Steampunk iPod covers

Posted in Audio, Steampunk, USB, mp3 by david on the November 15th, 2007 at 10:00 am

This takes you back to when the iPod was just figment of Apples little eye, this steampunk version dates back to the nineteenth century, which must have been when they were designed.

steampunk ipod

But on a more serious not, these are actually covers, these give an inside look into what an old and ancient iPod would have looked like, but the music may have been a slight probe, back then!

Prices are from $14.95

This little retro webcam is really cool, it looks like one of those cameras that they used to use in the 1950’s and 1960’s or one of those trick ones that when you press the button it squirts water all over the person in front.

Check out your computers performance

Posted in Circuits, Computer, Consumer, Cool, Funny, Gadgets, Household, USB by david on the November 6th, 2007 at 2:00 pm

This is a great device, especially if you love computers and cars as this will give you the feel of driving a high performance sports car, will being at work, sounds good to me.

performance gauge

Yet it may not be as spectacular as you would initially feel, the device gives you a read out of the computers wattage, temperature and fan speed, but not all at once, there are three buttons that enable you to switch the display to whatever reading you decide to choose.

Of course devices like this can make you paranoid as you may spend more time watch the metre than the screen, it would be great if it could be hacked and then make the dials touch the danger levels!

The USB Lighter

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Funny, Gadgets, USB by david on the November 4th, 2007 at 2:00 pm

Strange as it may seem this “Zippo” shaped lighter is charged up via the computers usb port. It’s a flameless lighter so there is no danger of setting things alight, or maybe there is I wouldn’t like to try.

usb lighter

The part where the flame or heat comes out, can be pushed in and then out of the bottom the usb connector pops out and therefore can then be placed into the port for charging.

This is an interesting concept for a lighter as it does not use flints, gas or fluid, but rather relies on a resistance coil which generates the heat. All they need to make now is an usb cigarette making machine!

A classic vacuum

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Funny, Gadgets, USB by david on the November 4th, 2007 at 10:00 am

This is cross between the demand for retro items and the demand for USB driven devices. These two have been very carefully put together and the finished article looks quite impressive and by the looks of the image actually does pick some bits up off the desk.

A classic vacuum

This would come in very handy when your eating biscuits over the keyboard and all of the crumbs fall down in between the keys, if it can pick those up then it is going to be a really a great device, but I fear that it will not be powerful enough to suck the crumbs up out of the small gap.

This is priced at $19.99

The keyboard of the future

Posted in Computer, Cool, Funny, LED, USB by david on the November 4th, 2007 at 8:00 am

Is this what key board will look like in the future or if some time travelling alien crash lands in the car park of the Saitek who have had to foresight to produce this “Cyborg Keyboard” and put in on the market?

cyborg keyboard

Some people have compared it to the knight rider, yet although there may be a slight similarity with KITT’s dash, there is nothing to state that it is that what they are trying to achieve here.

What you get is Independently backlit WASD, cursor, plenty of lights, and NumPad keys to highlight commonly used gaming controls (these keys are also metal plated), 12 macro keys, USB socket, audio and microphone sockets.

The Cyborg keyboard is priced at $80 while to mouse is priced at $60.

This device can be used with any computer including laptops; it plugs into the USB port and attaches to the finger with a ring like attachment.

From that position the controls are operated by the thumb, which is probably going to take a bit of getting used to, but once mastered it could be very easy and accurate to use. However there may be a bit of finger wobble if it does not fit to good, i.e. either too big or too small.
