Electronic Paper is a cool looking digital display that is better than just a plain LCD digital display because it offers a thick black figure almost like it has been drawn by a thick marker pen.
It is quite technical but basically, it is the same technology that is used in the modern style eBooks, so you get the idea of what this is all about.
Features – When the microcapsules are positively and negatively charged, they either rise to the surface or fall to the bottom within liquid medium, making the display appear white or black at any given point for an easy-to-read, high-contrast display. The time can be displayed with the numerical hour at the top of the display and the minutes beneath or as an analogue dial on top with the minutes beneath (12-hour display only)–the display can also be reversed (white on black background). Therefore, when you happen to bump into him, check out his watch it so cool that only he could have built it.

This incredible piece of work contains a PCB, a couple glass tubes and of course a battery in order to display the time, he has to hold his wrist at the right angle.

Watch DIY – How to Replace Watch Battery!

Recently, my TokyoFlash Rogue’s battery ran out so I has to replace the battery. Since I like doing things myself, I figured that I could do this myself.

Depending on the watch you have, you can either pop the back out using a slim tool (or thin knife) or a watch repair kit.

To replace your watch battery, first you need to take the back out. If the back of your watch has a small recessed area (like a tab), that means you can simply pop the back of your watch.

If so, follow these directions otherwise you will need a watch wrench to turn the back and take it out.

1) Simply take a very thin knife tool such as shown below and pop the tool upwards towards the sky.

2) For my TokyoFlash watch, there’s a watch module that also simply pops out. After that you take one screw out to get to the battery.

3) Replace the battery with a CR2025 3V battery, then put it back in your watch. Simply pop your watch back in. Or if you are having trouble, get some cloth to wrap around the watch (so you don’t scratch it) and nudge it with a wrench until you hear the “pop”.

Most watch repair shops will charge you like anywhere between $10-20 but heck, if you can do this yourself after reading this, don’t mind sending me $5 donations. haha.

Fixing most watches involve two things, either a spanner wrench or a simple tool to pull the back out. Well, if you happen to replace those batteries on you expensive watch all the time and pay at least $10 to the watch repair shops, there’s a better way. You can learn how to make your own spanner wrench custom0-fitted to your watch so you can replace the batteries yourself. (There’s also a guide on how to make a plastic spanner wrench but probably don’t recommend (nor will it work) on watch backs)

I also replace the battery on my TokyoFlash watch couple days ago myself so I should have a howto on that real soon too.

Blending the technology of yesterday with the technology of today, not the sort of thing that you would think of as being something cool yet these watches that have been made to such very high standards can occasionally be very difficult to read, that is to say that it takes a bit of getting used to.

This particular watch has been designed by Hay Heun, it seems that his goal in life is to confuse and frustrate people over a just a simple thing like telling the time. How frustrating is that, imagine being asked the time by a stranger and you cannot tell them. You would have to think that it might be slightly embarrassing.

My first impression?

Quality craftmanship, these TokyoFlash watches look very “durable” and everything on the outside is made with Stainless Steel.

Here’s how to read the TokyoFlash Rogue:

This TokyoFlash Rogue LED digital watch is actually pretty easy to read, just looks very complicated but I got used to it within just couple hours.

Once mastered, navigating the time is simple, but creates a sense of mystique to the uninformed. The outer ring of small dots represents minutes, every fifth dot being slightly smaller to distinguish five minute groups. The ring of large blocks represents rough minutes, the position of the gap indicating approximate minutes. The inner ring of blocks represents hours, the position of the gap in the ring showing the current hour as on a clock face.

I remember when I first got my Swiss watch, that was like back in 1988, it was so radical to have no numbers in a watch.

Well, TokyFlash seems to be the next big thang in watches, check out this TokyoFlash LED Fire watch, that will let you keep time to yourself. If anyone asks for time, just show them your awesome LED watch and watch their face squiggle. (I usually joke, “It’s time to get a watch,” but this watch will let me do that without joking.)

Of course, there will be a slight learning curve in learning to read the LED watch but is definitely worth your time.

Full Details of the Fire Watch:

Vertically designed and carefully finished with uniquely machined holes drilled into the polished sheet, Fire is a streamlined design and wraps around your wrist so comfortably, you hardly notice it’s there.

Fire explodes into to life when the upper button is touched, animating the LEDs in an X formation from the centre to the corners before displaying the time.

Each hole, with two LEDs beneath the surface represents one unit of time. Yellow LEDs indicate hours 1-12, red LEDs indicate groups of 10 minutes and green LEDs indicate single minutes 1-9. As you can see, with some careful selection of materials virtually anything can be made including a nice designer style watch. This watch has been designed and made by Debra Dresler from Minnesota, she has used the parts from old telephones and mixed it up with a watch to produce this fantastic product.

This is a particularly interesting watch designed by Iskender Asanaliev from Turkey who must have a clear idea as to what is needed in good watch, this one looks spectacular but as you can imagine like many of these watches, it takes a bit of time to get used to.

Apart from being a watch the ON AIR can also act as light source should you need it during a power cut or something. It is amazing how these designers actually sit down and work out how these watches are going to work in the first place.

Here’s a really cool evolution watch that seems to feature all sorta animals to make a human being?

The Evolution watch was created with the help of the well-known Scottish illustrator and comic book artist Tom Gauld who managed to visualise time a little differently challenging our perceptions in his drawings. Rather than using numbers normally depicting time he takes his solid black characters to depict time as a sequence in evolution as opposed to a sequence in numbers paradigm.

Not long after it made its first appearance at the CES 2009 in Las Vegas, the LG G910 will be the appearing at the top Orange stores throughout Europe later on in the year. This will have all of the features that a mobile phone has, but in a handy little package that fits on your wrist.

The problem is that the screen is so small, that watching video for too long is going to put a strain on your eyes, there is another issue that has not ne been touched upon and that is the battery, is it a standard watch battery or a rechargeable battery, hopefully it will be the latter.

There were only around five hundred of these watches made, but that was a few years ago, these will eventually be a great investment and will easily exceed the cost of $200 as they are a limited edition the value should be going up all of the time.

The main feature of this watch is the red dot matrix that is used for the display it is just too cool to be real. However, the real disappointment is the fact that you are unable to play the game itself, which is a shame.

This is something from sci fi that has never quite made into our lives until now that is. It had to be those clever people over at LG who finally managed to reduce everything down in size to make this possible, but it sure looks good on the wrist.

The LG GD910 watch has a 1.43 inch touch screen with LCD display and built in camera, this is great for video calling etc, it connects through the 3G HSDP network at a speed of around 7.2 Mbps, but so far, there is nothing about price etc.
