Google doesn’t care about Mexican people?!?

Google doesn\'t care about Mexican people?!?

Lol… Google doesn’t care about Mexican people?

Well… that might be over-analysis. Did you know that 5/5 is also Children’s Day in Korea?

With the high number of Latino community, I believe Google could have easily given their custom graphics to celebrate the 5/5 day.

Oh well, every day is a new day. The richer get richer, the poorer get poorer, doesn’t that ring a bell in the Web2.0 world?

Ask.com bungled the spelling of Cinco de Mayo, but at least they made an effort. Pictured here are Yahoo’s animated mariachis and dancers. But Google, the company well known for its holiday flights of logo fancy? Nada. Yes, it’s actually a minor holiday south of the border. But the victory in Puebla over the French has gone unnoticed in the Googleplex for the ninth year running.

How to “not” to respond to a blog review!

Posted in Blog, Business, Cool, Entrepreneurs, Web, WebApp by max on the May 3rd, 2008 at 3:44 am

Hi folks, I did a review on how easy it is to start a 125 pixel exchange network. Of course, it was an “honest” opinion as every review on Zedomax.com is.

But this morning, I woke up to find out this e-mail from the owner of Nuacco.net from S. Masterov portachi@gmail.com:
(Normally I don’t disclose the parties but in this case, I felt more righteous to disclose it.)

hi,

here are some stats from your nuacco.net account:

You have send 348 clicks to network

You have received 586 from the network

And here quote from Your site “(Compare us to ratios like 2:1 (Spottt.com), 10:1 (Nuacco.Net)”

so I want to say Fuck You and Your account has been banned @ nuacco.net

Now I could be very nasty and tell him lots of stuff, but the point of this post is not to respond to a blog review with anger, no matter how negative it is for your service or product.

The above real life example shows Nuacco as very unprofessional and does not explain anything. A better way would to explain in detail how they can improve their service and how I could make changes to get a better ratio.

I myself have been guilty of doing such things, but with time and experience, anger will never help you. You can read about how to remove anger over at my friend’s Deimos blog, a great story by the way.

Why?

Well, in internet marketing, any review is a good review and you get more online exposure. There’s no positive or negative. If you get a link back from an established blogger, you should thank him regardless of the review itself as that all funnels into more PageRank for you and people find out about your service/product.

Even this post itself is actually helping Nuacco get more online presence.

I’ve actually stopped using Nuacco on Zedomax.com long time ago simply because they offer 2:1 impressions ratio for the first month or so and it goes all the way down to 10:1 impressions.

I had couple Nuacco widgets on my other smaller blogs but I guess I will have to remove them all now.

The number of clicks I got from Nuacco probably consists mostly from when I used it on Zedomax.com in the first month when they give you free 10K impressions plus the 2:1 impressions. So in all, the guy didn’t do a full detailed analysis of my recent stats.

Final Thoughts

Well, I don’t really give a &*&* about Nuacco’s service or Spottt or any other 125 banner exchange service as it gives me maybe 20 clicks at most to Zedomax.com. Compare that to 10,000 views Zedomax.com from natural traffic. I usually end up the too nice guy who helps someone else in exchange for clicks that don’t bring in any revenue.

I am currently using 125exchange.com, only because the owner was very positive and even bought a Beer Stock from me over at SiteHoppin.com. Now 125exchange.com also doesn’t really help my traffic, but I use it because I like the guy behind it.

Now, I have been very positive about Nuacco service until this morning when I got the e-mail. I hope you guys are happy now that I did another review for you. And next time, check my site stats before telling me you will ban me. I will probably ban you more than you will ban me.

In business and life, you need a positive outlook on everything. Without that, you will miserably fail even if you have a million dollar VC funding.

Okay, thanks for reading today’s rants, now to move on with life and technology…

DIY Hack - How to make your plugins work in Firefox 3 Beta!

Posted in Computer, Consumer, Cool, DoItYourself!, Firefox, HOWTO, Hack, Web, WebApp, browser by max on the May 2nd, 2008 at 10:26 am

DIY Hack - How to make your plugins work in Firefox 3 Beta!

Well, if you are like me, an early adaptor, you probably are already using Firefox 3 Beta. As many of you know, a lot of your Firefox plugins do not work or is not compatible with the new FF3.

Here’s a simple way to make it work: (Thanks to Lifehacker)

1. Type About:config in your FF3 Browser address bar.
2. Right click->New->Boolean then, type in extensions.checkCompatibility, select false.
3. Right click->New->Boolean then, type in extensions.checkUpdateSecurity, select false.

This pretty much disables your compatibility and update security check for all the plugins. Now, some of your plugins may not work and you might not be able to re-start your browser.

Well, if this happens, it’s pretty easy to fix. (for PCs)

Go to G:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bwso99u0.default\extensions where Administrator is your Windows username and bwso99u0.default can be different. (It will be something along the lines of xxxxxxx.default)

Note: Make sure to set your File browser to view “hidden files and folders” as the Application Data folder is actually hidden as default. Make sure that the folder you are in matches above, otherwise you are probably in the wrong folder

Once you are in your extensions directory, you can move any of the folders to a temporary folder until your Firefox 3 works. Or simply move all of them to a temporary folder then move them back to the extensions directory one by one until you get a handful of plugins that work.

I’ve also found out that Google Toolbar doesn’t work with Firefox 3 so, above steps will most likely be necessary in your hacking without completely disabling your precious foxy animal.

I ran into this nice gentleman, Chris, a co-founder of ThoughtFarmer.com. They provide IntraNet solutions to your company using easy to use web interfaces where your employees and employers can interact within the company w/o using traditional methods of communication such as e-mail and documents.

It’s sorta like a those Enterprise Wikis but the first thing I noticed about their Intranet platform is the quality graphics and simple design as shown here:

ThoughtFarmer provides awesome Intranet platform!

The funny thing that happened during the meeting was not the company itself but how they were marketing using some guerilla tactics. Chris showed me how they made this “fake company” all with employee badges and a welcome letter, sent to about 50 well known bloggers. I guess a lot of bloggers founded very creative and funny so they posted it about it such as ReadWriteWeb.

Anyways, you can check out how they did it all at their blog post over here. Next time you use this type of pyro marketing, you can thank me and Chris for it. They actually even paid $5,500 bucks to a marketing firm so get some free marketing tips over at their blog!

DIY HACK - How to make your own Sawed-Off USB Cable!

DIY HACK - How to make your own Sawed Off USB!

Yey, here’s a fun little DIY for those of you who want to mask your secret USB drives as a “Sawed-Off USB Cable“.

This might prove to be the best security protection you ever had for your USB device. (Why didn’t I think of this before???)

Holy crap– somebody just went and TORE MY FREAKING USB CABLE IN HALF while it was still attached to my laptop!!!

No– wait– sorry. That’s just my USB drive. My bad. Never mind.

I had a chance to stop by Snap’s booth AGAIN after seeing them AdTech. So, I finally got Brendon to talk to me about their new publisher program that pays you for using Snap.com on your site.

Btw, Snap.com is a free service that gives you a snapshot of the hyperlinked URL when you hover over it.
I had this on some of my “failed” social networking sites over here.

By using their publisher program (which I believe is by invitation only), you can get a share of their ad revenue from those snap shots.  Of course, you need some good quality content and minimum traffic of 250,000 views or more per month.

I will be e-mailing Brendon soon and try out the publisher program to see if I can get better results than I am with my other advertisers.  I will have another review in about a month to tell you how it worked so make sure to subscribe to Zedomax!

(Thanks again Brendon, for the explanation of your new program!)

DynamicToolbar.com builds customized toolbars for companies @ Web 2.0 Expo 2008 SF

Here’s a short video clip of what DynamicToolbar does. Basically they are a professional development company that specializes in building toolbars for companies who are looking for a customized service. Although I am building my SiteHoppin Toolbar from scratch by reading books, this might be a great way for companies that want a nice professional “customized” version.

There are lots of free tools out there to build a toolbar, but they usually come with extraneous stuff you don’t need and those free toolbars run really slow.

So check out DynamicToolbar if you are looking for a professional-grade toolbar done right.

Web2.0 Expo 2008 - How to build a Web 2.0 Interactive Resume using VisualCV!

Well, I ran into this nice lady who explained how VisualCV works at the Web 2.0 Expo.

I think it’s a really good idea that they’ve actually made resume into a Web2.0ish interactive media.

It’s basically a free service that let’s you build resumes for yourself or even companies.

Instead of sending attachments, now you can simply point to your online resume as mine here:

http://www.visualcv.com/zedomax

(I made it in about 5 minutes)

Here’s a screenshot:

The greatest part about this VisualCV is that it comes loaded with widgets and AJAX drag and drop technology, so you can easily build a cool looking resume in just 5 minutes. (provided you already have an offline resume to copy and paste like me)

Anyways, check it out as these guys also even let you embed YouTube videos into your resume, how cool is that?  Another great feature is that there’s a PDF converter so your new employers can download the resume as PDF in a snap.

Of course, some of you guys are good enough to create all this from scratch but you do also get good online visibility of your resume on the site itself as VisualCV grows.
