Robotic Dog Fetches the Ball!

Remember the Automatic Ball Throwing Machine for your dog? Well, get one of these Robotic Dogs and you will have a complete dog throwing/fetching automation. Why not?
This robot uses an Acroname CMUcam2+ for its eye and an Acroname BrainStem GP 2.0 microcontroller for its brain. It chases down a bright pink ball (which I made with a styrofoam ball and neon pink acrylic paint), grabs it with its dual-servo pincher, and brinks it back to its home base by homing in on another bright pink target (conveniently mounted over the iSight camera on my Mac).

This actually reminds me of Korea, where sometimes there are “fake” beggars on the street who have no legs but in reality they can jump up and run after people who steal those fake beggars’ money.

Here’s an interesting video on future hovering spy drones. Well, my hopes are there are no wars in the future and that these future hovering spy drones will only serve to prevent wars. Where are my tax dollars damn Uncle Sam?
This video shows, which is a lot of fun to watch, shows STARMAC, the Stanford Testbed of Autonomous Rotorcraft for Multi-Agent, described as “a testbed of 6 quadrotor helicopter unmanned aerial vehicles that fly indoors and outdoors to experiment with autonomous agent algorithms.”

22-Foot Tall Giant Robot made out of Styrofoam!

Yes, perhaps making robot sculptures out of styrofoam may have some merits such as in 3D-movie making but you do get to pass a lot of time in a hurry.
Michael Salter is something of a pack rat. Instead of letting all that clutter go to waste as some might, however, he puts it to good use — or into making robot sculptures.
You may remember these adorable Styrobots from a little while ago. His new creation is a little bigger; it stands over 22 feet high and needs a wooden, skeletal armature to keep it standing as well as moving vans to transport it. The smaller Styrobots at its feet keep people from getting too close and accidentally knocking it over.

Amphibious Snake Robot!

Here’s a cool lookin’ amphibious snake robot that can swim in the water. It looks scary the potentials of what (harmful stuff) this robot can possibly do.
ACM-R5 is equipped with paddles and passive wheels around the body. To generate propulsive force by undulation, the robot need a resistance property as it glides freely in tangential direction but cannot in normal direction. Due to the paddles and passive wheels, ACM-R5 obtains that character both in water and on ground.

Here’s a funky robot that dances to the music from Japan. You can even hook up your iPod to enjoy your music on the robot.
It’s a robot for pure recreation, I am not sure how it’d sell in the U.S. market yet.
The two-wheeled, dancing A.M.P. (Automated Music Personality or Ampbot) from Sega-Hasbro stands 2.4-feet tall and features a MP3 or iPod cradle on its back, stereo speakers, and the ability to follow and interact with its owner. There’s a 5-inch mid-range speaker in the chest and a pair of smaller tweeters in the shoulders for a total output of 12 watts. Osamu Takeuchi of Sega Toys says, “The owner can also enjoy being chased around the house by the robot.
