I have no idea why Apple wants to have such a tight grip on their products, even controlling down to the processors you can use on their operating systems. A lot of people have been using Apple operating systems on x86 and non-Apple CPUs, which I see a big market for Apple. Well, I hope they realize their lesson someday, one of the main reasons Apple went sour in the 90s is because Apple had a tight grip on the software industry. I remember I bought a PC simply because there were so many more options such as different hardware/software, you name it.

Well, I still haven’t bought an Apple in my whole lifetime, guess that “adds” to their growing empire. :p

There are more than a few folk out there who believe that by releasing the new non Atom compatible updates, Apple is attempting to kill off the Hackintosh Netbook community.

This could well be something they might be keen to do, especially if the rumoured soon to make an appearance Apple Tablet is on its way.

Of course this is all speculation but the advice from StellaRolla, according to a report in Wired, is that if you have a Hackintosh don’t try and download the updates or your Hackintosh will break, at the moment anyway.

Well, I am one of those people who will literally take all the candy from the mall stores on Halloween. This year, Apple Store (ran out of candy I though) gave me an Apple bookmark. I actually confirmed that it wasn’t just me, I guess they were doing this all over the States. I think it’s a good bookmark, perhaps they were also (*evil*) trying to promote their Nano iPods. Well, I am not complaining, I didn’t have to treat them this year.

P.S. Yes, they try every opportunity to turn it into opportunity for themselves, well, greed will eventually kill ya though.

Wanna be a GIANT iPhone for this Halloweens and also have functional 42-inch iPhone screen? These crazy Apple fanboys have just done that, sticking a 42-inch HD TV onto their iPhone costumes which relay display from their iPhones. All I can say is, WOW.

This all started two years ago Reko Rivera and Bobby Hartman created a wearable large iPhone costume with a real 37″ lcd tv. An iPod was attached with a looping video of a real iphones screen in normal use. This time with the help of John Savio and John Matthews the team created yet another amazing rendition of the new iPhone 3GS. Savio loved the original idea but wanted to take it to the next level and make it thinner and actually work with user imput! With some heavy researching and some solid determination Savio finally found a solution. He managed to modify the software on the iPhone to allow a live dual image output to the large 42″ lcd tv while maintaining the image in landscape mode. Reko originally came up with the idea and really pushed to see his vision come to life two years ago. This year John and Reko plan to compete in most of the local and online contest to win back all the money they invested in the costumes. Mac DIY – How to Install Ubuntu Linux on your Mac!

Tuaw has a great tutorial on how to install Ubuntu Linux on your Mac machine. This uses Sun’s VirtualBox, which essentially lets you install any kind of operating system. This is a great way to have another operating system under your main machine. Of course, this isn’t a real install since it’s virtual but it still is a great way to have another operating system on your Mac without re-installing your main OS.

You can also use this on PCs in a similar way and works just as well FYI.

Why would you want to run Linux on a Mac? There are probably a few good reasons — learning about a different OS, using software that’s not available on the Mac platform, or for a Linux class in school. While you can create a bootable partition on your Mac and boot Linux from it, I prefer to do things the lazy way. In this short how-to post, I’ll demonstrate how I installed Ubuntu Linux 9.04, also known as “Jaunty Jackalope.”

MacBook THIEVES – Apple Store Heist in New Jersey!

Wow, take a look at this video of these 5 “professional” burglars who stole 23 MacBook Pros in just 31 seconds! That is impressive regardless of what they did. These thieves must have done speed lap training beforehand.

Now, I am not saying you should ever steal anything but if you are going to be a burglar, you gotta be as fast as these guys and be smart. (I feel like I am watching a mini-version of ocean’s eleven…)

I’ve seen so many dumb criminals on COPS, it’s a relief that the media finally lets some truth through, that there are a lot of smart criminals out there. I truly wish there’s a live national show called THIEVES that also show how many criminals get away with things. (not that I promote that kind of stuff but I just don’t want to see dumb people on TV!!! I rather see the ALL OF IT! Wouldn’t you? That is why I don’t watch COPS.) I think the more people know about the truth, the better they will be prepared for it instead of lying in the dark. (and freaking out when stuff like this happens.)

As for Apple, I think they need to tighten up the security, I am sure they can easily install some software on the MacBooks so they can “trace” those laptops. I can’t believe that Apple store didn’t even have laptop locks at the least, that’s a shame on Apple, shame indeed.

It’s also the fancy glass doors that don’t do anything but leave the store vulnerable to thieves. (And I am sure we will start seeing some metal doors at Apple Stores soon.)

FYI, glass can easily be broken by throwing the ceramic from spark plugs. (something I learned from one of my old pals who used to be a real gangster in LA. I wouldn’t use it for stealing but would be a great idea for getting yourself out of your car if you drive your car into the water somehow.)

In a sense, it’s like you don’t have a virus protection on your computer and you complain when you get a virus.

In a sense, if you have vulnerability, it’s going to be exploited of course! Glass doors are probably the dumbest things to have at a store that sells gadget items ranging couple thousand bucks each.

For comparison, I hate shopping for gadgets at Wal-mart. All of their laptops on display are non-working plastic models, not even REAL laptops! Now I see why they do it.

Again, I think these criminals are probably a lot smarter than Steve Jobs, they probably won’t catch them.

Even, Engadget calls these thieves, “impressive”.

The ABC reporter, Dan Cuellar in the video below calls it, “spectacular”.

I am getting a sense that people are supporting this, am I right?

What do you think, impressive or should they be punished?

As for me, Apple deserves at least this for “forcing” iPods into proprietary audio files i.nstead of worldwide accepted MP3s.

After all the millions of dollars they racked in from iPods and iPhones, this isn’t really big news, maybe just a pimple on their face.

Face it. This all could easily have been avoided if you locked all the display laptops in a secure storage area before you close the store. (and it can obviously be done pretty quickly, less than a minute it seems.) Hmmm… I wonder why jewelry stores do that, does anyone have any ideas? (Sarcastic)

PCWorld has recently conducted an unbiased data test for the 3 big cellular providers Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T.

The results are not shocking as AT&T had the most unreliable service, meaning you could get fast download speeds in your bathroom while you might even struggle to get connection while you drive.

On the bright side, Verizon and Sprint came out on top for reliability, which is probably the most important factor in choosing the fastest data network for your smartphone, iPhone, or Palm Pre. Oops, iPhone is not available on Verizon or Sprint, I would simply wait until it is available if you really want the iPhone or just get a iPod Touch like I did.

These test verify my recent speed test of iPhone 3G versus the Palm Pre. Of course, I have been complaining about AT&T’s slow service ever since it came out or even the days before AT&T’s cellular network used to be called Cingular.

Don’t forget that Sprint is the only data network rolling out 4G right now. If you are on any other network, you will eventually have to switch to be up to speed.

As all things, I hate anything that’s slow but I heart anything that can be done as fast as humanly possible.

Make a wise choice when you choose your network for your cellphone. If you happened to live in good AT&T coverage/speed area, well you must be one of the few. But otherwise, Sprint is probably the better choice, common sense, not biased opinion.

Sometimes something comes along that either too good to be true, or just too way out to be true. Now this chain saw is supposed to be powered via the USB port, which simply begs the question why would you want a chain saw in the office or home?

Of course, according to the website this product launches in September at a cost of around $60, the price is about right for an electric powered chain saw. However, we are still not convinced about this one, there are too many things wrong with this, and so what do you think?

Much to the annoyance of mobile phone companies the iPhone fan site benm.at, has a simple hack that iPhone users can download, once completed it bypasses the tethering option and allows the user to access the internet via the iPhone.

Lol, Microsoft is implying that Apple Macs are too expensive on their new ads, as seen in this vid. It’s true though, I “still” have bought 1 Mac in my whole entire life, that was for one of the graphic designers I hired, not for me. Of course, I will always need the extra features that PC give me, (ironic huh saying this and coming from a person who doesn’t like Windows) there’s so much more you can do on a PC.

Of course, I will never be satisfied with Windows, the operating system, but yes, PCs will always rule and that doesn’t mean Windows is good though, but Intel/AMD CPUs and the hardware that runs it is very good…

I just don’t want to spend over $2000-3000 on a Mac, when I can get like 3-4 PC laptops worth $600 each. Besides, it’s wiser to buy a $600 every year rather than shelling out your wallet at one-time, which you will regret when your $3000 laptop is worth less than half of its original price the year after. Btw, I did buy a $2000 HP laptop every year. Not because the HP laptops were slow, they all DIED. No more HP laptops for next 10 years I think… (for me.)

That’s right, it’s a not-Mac! I mean, it’s an HP! It’s hard to keep track, since the only complaint the commercial brings up is that Giampaolo (henceforth referred to as “John”) wants to pay for the components, and not the brand. And that’s a fairly reasonable point of view, according to our study of the infamous “Apple Tax.” It’s true, John simply cannot buy a new MacBook with, say, 4GB of memory for under $1,500. But as any Apple fanboy knows, with Apple, your premium pays for the software, and for Microsoft (primarily a software company!) to take the position that software has no impact on value is an odd choice.

I guess it’s easy to damage your iPhone’s volume control if you drop it badly enough right on the volume control unit. Well, for those of you who can’t control the volume of your iPhone, here’s an easy way to dismantle and get your volume control working again. It also looks like Apple is being evil about anyone dropping the iPhones so this hack might just save you from buying a new iPhone.

I was unfortunate enough to drop my iPhone 1G on the decrease volume switch and if anything approached it, the volume would fall to the bottom and stay there as if someone had a finger on it. This interferes with any usage and really gets to you.

Even though the iPhone was under contract, since it was an accident Apple’s official response was ‘Sorry. Buy a new phone’. Since the warranty did not mean anything, the decision was taken to open and try to fix it
