If you are thinking about making your own Parabolic Mirror, (whether you are making a parabolic solar cooker or simply just ‘caz) here’s great set of videos you can refer to for some tips.

You can make a parabolic mirror from an old satellite TV dish, or a bathroom vanity mirror but that’s not fun. Making your own mirror allows you to get the exact curvature you need for whatever you might be burning, cooking or heating. It’s a fair amount of work, but the resulting energy the mirror produces is amazing.

Here’s an interesting video that shows hackers sniffing the Wifi to retrieve Gmail cookie. Of course, this is when you are using Gmail without HTTPS secure access.

For secure Gmail, simply use https://gmail.com instead of http://gmail.com.

For analyzing your network whether that be Wifi or wired, you might want to consider trying the following TCP/UDP network analyzers.

Download Ethereal - I have used Ethereal for a long time before when I used to work as an embedded network engineer.  It’s a great tool and shows pretty much every packet your network passes around. (great for wifi)

Download Wireshark - Similar to Ethereal, I believe this tool is based on the same core as the Ethereal.

Have you ever wondered what lightening looks like in slow motion?

Well, as you can see in this video, things are not always what they seem.

You can see all steps of lightning. First the stepped leader (clound-t-ground), second the upward leader (from tower), third the attachment between these two leaders, 4th the RETURN STROKE (the main stroke of a discharge) and after, the subsequent strokes.

Here’s the video review of the $999.99 I Am Rich application for iPhone 3G.  Apparently, about 10 people have bought this bogus Apple app and it’s no longer available because it does suck so much.  (Doesn’t really qualify as a real app really)

I do admit to having to acquire great skills of pen spinning due to the outrageous number of exams when I was in college but here’s couple of students who have obviously been working on the most important part of their college career.

PC with Lego Case!

Wow, who would’ve thought you could make a Lego PC?

Most things worked out amazingly well, like the ATX power switches fitting perfectly snug in the space of a 1×1 brick, and the LEDs fitting perfectly in a 1×1 brick with hole. I hot glued a 1×1 brick to the power and reset switches to act as buttons. I also put a dab of hot glue on each corner of the ATX I/O plate, which was just a little too small to fit snugly.

I also realized that I underestimated the cohesive strength of Lego bricks. When I first put the top on, I couldn’t get it off! I had to add a nearly complete border of flat plates from my spare parts to get it to detach easily.

NES Duck Hunt Lamp!

With NES popularity soaring with weird stuff that people come up with, here’s another cool NES Duck Hunt Lamp, complete with a customized hunting dog lamp cover, NES infrared gun, and the original Duck Hunt NES cartridge.

So one day I picked up an NES Zapper (gun) and went “woah, that would make a cool lamp!” So… after playing around…

Special Coating makes your Gadgets and Cellphones Waterproof!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Gadgets, Industrial, Video, cell phones, technology by max on the August 8th, 2008 at 11:20 am

Special Coating makes your Gadgets and Cellphones Waterproof!

WOw, here’s some new coating technology that’s going to be available soon to protect all your gadgets from water.

Of course, most of the time, your gadget will do fine even after water-submersion, but this coat pretty much makes your gadget water-resistant for hours!

I am not going to explain it, it’s probably better if you watched the video here.

Golden Shellback coating has an excellent ability to repel oils, synthetic fluids, hazardous materials, dust, dirt and water based solutions. Low surface tension values, such as water and oils will bead and drain freely from coated surfaces. The process produces a uniform, continuous, near hermetic coating that resists rain and humidity. Electronics casually exposed to water continue to work even after exposure. The coating is readily applied and not generally considered to be removable. Repairs are made using abrasive methods.

DRS-1100 is a Black box for your car!

DRS-1100 is a Black box for your car!

(Video of DRS-1100 recordings)

Check out this DRS-1100 Driver recording system for your car.  Basically, it’s a black box for your car to record your driving in case of accidents and insurance disputes.

I personally do think this is a great idea to protect against any kind of prejudice by cops or even for solid evidence if your car gets hit.

I can recall countless times where other people crash into my car, yet I cannot prove it in words or pictures.  This will definitely help insurance companies better at finding out who caused the accident.

Having a Vehicle-Mounted, Incident Recording System like the DRS-1100, installed in your car, would provide investigators with a highly accurate record of the events surrounding an accident. Investigators would be able to actually see, frame by frame, the events leading up to and including the actual collision or mishap, and in most cases even the moments following the actual impact. This type of collective data would contribute a much more accurate and scientific analysis of the events surrounding an accident. This is no longer science fiction. You can own a Driver recording System today.
