Palm Pre has been literally “awesome” in the last couple days that I’ve had it.

I love this new touchscreen phone so much that I even registered a domain name for it called PalmPre-Hacks.com on the night I bought the Palm Pre.

Well, it turns out that my $199 investment on the Palm Pre has paid off already as I have figured out how to make it into a wireless router already.

It wasn’t easy because a lot of the instructions were not easy to find but I did find a good Palm Pre app called My Tether that can turn your phone into a WiFi router. (Yes, you can connect your laptop, iPod, or any other wireless device simultaneously!)

The greatest part about the Palm Pre is that it’s linux-based, it’s a linux computer in essence. There’s literally millions of linux experts out there who are developing apps with ease and I think there’s way more potential for the Palm Pre down the road.

Okay, call me crazy but it’s a Sunday and 4AM right now, I am just so excited that I got my Palm Pre to be a WiFi router!!!

Being too excited, I decided to launch the PalmPre-Hacks.com blog early as possible so the very first blog post is a detailed step-by-step guide to making your Palm Pre into a WiFi router.

I have never been a fan of bluetooth headsets (yet) due to the undiscovered side effects (that most consumers don’t know about) but if you must, I highly suggest reading up on how to make a Steampunk bluetooth headset.

Last halloween I dressed up in an old fashioned manor with my cell phone in a pocket keychain. The chain was too short for the phone to reach my ear. This left me with the option of un-hook the phone every time I had to use it, make a unreasonable long chain or; mod a bluetooth headset to match the outfit

Here’s some fun news about a car key that can jam all cellphone signals while your car ignition is on. This would be great for beginners and teenagers who haven’t mastered the art of driving.

Of course, it’d be a lot of fun if you could simply use this jammer to jam every cellphone call whereever you go such as the library or bookstore when you don’t want to be bothered with extra sounds.

Dec. 11, 2008 – University of Utah researchers have developed an automobile ignition key that prevents teenagers from talking on cell phones or sending text messages while driving.

The university has obtained provisional patents and licensed the invention – Key2SafeDriving – to a private company that hopes to see it on the market within six months at a cost of less than $50 per key plus a yet-undetermined monthly service fee.

“The key to safe driving is to avoid distraction,” says Xuesong Zhou, an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering who co-invented the system with Wally Curry, a University of Utah graduate now practicing medicine in Hays, Kan. “We want to provide a simple, cost-effective solution to improve driving safety.”

Wii Hack – How to Connect Wiimote via Bluetooth!

Here’s a cool article explaining the inner works behind the Wiimote. Of course, there’s a bunch of Wii hacks but this one really goes into depth with topics like USB HID.

Most people don’t know that the Wiimote communicates with the Wii via a Bluetooth wireless link. The Bluetooth controller is a Broadcom 2042 chip, which is designed to be used with devices which follow the Bluetooth Human Interface Device (HID) standard, such as keyboards and mice. The Bluetooth HID is directly based upon the USB HID standard, and much of the same documentation applies. The Wiimote is capable of transmitting huge amounts of data to the Wii (Nintendo just isn’t utilizing it’s capabilities thus far). But using the internal Bluetooth wireless link, you can connect your Wiimote to your PC (any OS), and use it with a wide range of applications already made for the Wiimote.

Eee PC Hack – How to Hack your Internal Devices on an ASUS Eee PC!

Here’s a great wiki site showing you good information on how to hack the ASUS Eee PC including how to add a GPS unit without breaking your arm off.

There are several points on the motherboard where power can be draw, for devices requiring 3.3v or 5v. Ground is universal and allows for short wire runs. A diagram over the points can be found on the research page.

The signal wires thickness is 30 AWG and 24 AWG for the power and ground wires. The wire type is called wire wrap and used for prototyping and repair work. Mine is Tefzel insulated and made by Habia Cable. Some of the devices are held in place by double-sided 1 mm thick foam tape. To cover up and prevent shorts I used 3M Kapton 10 mm wide tape.

Here’s a funny throwing camera that will capture pictures at set intervals on its way down. This seems like an excellent way to capture some random images from slightly above ground level.

The Flee Digital Camera is designed specifically to take photos after you’ve launched it into the air. The casing for the camera actually looks like it was inspired by some of the fancier balls made for playing fetch with your dog.

The Flee is bluetooth enabled and will transmit the photos it takes directly to your cellphone. No word on the size and quality of the pictures or on what the usable range away from the cellphone is.

Wow, this is awesome! This guy is serious about recycling. The hard disks are connected to his MIDI system and are all coordinated to play drums. Well watch the video after the jump to see it in action!

Fibra from Belgrade has created an interesting drum system. It uses old hard drive read/write arms as drum hammers. The original hard drive voice coils are used to move the arms. The picture above is the new system which doesn’t seem to be documented yet, have a look at the video for a demonstration of the first version. Here’s a good instructable on how to build a cheap bluetooth audio for your GPS. If your GPS doesn’t already support bluetooth (I believe most don’t), this is a great cheap way to get all those audible directions into just the driver’s ears, not everyone in the car.

I needed a way to hear my cheap a$$ GPS under the helmet on my motorcycle and didn’t wanna fork over 2x the price for a “motorcycle ready” GPS device so I made it myself.
This may be interesting to bikers a well!

It is made up of optic fibre system placed between two pieces of glass.

We all know that software is used to track users and what they do, and therefore why should Apple be any different, well it simple really there are a lot people around the world who think that Steve Jobs is god and Apple is his religion of which they all follow.

This is why spying leave all of these folks with a bad taste in their mouths. So how does this work? When you use the iPhone and press the weather application, data is sent along to a web address at Apple and some details too, like the IMEI number etc, this can track where you are and what you are doing at the time.

This could also be used by Apple to find all of those unlocked phones, but users should check out their agreement if they don’t this and see if there is anything on there that will stop this from going on!

Well if you take notice of what Verizon dealers are saying, then it would appear that it may be good enough to give the Apple iPhone a run for its money.

But as with any device, it is only as good as what it does, how much it costs and how it will fit into your lifestyle. By the looks of it the hype has started early and as normal I expect that we will be seeing a lot more of this in the next few months and then there is the Google Phone coming out next year too, so many choices!

This is the Sony Ericsson concept phone, this will have a USB port which is going to be very handy and will probably begin to see this feature in other phones.

The design has a large screen and a nice bit of stainless steel added to the buttons.

There is not much word on price and availability but one thing is for sure they need to get a move on, because there will definitely be similar ideas on other brands.

Well this is a great idea to stop everyone else from overhearing those annoying people who sit next to you on the train and constantly talk loudly on the phone as if everyone is really going to be interested in what they have to say.

This could also be protection from the bluetooth invaders of privacy, unfortunately it does involve having to walk around with this contraption on your shoulders, but everything has a price tag. This is the work of the Boston artist Nick Rodrigues.
