Unbreakable Super Strong Umbrella!

The unbreakable super umbrella can help you protect yourself against thieves and also might save you where a strong pole thingee is needed.

I wonder how the umbrella itself holds up against the wind, maybe it could be great for golf too.

Binaural Recording Microphone Has 2 Ears for Stereo Recording!

Posted in Audio, Consumer, Cool, Design, Digital Cameras, Gadgets, Video by max on the June 15th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

Binaural Recording Mic

Well, I don’t know if the human ear shape actually helps recording but the Binaural Recording Microphone does look kinda gloomy and cool. At $3,899, we suggest you get this if you have lots of money to burn.

The Binaural Mic from Otokinoko (maker of the Dayon Sound Communicator) is a simple way to record the most realistic sounds possible. Binaural recording allows you to record sounds the same way they are heard in real life by placing the two microphones in the same position as human ears. The resulting playback in omnidirectional 3D sound is more realistic than normal stereo because of the subtle shifts in feeling.

World’s Strongest Man Made Tornado Rules!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Educational, Entertainment, Video, World records, science by max on the June 14th, 2008 at 3:38 pm

Watch the vid and see the world’s strongest man made tornade in action!

This must be great way for scientists to discover ways to stop tornados too.

You may have seen this man-made wonder before, but Guinness World Records has now proclaimed it to be the world’s “strongest artificially generated tornado”. At 34.43-meters high, it uses over 140 separate jets to inject 28-tons of air into the courtyard, generating an artificial tornado. It’s not just for show, this also serves to eliminate smoke in the event of a fire according to the museum’s manager.

Here’s an interesting DIY light bar controller that might interest your weekend hacking desires.

This device analyses the music it picks up via the electret microphone, then flashes the LEDs in time to the music. It’s encased in the box SparkFun sent me the microphones in, since the box was just begging to be used as a case for something! I’m sure that was intentionally designed.

Intel\'s new intelligent Hand Robot!

Now here’s an intelligent robot that won’t crush your hand as it detects before grabbing stuff.

A robotic hand designed by Intel researchers is able to sense the general shape of objects before interacting with them.

The tips of its fingers send out a weak electrical impulse that objects interfere with, giving the hand a rough idea of what it’s about to grasp. Using electrolocation, as it’s known, is common in fish, particularly sharks, which detect electric fields better than any other animal.

These giant mechanical spiders would go great with future movies.

The Walking Beast is a mechanical creature that walks on 8 legs!

I call it the Beast because of it’s size. Its current weight is 11,300 Lbs. When finished it will be approximately 6 tons (12,000 lbs)! It stands 11 feet tall, 8′ 4″ wide and 23 feet long! It is capable of transporting 8 people including the driver. It has a step height of 41″ and a stride of 5 feet!
