Powerful LED light for the car

Posted in Auto, Consumer, Cool, Gadgets, Motor by david on the June 19th, 2007 at 10:00 am

Now not many people smoke these days, yet we still have cigarette lighters in the cars, so clearly we need something useful to replace the lighter.

Luckily there is this powerful LED light that is placed into the cigarette lighter housing, where it charges up, now you have a great portable light to use in emergencies, or for just reading maps or directions, what could be simpler.

Some car owners are already using these devices as they are already installed in some up market cars like BMW.

This one will cost around $20.

Wow, this is sweet… This could easily be implemented for medical robotic arms.

A master/slave system I built using potentiometers, servos, and an IFI robotics controler .

I took this robot apart a couple of years ago, but I am re-building it for a class at my university.

The shoulder rotation, elevation, and elbow joints are Expert Electronics SL820(shoulder elevation) or SL800(rotation and elbow) giant ball bearing servos. I don’t have the original gripper as it broke. it was just a regular servo with a piece of balsa wood attached to the side, and one attached to the servo horn. I used epoxy to attach the wood.

Drum Piano 2

Wow, this drum piano is the coolest thing ever. Although you do miss the physical part of actually drummin’ on your equipment, this is a nifty device for those of you good with the piano but not with the drums. It looks like there are hydraulic actuators on it to control all the drum sticks. Anyways, this is cool…

On the site note, I have been slacking on posts lately. We had to move a lot of stuff out of our site which was slowing our site down. We will have them up and running again since we will be moving to a new server very soon~ :)

Nissan warns over intelligent keys

Posted in Auto, Motor by david on the May 25th, 2007 at 4:00 pm

Owners of the new Nissan Altima and Infiniti G35 sedan, are being warned by Nissan North America that they should be careful not to place their mobile phones within one inch of their intelligent keys, the problem is that in some cases by having the I Key and your mobile phone in your pocket or in a bag then there is the possibility that the data on the I Key may be wiped, which would be very handy when you out late at night.

nissan key

What happens is that the an incoming call can erase the memory on the I Key, the problem is that the are apparently unable to be reprogrammed, so once the memory has gone, the I Key is finished, now that is just no good at all, how much is a new Nissan Altima.

Check out this cool electric skateboard these guys made. Thanks Frank for letting me get on it. I was about to take off with it to my house…
It’s an electric skateboard that goes forwards and backwards by simply putting your weight towards where you want to go. It seems to be using some kind of accelerometer. If they start selling these to kids, these would be way more cool than any Segways for sure.

Check out MetroMotive.com for more information. (Although it’s not updated right now, there’s an email contact)
