufacturers enable charging from external batteries and the adaptors do not fit all laptops. Check out this new Wiimote charger that supposedly uses lighter lithium polymer batteries coupled with contactless re-charging.

Teknocreations has unveiled their InCharge battery pack and charge stand for Wiimotes. The new stand uses a set of lithium polymer batteries, which, according to the press release, are half as heavy as other rechargeables and work over hundreds of charges. Each charge provides 25 hours of gameplay. The stand can charge two Wiimotes side-by-side.

Here’s a cool Yamaha R1 that’s been converted to an Electric Bike and still does 100MPH with 54 horsepower.

That might not seem a lot but it is for an electric bike.

Electric Motorsport of Oakland Ca debut of the AC inductance Yamaha R1. This revolutionary electric motorcycle is powered by a 550amp 84v AC inductance electric drive system providing 54HP and 81 ftlbs of toque allowing the vehicle to attain speeds of over 100mph. Builders Justin Gray, Todd Kollin, and sponsor Richard Hatfield of Alliance Renewable Energy created the Electric motorcycle to provide a Zero Emissions alternative to sport bike riders and commuters. The final build will have a 8.1 kW lithium iron phosphate battery pack that will power the vehicle for a 100 mile range.

For these two videos I’m using a 1/16″ two flute slot cutter, the router is running at approx 35,000 Rpm, the additional battery on the to of the hex is a 12V NiMh 4500mah pack just to run the router. DXF files are loaded in to artcam where G-code tool paths are created. Due to the 10mm thickness of the poly and the cutter only being 6mm long, I chose to do two passes on the workpiece, this also shows that although the resolution is low, repeatability is good enough for multiple passes. Material is held down by the weight of the hexapod, which is current;y 4.3Kg with the router and additional battery pack
