Here’s another really “spooky” Halloween DIY that shows you how to make glowing eyes that will look scary at night.

Halloween Eyes is the first project using my LMDriver platform (which I’ve been working on, on and off, for about 4 years (real life can be very inconvenient)). The concept is simple; a pair of TERRIFYING disembodied eyes rendered on a 4 5×7 dot matrix displays which look about and blink every so often. Even though I was going for “terrifying”, the most common reaction was “cute”. Yeah, cute like a GHOST.

With everyone going solar crazy, here’s 2 cool DIYs that show you how to make solar pumpkin Jack-o-Lanterns.

The first one is pictured above and uses a solar torch (the ones used for garden lights).

The second one uses a smaller Solar LED unit.

I think both are great ideas for using existing solar gadgets into the pumpkin.

Here’s a cool set of DIY colo-changing LED coasters.  Basically, it runs on solar power, LEDs light up in red for hot drinks and blue for cold drinks.

Looks pretty simple to make, maybe a good idea for your next circuits projects.

Smart Coasters are cast-plastic coasters for your drink that light up red when you put a hot drink on top and light up blue with a cold drink. The design is fully analog– no microcontrollers and no programming– and they incorporate a solar cell so that the whole thing is hermetically sealed: waterproof and washable. Check out this Bandai Lumiodot, which is basically an advanced version of Lite-Brite.

It may interest to get one of these as they can substitute a nice picture frame any day.

This Lumiodot can make a great gift for your kids to play with “pixel” art all day long.
