There are secret codes all around us, we hear them all of the time and in some cases see them too, but we do not take any notice of them because they are secret codes used by the authorities.

Below are just a few of those being used, probably in a building near you right now.

Names:

Code delta: can mean that there is a biological hazard – though who knows what that might be on a passenger ship.

Code Alpha: often means “medical emergency”.

Computer:

PEBKAC: Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair

PICNIC: Problem in chair – not in computer

ID 10 T Error: ID 10 T is, of course, IDIOT

DR:

Doctor Brown: is a code word often used in hospitals to alert security staff to a threat to personnel. If a nurse or doctor is in danger from a violent patient or non-staff member, they can page Doctor Brown to their location and the security staff will rush to their aid. In some hospitals

Dr. Allcome: Serious emergency. “Doctor Allcome to Ward 5.” would indicate that all medical staff not presently occupied are needed. (The Med, Memphis Tennessee)

Colours:

Code Gray/Grey

- A combative person with no weapon under HASC suggestions.

- Severe Weather (Cook Children’s Medical Center, Fort Worth, TX)

Code Pink

- Biohazardous contamination of a patient or staff. (Heartland Regional Medical Center)

- Patient is under influence of illegal substances (UK First Aid organisations)

Mind Hack – How to do More Stuff in Less Time!

Okay, here’s a fun mind hack for all of you working in a cubicle, home, or whereever.

It’s a mind exercise that can possibly help you do more stuff in less time.

Now let me begin by saying that I used to work from 6am to 12am in Korea when I used to work at Comfile. (That’s 6am until midnight, 18 hours of work)

I am very very familiar with working overtime at a cubicle, especially because I had the chance to work with fellow Korean people couple years ago, they work really freakin’ long hours. (with no efficiency whatsoever though)

As a hard working person I am, I have realized more and more that you can actually accomplish more stuff if you simply give yourself less time to do it.

Why?

Well, your mind works like this.

If you are given 2 hours to do a project, whether that’s writing a presentation in 2 hours or whatever, your mind will work as fast as 2 hours.

Now, simply give yourself 1 hour to do the project, you will HAVE to find shortcuts and more efficient ways to do that same project.

It’s sorta like driving. There’s a lot of people who drive kinda stupid, stepping on the gas and then brake even when there’s traffic. All you had to do was less, gently press on the gas enough to let the car naturally stop. The thing you should have been focusing is the big picture, which lane is moving the fastest, not what’s in front of you.

Less is more.

How to Apply this concept at your Workplace

Everyday, start going home 5 minutes earlier. So if you get off work at 5PM, start “forcing” yourself to get off work at 4:45PM. (The next day, 4:40PM, the next day: 4:30PM, etc…etc…)

If your boss starts complaining, just keep making excuses such as (”I got a date”) or whatever. It’s a freakin’ job for godsakes, it ain’t your life. Eventually, even your boss will see that you leave after finishing your job faster than everyone else, and give you a raise.

Once you start forcing yourself to do more stuff in less time, your mind will slowly adjust accordingly.

Eventually, you will be able to get off work at 2 or 3PM and get the same of amount of work done.

Let me ask you, how many times have you sat in your office chair IMing someone or simply wasting a lot of time?

Probably 2-3 hours to say the least, that’s where you lose efficiency.

By making your mind to do more stuff in less time, you will also have more time for yourself, to do other recreational activities such as golf or spend the late afternoon with your kids.

This might not work though if you have a manual-labor job such as data-entry or UPS man for example.

But if you work in a job where it requires a lot of intelligence and mind, (such as programming, management, etc…etc…) you will be able to solve problems in less time.

As for me, I have somehow learned this mind hack while programming.

There are night where I moonlight and stay up all night trying to figure out a bug in my code.

Now, some nights, as soon as I find a bug, I actually stop working right there and then, go relax and sleep.

The next day, I figure out the problem in just 5 minutes with a fresh, morning mind. A lot of programming stuff happen in your mind. Your mind can think for you subconsciously when you are asleep.

Again, Less is More.

If you want to enjoy life, try doing everything less, but accomplish more.

RFID tagged umbrella

As part of a program in Amsterdam the Dutch Umbrella is a RFID tagged marketing tool, what happens is the umbrellas are located at certain spots called Rain Drops; these are the participating businesses that have signed up as sponsors for the program.

Basically the sponsors are paying around $100 per month to receive the valuable marketing information gained by the reports generated by the RFID tags, what they do is track the movement of all the umbrellas, so when it is raining a shopper can borrow the umbrella and the data can follow where they go until they drop off the umbrella at one of the participating stores.

What this will show is some great data on the movement of shoppers and if there are any patterns then this will be very valuable to the stores concerned.

Bob Collier has been constructing his own thumb pianos, adding amplification, effects, self-sampling features, and novel cases involving recycled camera bodies and faux fur. As Bob says, “Sometimes the crudest and roughest looking kalimbas can sound surprisingly good especially with the right context of fx and
amplification.”

I find kalimbas beautiful and delicate to begin with. Throw in some faux fur and Korg KAOSS Pad effects, and they take on a whole new life:

I have been struck with the zzzzz sickness lately. I can get to sleep at night and feel like my whole
world is falling into (or needs to) the zzzzz world. If I start working out more often, this should be
better… (this flu is killing me!?!) Regardless, you can read about psychology today’s article on
how to get a better night’s sleep when you can’t sleep.

The biggest sleep robber of all, however, is work—the puritan ethic gone haywire in an era of global markets. To accommodate the relentless pressure for productivity, we’re sleeping less and spending less time in social and leisure pursuits; the resulting stress can steal away even more sleep. Consider this: We’re not only missing more shut-eye, we’re having less sex, too.

P.S. I have to agree, the last part should be more on top of our priority.
