If only we could see Wi-Fi

wifi1

Imagine a world where you could actually see wireless signals, it would be so much easier to log into a network, as you would be able to see the strongest point is. However just to make the point that Wi-Fi is all around us, three designers from Scandinavia had the idea to visualise just what these Wi-Fi signals would look like in the real world.

To show just how cool this would be, Timo Arnall, Jørn Knutsen

Verizon Launching 4G LTE at CTIA!

So, today will be a big day for Verizon, who will be launching 4G LTE right here at CTIA around 11:30AM.  From what we know so far, Verizon will probably launch 4G LTE in 30 cities by end of 2010 and hopefully nationwide by late next year.

I had the pleasure of attending Verizon’s private party last night (thanks again to folks at Verizon and great hospitality by Don at B Bars and Restaurant in SF) and actually got to talk to an insider at CDMA development group, who manages the standards of CDMA technology and 3G.

I won’t mention his name but the guy ad CDMA deve

4G WiMax Available now in Virginia, Utah, and Missouri!

For those of you in the state of Virginia, Utah, or MIssouri, today marks the day 4G WiMax is available so you should be very happy.

On the side note, I have been getting 4G off and on here in SF Bay Area. When I do get 4G, it’s REALLY fast, getting around 4-5Mbps download and 1-2Mbps upload.

iPhone Killer is Here – HTC Evo!

Sprint, HTC, and Google has teamed up to bring you the “ultimate” iPhone Killer.  I have written a post when Palm Pre came out that it was an iPhone Killer but let me correct that, HTC Evo is the new iPhone Killer!

Probably, we have not seen a better smartphone in our lifetime.  While Apple is stuck with an outdated AT&T network for another decade, HTC will be bypassing with lightening speeds on Sprint’s 4G WiMax network while Google keeps improvi

Clearwire 4G WiMax Hack – How to Get Better 4G Signals using Tinfoil!

For those of you lucky enough to get ClearWire’s 4G internet service, you might still have trouble getting full signal if you happened to live in suburban neighborhoods.

But I guess there’s a pretty cheap fix for that, you can actually increase your signal a LOT by using a tinfoil and making an antenna sorta like above.   I used to use this method actually for my wifi router couple years back, I think it works for 4G modems probably because they are wireless.  Cool.

Lo and behold, as soon as I put that tinfoil dish behind our modem, the signal jumped

WiMax Speed Test in Las Vegas!

wimax-speed-test

Probably the most exciting technology of this year will be WiMax rolling out in the U.S.  Many cities in the U.S. already have launched WiMax in full service including Las Vegas.  At CES 2010, I got to test WiMax hands-on at the Motorola booth, using one of their latest 4G WiMax USB dongles.

In the simple test, I was able to get a 2Mbps download and 3.36Mbps upload.  This might not seem like very fast but at CES 2010, broadband speeds and even wired internet was simply horrible because people all over the world (who use a lot of internet) came to CES
