Every time a printer cartridge gets thrown away, it seems to be such a waste, there is a lot of work that has gone into it and we just throw it in the bin. Well there is someone who thinks that these should be used for something else and the results can be found on Etsy.

We’ve seen a slew of solar-powered lamps in the last couple years but this is the very first time “dirt”, (yes, the stuff that’s on your ground) has been used to power a lamp. We wonder how long this will go, specifically when it will be available to the consumers.

The soil lamp uses the chemical reaction between copper, zinc, and slightly moistened mud to create enough electrical current to power an LED lamp. More cells can be used to create a brighter light or power more bulbs.

I was messing around with different materials trying to dress up a little LED tealight, and this is one of the versions I ended up liking (plus it’s dirt cheap since it’s just thread!). I love me some textures. This may be useful for those with wedding venues that don’t allow real flames.

Although I highly advise against building your own chandeliers, here’s a great DIY guide that shows you how to make your own whimsical chandelier using bunch of little crafty thingees.

This will be a DIY project in many parts. Each week I’ll post a step or two until we’re done. Basically you need to find a chandelier, paint it, buy wire, beads, both ordinary and extraordinary, and begin decorating the entire piece.. There is some basic wire wrapping of the beads to hang them as well as beginner’s French wire beaded flowers and I’m even going to show you how to make my signature beaded dragonflies and butterflies to finish the piece off.

For frequent flyers it this is must, its a little of the taxiway brought to your home and in actual fact the style of the lamp both in colour and design is in keeping with what you would expect to be seeing in at the airport.

Of course, these are not actual lights taken from the airports, although they are close enough to become a decent talking point when people come round for dinner etc.

Here’s a really cool DIY wall lamp you can make, go knock yourself OUT!

No need to go to the neighborhood IKEA store to get your hands on a cheap lamp. Build your own decorated wall lamp since its fun and cheap.

step 1 Electricity – materials and instructions
You can actually use a ready made lamp and skip this part.

Materials
1. Electrical cord + plug + switch
2. Contact mount
3. Swivel
4. Master socket
5. Nipple
6. Washer
7. Dual socket
8. Wall mount

Instructions
A. Connect the Nipple (#5) into the Swivel (#3)
B. Screw the Washer (#6) onto the Nipple (#5)
C. Insert the thin end of the Electrical cord (#1) into the Nipple (#5)
D. Connect the cord to Contact mount (#2)
E. Connect the Master socket (#4) to the Swivel (#3)
F. Connect the Dual socket (#7) to the Master socket (#4)
G. Connect Wall mount (#8) to wall
H. Insert Nipple (#5) into position on the wall mount
I. Tighten washer

step 2 Plastic cover – materials
1. Plastic plate

I have used 160 white LED’s for this project and it has been a success.
It gives a bright light and is suitable for the Drawing room, or the Dining room.’
You can have a Candlelight dinner without the candles.
Hang it from the ceiling and you have a decorative light. It is easy to make and is also cheap.

For one, I know Philips was working on color-changing LEDs and lightbulbs that are easy to install while providing high power.

On top of that, they introduced Ambilight TVs where the background lights would match with what you see on TV.

Lastly but not least, I did hear of CitizenM hotels in Amsterdam, supposed to be all design and damn great.

It seems that Philips is partnering up with bunch of design hotels to showcase their new products.

I think this is a great way for the company to get exposure and also great for the design hotels to get the latest technology straight from Philips. (Yes, sometimes we are not bitter. )
