Back in the 70s, my dad was an exchange student in Japan for couple years where he had developed a taste for natto, fermented soy beans in Japan. One of his favorite sushi is also Natto Maki, which is a sushi made with natto of course.

Well, these natto fermented soy beans have proven to be great for beating cancer and all types of diseases and plus, I find myself eating these nattos and liking them more and more. Of course, the first time you taste it, it will taste like horse shit but as you keep eating them, they will taste more like eggs or something close to that.

Anyways, nattos are favorite part of my diet now. I can definitely tell you that if I have sour stomach or indigestion, these nattos will surely help and you will get solid and smooth poop afterwards. (That must be good for your health if you poop good.)

If you have a tendency to get colds often or eating habits are poor, you might want to consider start eating these natural foods to get yourself protected against cancer and other types of diseases.

Balding can be one of the most traumatizing experience for men and women, especially if they care for their hair. Of course, as for me, I think it’s perfectly okay to be bald, perhaps you would look more “mature”, not that I am bald anytime soon.

For those of you looking to stop balding, there are remedies such as rogaine or propecia, both of which are not natural but may stop/cure balding.

Most of balding is caused by your genes so if your parents are bald, you would probably go bald someday. My dad is balding slightly, he’s now slightly over 60 so it seems I have another 30 years to go before I reach his point or NOT?

Of course, you may want to seek natural remedies for balding. For that I’ve heard scalp massages (where you massage your head with your fingers and circulate more blood) might help. Also I have heard from my hair stylists while I was in Korea that simply washing your hair and drying it properly often helps too. Too often hair loss can be caused from dirty hair. Like your face, you might want to keep your head clean, isn’t that common sense? For one, don’t go to sleep without taking a shower if you’ve sweated profusely.

I also did some research and there’s even a way to stop hair loss by applying fresh coconut milk on your hair. This seems to make sense but I wouldn’t go further.

Would you put horse shit on your scalp if it proved to stop hair loss? I hope to God no, just be natural, if you are going to be bald, just accept it and perhaps girls would find your shaved head even more manly and attractive. Please don’t spend a dime on hair growth products, although I am sure someone is becoming a millionaire this second due to people who spend money on that. (Instead, donate that money to the homeless society please!)

Of course, last but not least, don’t stress yourself, relax!

Life is too short to worry about your hair (or scalp), if you think that much about your outside appearance, perhaps it’s time for you to work on your inner ones first.

Here’s an awesome hack involving a cellphone and a microscope! An engineer has made a DIY cellphone digital microscope that can actually be pretty darn useful. I think this hits the sweet spot that perhaps, many of our smartphones can be recycled as devices such as these. Kudos!

Now an engineer, using software that he developed and about $10 worth of off-the-shelf hardware, has adapted cellphones to substitute for microscopes.

“We convert cellphones into devices that diagnose diseases,” said Aydogan Ozcan, an assistant professor of electrical engineering and member of the California NanoSystems Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles, who created the devices. He has formed a company, Microskia, to commercialize the technology.

On this project I hacked a digital bathroom scale, for write (log) my weight variations over time, on a memory SD Card. I write the information (time date + weight) on a comma separated values (.CSV) file so I can quickly build a graph using OpenOffice, Gnuplot or some other capable program.

Driving Hack – How to Get More Mileage on Your Car by Driving More Efficiently!

Recently, I found out a “secret” on how to get more mileage from your car without any kind of gimicks or gadgets but by doing less, waaaay less.

I admit I am a city boy or city man if you want to call it that. I used to drive very fast, tailgate everyone, cut off everything. That’s just the environment I grew up in South Korea where yelling at your fellow drivers was just like eating breakfast.

Well, I have done that over 15 years of my life but sadly, my fast life has come to an end.

Of course, I did go from 15.4 miles per gallon to a whopping 19 miles per gallon on my V6 gas-powered 2002 Chevy Trailblazer SUV. Now, that’s a whopping 23.38% increase in efficiency of my SUV!

LMAO, I am thinking if EVERYONE in the world did what I did, it could possibly save more gas than any hybrids can.

So, here’s my secret.

1. Accelerate your car gradually at all times unless it’s an emergency. By not acclerating hard on your car, you will use your gas as efficiently as possible.

2. Try to accelerate more on downhills but less on uphills. By accelerating on downhills, you are in effect using your momentum so your gas is used more efficiently. If you try to accelerate too much on an uphill, it’s simply not efficient and you will end up using more gas.

3. This is one of the biggest secrets I found for my SUV. Most cars are most fuel-effcient at speeds between 25 to 55 MPH. Anything less or more will probably be inefficient. What I found was that these speeds are most common during modest traffic.

I used to frown when I encounter traffic on the road, now I smile because I can save more gas.

How?

Simply keep a good distance (about 5-10 seconds) between you and the car in front of you. Then, make sure to let off on the gas if you see brake lights. The 5 to 10 second gap will let you “coast” while your car will get near 99 MPG during that highly efficient mileage time. Of course, the 5-10 second gap also gives you a good chance that the traffic ahead will start moving again.

I have an MPG meter on my SUV and by doing this I found that I got about 60 to 99+ MPG during modest traffic where speeds are around 25 to 45MPH.

YES! That means you can actually get more miles per gallon during TRAFFIC!

As crazy as that sounds, it works.

Modest traffic is your best friend when it comes to driving on the highway. Plus, by keeping a gap between your car and the car in front of you, you will be able to erase traffic waves.

I see that 99% of people in traffic don’t do this. They do the opposite and press on the gas, brake, gas, brake, while I am never even hitting brake most of the time, just gassing as it’s needed to keep my 5-10 second gap.

Think of how much gas the world will save if everyone did this.

You don’t need an electric car, you just need to “drive more efficiently” to save earth.

That’s a whopping 23.38% increase in gas efficiency, THINK ABOUT THAT!

I am sure we can surely use that 23.38% to better use, don’t you think so?

Of course, most of us humans do not have the patience to achieve this because we are humans and we like the gas/brake combo by nature.

But I highly suggest you to try my methods and see if you can become more efficient at driving your gas guzzler. (and save earth)

Besides saving gas and earth, driving in this fashion will lower your heart rate, lessen your risk of heart diseases/cancer, and ultimately let you live longer.

There’s never a good reason to be in a hurry anyways unless your wife is pregnant or someone’s sick. If you must get to work in time, just get up earlier. If you must make it to an appointment, leave earlier. If you just need to go really fast and furious for an adrenaline rush, get a motorcycle like me; it’s much faster and furious than cars anyways.

Hurrying never helps anyone’s life, it just makes you feel like you are doing something faster when in reality, you are simply doing things less efficiently.

Again, there’s absolutely no reason to hurry unless you drive the fire truck.

Mental DIY – How to be Happy!

I’ve probably been a very happy guy most of my life. When I was growing up, my friends would tell me to stop smiling even. Well, good thing I ignored those advices, I am still a very happy guy most of the time.

Here’s some tips that can help you to be happy all the time like me:

Smile a lot. I like to smile like ALL THE TIME. Smiling has proven to increase your serotonin levels and make you live longer and healthier.
Rest a lot. Although I probably work more than most of you 9 to 5ers, I actually probably rest more often too. When I work, I try to divide up my time so I do a little bit at a time. Even when I do dishes, I will do 2 at a time for 3 hours until I finish, I don’t do them all at one setting.
Eat small often. This can help your stomach be happy and thus make you happier too. Don’t eat big meals, you will ultimately feel bloated and feel “tired” afterwards. Well, this is probably a “general” advice.
Draw cartoons and diagrams. – Drawing cartoons and diagrams will help strengthen your right brain, the creative side of you and help you get more creative thus more happy. Make your brain more creative, you will be happier.
Do things slowly and do it right the first time. – When you do things slowly enough, you will do them right the first time. Don’t ever do things too fast and have to do it again the 2nd time, 3rd time, yuck!
Think good, positive thoughts. – This is something I learned from listening to Anthony Robbin’s tapes when I was about 10 years old. I think it’s great advice to only fill your mind with great, positive thoughts. You are only what you think. By the time you think about the last time your wife did something bad to you, that’s only the beginning. On the other hand, when you fill your mind with great thoughts everyday, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be happy.
Use a lot of smilies in your e-mail and blog posts. Smiling doesn’t end in physical life, you should continue to smile online too, especially if you spend more time there like me.
Wave a lot and say thank yous. – I love greeting people by waving my hand. I know it’s so simple but a lot of people don’t even do that when they meet their friends or strangers. Waving a lot and saying thank yous a lot will help you through your day much easier and you will be happier. Wave and say thank you everytime you take your clothes to the cleaners or everytime you buy cigarettes from 7-eleven. I know it sounds stupid but it does make you a happier person and whoever is receiving those waves and thank yous will feel happier too!

Recently, I’ve had some life-changing experiences and would like to share with the world on “how to have more energy”.

About a week ago, I got really, really sick. I mean so sick that I could barely blog. (although I kept blogging…)

So somehow, I stopped drinking (after drinking everyday for practically most of my life on a daily basis) and also did some things that changed my life completely around.

Now, I am so FULL of energy, I feel like superman!

What did I do?

Well, to put it simply, I SLOWED EVERYTHING DOWN.

When you slow down everything, your body and mind will work better, faster, and more efficiently.

How many times do you remember doing something more than once?

I bet a lot of times you keep doing things because you made a “mistake”.

Another great advice,

“Do it right the first time.”

What do I mean by that?

If you do things right the first time, you never have to do it again. Similarly in golf, you want to hit great shots the first time, not the second or the third time. Golf is a game of who makes less mistakes.

With the world moving full-speed towards more organic and natural products, you MUST learn to make your own natural deodorant, just in case you end up in a country where they sell no deodorants. FYI, I used to grow up in South Korea, they never had deodorants as far as I can remember. I think they have some now but still most of the population does not even know why anyone would even put some stick on their armpits. Don’t worry, when I came to the States 20+ years ago, I thought everyone was crazy.

Hey, even this blogger says this natural deodorant works great so I don’t see how you can lose here, at least save some money on buying chemically-abundant deodorants off the shelves.

Here’s what I ended up mixing together for this batch:

3 Tablespoons shea butter
3 Tablespoons baking soda
2 Tablespoons corn starch
2 Tablespoons cocoa butter
2 vitamin E oil gel caps (puncture and squeeze out the oil)
Essential Oil (I used ylang yang and orange)

Remember I did a post on how to lose weight couple weeks ago with a manual treadmill that’s like 10 times cheaper and better for the environment? I got the Stamina InMotion II treadmill the other day and here’s a video hands-on review of the manual treadmill.

Overall, I do like this manual treadmill as it provides variable speeds without you adjusting it. Now, I don’t have to go to the gym to get a good cardio, I can simply step in my basketball shoes and start running on the manual treadmill, which is right next to my home desk.

Anyways, after 2 days of use, I am very very satisfied at my $140 investment. If you have sorta similar situation like me where you live in a small apartment, I highly suggest you to get one of these at the very least, it will make you healthier everyday.
