The following information is presented so more people are aware of what kind of hacks hackers can use to hack your computer. For reference, not for hacking another’s computer!

This hack uses a .bat file to change your Windows password, open some malware site on Internet Explorer, and then shuts the computer down. Now, this isn’t going to work that well unless the innocent user actually receives the file through e-mail and “accidently” opens it.

But it is interesting to know what hackers are using, this one probably one of the most basic.

I’ve seen some really crazy hacks but this hack, you can most likely prevent it from taking over your computer if you use a firewall. By the way, Windows firewall may work but I highly advise to use something 3rd party because hackers can hacks Windows system programs including the firewall itself.

The .bat batch file:

The hacker site also warns not to open MeatSpin.com, it’s a malware site I guess.

Again, this is good to know. If you are into computer security, I am sure this is something you know already but maybe good for newbies who are just learning about preventing hackers from attacking their computers.

On the side note, you could probably install this on your friend’s computer as a prank, that’d be sorta funny.

One of the main reasons I don’t use Windows Vista or even Windows 7 is because they simply suck. I know that people have been telling me that Windows 7 is actually quite better but the latest SMB hack proves that they are all still vulnerable as with any other Windows products. I don’t blame Bill Gates though, he’s already filthy rich making Windows vulnerable but still, he did make PCs ever more popular than Apple ever was/will be. I still remember rooting for DOS and Windows when they were the small guys. Well, I’ve moved on though, no more proprietary Apple and no more crappy Windows, I have already started running Ubuntu, Fedora, and other linux operating systems on most of my machines.

This method attacks via the NEGOTIATE PROTOCOL REQUEST which is the first SMB query sent. The vulnerability is present only on Windows versions that include Server Message Block 2.0 and have the protocol enabled. A successful attack requires no local access to the machine and results in a Blue Screen of Death.

Wordpress DIY – How To Check For Spam Links After Being Attacked by Hackers!

About a month ago, some of my blogs got hacked BAD, they were FILLED with porn spam links. Of course, it took me awhile to realize that it was actually a Wordpress security hole. I complained to Wordpress people via Twitter but they told me Wordpress was secure.

Anyway, today I heard that Wordpress announced that Wordpress has security holes, meaning if you don’t use the latest versions, you are susceptible to worms that will take over your admin privileges and possibly do nasty things like put spam links all over your older blog posts.

I actually did a complete analysis on how hackers were doing it and indeed it’s all “automated” and they try to fill your older blog posts with spam links so they will go unnoticed if unless you check your last year’s blog posts.

You will need this simple code to see if they have injected any hidden spam links in your blog posts, just in case your blog got hacked.

Hackers will use “display:none” to “hide” their links from the browser so here’s the code you can download and save as “check.php”.

Change the DB name and password to yours. Then run it by opening the browser and pointing to check.php file or better, you can run it from linux command line if you are on dedicated servers like me.

The code here will simply to find any “display:none” and count how many there are. If you find zero, you should be okay but if you find like more than 10, you might want to dig into your database.

I also have the code for automatically getting rid of these spam links. One of my blogs had like 3,000 spam links so… If you want it, I will post it, just leave a comment.

Firefox Hack – How to Recover Firefox Master Password!

For some reason you lost your master password to Firefox? Do not worry as there’s a new tool called Firemaster that will recover your Firefox master password through brute-force hacks. Really, though, you can also simply erase all your personal preferences by “uninstalling” your Firefox and re-installing it.

Firemaster really is for those who need to hack another’s computer…

Once you have lost master password, there is no way to recover it as it is not stored at all. Whenever user enters the master password, Firefox uses it to decrypt the encrypted data associated with the known string. If the decrypted data matches this known string then the entered password is correct. FireMaster uses the similar technique to check for the master password, but in more optimized way. The entire operation goes like this.

* FireMaster generates passwords on the fly through various methods.
* Then it computes the hash of the password using known algorithm.
* Next this password hash is used to decrypt the encrypted data for known plain text (i.e. “password-check”).
* Now if the decrypted string matches with the known plain text (i.e. “password-check”) then the generated password is the master password.

Firefox stores the details about encrypted string, salt, algorithm and version information in key database file key3.db in the user’s profile directory. You can just copy this key3.db file to different directory and specify the corresponding path to FireMaster. You can also copy this key3.db to any other high end machine for faster recovery operation.

For those of you wireless tinkers who need the best in wifi security, ComputerWorld has a great guide on how to set up WPA2 network. I think this is a great way to “secure” your wifi network, especially since it’s already been proven even WPA can be cracked easily. – link

Step 1: Windows OS: First make sure your operating system is up to date. If you are running Windows XP, you’ll need service pack 2 and you’ll need to download the WPA2 patch that’s located here.

If you’re using a Mac, you need to be running OS X 10.4.2 or better. Apple calls its version WPA2 Personal. While Linux is outside the scope of this article, you can get more information here.

Step 2: Wireless Adapter: While you are updating your Windows OS, you might want to make sure that the wireless adapter in your laptop is also up to the task of supporting WPA2. The Wi-Fi Alliance maintains an online database of products that is somewhat difficult to use. Go to their Web site, check the WPA2 box and then select which vendor you are interested in.

If you have a built-in Intel wireless adapter, it needs to be running Intel’s ProSet version 7.1.4 or better, excluding versions 8.x. You can get more information on this page on Intel’s Web site.

Step 3: Wireless access point/router: Next, make sure your router/gateway can support WPA2. If you have purchased it in the last year, chances are good that it does, but you might need to update your firmware as well. For the Belkin Pre-N router model 2000, I needed to update the firmware to version 2.01. An older model 1000 didn’t support WPA2 and couldn’t be upgraded. How can you tell the difference when you are buying one? You can’t, other than opening the box and looking at the label on the bottom of the unit.

If you are a linux user like me, you know the value of being able to password-protect your GRUB entries so even if your whole PC gets stolen, no one should be able to access your valuable, classified data. (or porn?)

When talking of security in computer systems one often needs to analyse the situation one is in and choose the appropriate options. If you have hackers getting physical access to your computer system the GRUB security measures won’t last a second (pretty much nothing would do). Your best bet in such a situation is to keep the hard drive encrypted, or if your hard drive can be password protected, use that option.

However, the majority of us don’t have to worry about hackers with physical access as much as our not-so-computer savvy relatives and friends fiddling around with the system. Here’s a little Ubuntu hack that might help you VPN on a Ubuntu 8.10:

I started off by clicking on the network icon on the top-right of the menu bar and then Configure VPN (under VPN Connections). The VPN tab had the Add button disabled so I went to the command prompt (Application, Accessories, Terminal) and typed the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install network-manager-pptp

I then entered my password (for the sudo), after which it downloads and installs PPTP support. To make sure Add button under VPN is now enabled, I also type the command:
sudo NetworkManager restart

Now, I simply click the network icon (from the top-right of the menu bar), click Configure VPN (under VPN Connections), I click the Add button, type in the IP address of the VPN server for the Gateway, my ActiveDirectory (from the Windows domain) username and password, followed by the domain name. I click the Advanced button and check the “Use Point-to-Point encryption (MPPE)” checkbox and click Ok on both dialog boxes.

To connect to the VPN, I click the network icon and under VPN Connections, I select the VPN connection that I just created.

Obama’s new ride may be one of the better-equipped White House has ever made.

In short, it features basically armor-grade parts that will pretty much protect the car even if you bazookaed it or shot machine guns at it.

What I like most about it are the in-car Wifi and Satellite phone, something I would find very useful if I had my own chauffeur.

The only thing that sucks about it is the fact that its top speed is 60mph(must be an error) and the 15 second from 0 to 60mph. (If I were the President, I’d make sure the vehicles goes at least 150mph and under 7 seconds from 0 to 60mph.

Well, I am pretty sure this isn’t everything that’s on the car, they must have at least put some missiles that can shoot at the behind and automated machine guns that pop out from the roof. I hope we don’t have to find out.

Well, I have been busy yesterday and today with bunch of clients working on various different projects.

Anyways, here’s a great DIY on how to make your own keyless entry system using Arduino and servos.

Of course, the best part about the keyless entry system is that it uses “binary” code in which the user must “thumb”, similar to Morse code system.

According to the person who made it, this system is actually a lot more secure than numbers:

From personal experience (mostly my roommate has absolutely no rhythm), the pattern key could probably contain about 6 different lengths. Thus a key with length n will have 6^n possible combinations. To make the system more secure, there is no indication that an input is wrong; an attacker has no idea how long the key is.

Great DIY, this might be a great new way for Keyless Door Entry makers to implement, a binary key.

iPhone Hack – How to Sync an iPhone/iPod with 2 or more Computers!

As a U.S. consumer of goods, I’ve always been very peeved at the fact that my iPod or iPhones in general cannot sync with multiple computers. How come all of my generic MP3 players can sync with multiple PCs while my iPod simply sucks at doing that?

I know, I know, Steve Jobs is evil and he implements anything to make money but what the heck, I have 3 desktop computers and 3 laptops!

Well, don’t fuss about it as there’s a solution for this using some simple HEX hacks.

It’s time that someone thought of this, they should really implement this on iTunes, although they’d probably make less money. I just think this stupid “feature” of not being able to sync on multiple computers is really, really, really idiotic and only serves purpose to make Apple richer while consumers suffer the consequences of deleting every music on their iPod whenever they moved to a new PC.

Without any further delay, here’s how to do it. (and screw you Steve Jobs, but the new MacBooks are cool though. :p )

On the machine your iPhone currently syncs with, open “iTunes Music Library.xml” with a text editor and find the entry between the tags, after “Library Persistent ID”. In the example below this is 8B6C633F7DACB74B. Copy this entry exactly to a piece of paper, email, temporary file etc. You can then close this file.

iTunes stores your library information in two places. An XML file and a binary file. You now need to change the ID in both so they match your other library.

Make sure iTunes is not running.

On the machine you want to sync with open “iTunes Music Library.xml” in a text editor. Again, find the entry between the tags after “Library Persistent ID” and copy this entry exactly. This time you can use the clipboard if you wish.

When you have a copy, replace this entry with the one you copied in part 1. Make sure you do not change anything else, and the length of the entry is 16 characters/digits. Save this file and close it.

In the Hex Editor, open “iTunes Music Library” (Tunes Music Library.itl on PC).

Select “Find and Replace” from the Edit menu. Make sure “Hex” matching is selected (not ASCII). In “Find” enter the ID you took a note of in Part 1. In Replace, enter the ID you copied at the start of Part 2. Choose Replace All, there should be one match.

Save this file and close it.

Start iTunes on the machine you wish to sync with and plug in your iPhone. When you select “Manually manage music and videos” you will no longer be prompted to erase your data, nor will the files on your iPhone be grayed out.

Here’s a cool hack I found on Yahoo News, it’s a hack that lets you watch free Amazon videos using the security hole:

(I don’t think this will last too long once Amazon finds out so we suggest you to take advantage before they close the security hole)

The free demo version of Replay Media Catcher allows anyone to watch 75 percent of anything recorded and 100 percent of YouTube videos. For $39, a user can watch everything recorded.

One Web site — www.tvadfree.com — explains step-by-step how to use the video stream catching software.

Amazon.com’s Adobe-powered Video On Demand service allows viewers to watch the first two minutes of a movie or TV show for free. It charges up to $3.99 to rent a movie for 24 hours and up to $14.99 to download a movie permanently.

Amazon starts to stream the entire movie during the free preview — even though it pauses the video on the Web browser after the first two minutes — so that users can start watching the rest of the video right away once they pay.

“It’s the traditional trade-off, convenience on the one hand and security on the other,” said Ray Valdes, analyst at research group Gartner.

However, even if a user doesn’t pay, the stream still sends the movie to the video catching software, but not the browser.

Check out this DRS-1100 Driver recording system for your car. Basically, it’s a black box for your car to record your driving in case of accidents and insurance disputes.

I personally do think this is a great idea to protect against any kind of prejudice by cops or even for solid evidence if your car gets hit.

I can recall countless times where other people crash into my car, yet I cannot prove it in words or pictures. This will definitely help insurance companies better at finding out who caused the accident.

Having a Vehicle-Mounted, Incident Recording System like the DRS-1100, installed in your car, would provide investigators with a highly accurate record of the events surrounding an accident. The Yankee Stadium security team has recently found sunscreen to be a dangerous lethal weapon. They are banning all sunscreens from entering the Yankee Stadium.

That’s right folks, make sure to put your sunscreen on your skin before entering the stadium. If you happen to forget, just be ready for cancer-causing UV rays to enter straight into your pores for 3-4 hours.

Some people have retaliated by suing the city of New York as this new screening process puts most of their dumb citizens (who forget to put sunscreen on beforehand) under risk of skin cancer.

(Nothing is really true in this paragraph, I made some up…)

I think they should really make sure to hire smarter people next time for Stadium security. Heck, you might as well bann anything liquid at this point, I don’t see how people would bring in C4s packed in sunscreen bottles.

At Yankee Stadium, the security guards confiscating sunscreen. “Five hours in the upper deck with no sunscreen is crazy,” said one upper deck seasons ticket holder. Fans in the bleachers point out in the New York Post that the sun may be a bigger threat than Osama Bin Laden.

This faceplate is made using the original Delco radio/cassette tape player that came with the truck, some Velcro, and a lot of epoxy glue. I left half of a cassette sticking out of the tape player for added effect.

Here’s an interesting video on future hovering spy drones. Well, my hopes are there are no wars in the future and that these future hovering spy drones will only serve to prevent wars. Where are my tax dollars damn Uncle Sam?

This video shows, which is a lot of fun to watch, shows STARMAC, the Stanford Testbed of Autonomous Rotorcraft for Multi-Agent, described as “a testbed of 6 quadrotor helicopter unmanned aerial vehicles that fly indoors and outdoors to experiment with autonomous agent algorithms.”

Schlage announces their new web-enabled door locks which can be controlled/monitored through the web and your cellphone.

Schlage is adding an automated twist to its well-known door locks: a wireless, Internet-enabled product that can be locked, unlocked and monitored via PC, cell phone, or any other device with a Web browser.

The product is based on Schlage’s line of keypad locks, “which outsold all competitive locks within the first year of being officially launched,” according to Dwight Gibson, general manager, Intelligent Residential Security, for Ingersoll Rand, the parent company of Schlage.

Here’s a really interesting face scanner security for your PC. I don’t know how their secure the software is but the face recognition technology looks pretty valid.

XID Technologies has recently made a new option available for protecting your own computer: a biometric PC access application called Face LogOn Xpress. In plain English, that’s a face scan. Now, instead of limiting your PC security to a password (or a fingerprint scan, for some devices), you can install a program that scans your face in order to provide security clearance for logging on to your computer. This can be used for home or work computers.
