For those of you looking to ways to hook up your desktop to your HDTV wirelessly using either HDMI digital connection or standard analog VGA, there IS a way, you can use Atlona’s AT-HDAir product which is a USB HDMI/VGA wireless converter. The unit also supports audio for HDMI connections as of recently (see press release), which means you will no longer need cables nor have your desktop close to your HDTV in order to watch crisp, clear 720P YouTube videos.

As for me, I have been looking for a solution like this one as I have most of my desktops just far enough away where cables will not be an option. I do have a netbook that I thought about hooking up to my HDTV but the CPUs on netbooks are still lacking and I can’t truly stream 720P videos from the internet with an Intel Atom 1.6Ghz processor.

NEC, the Japanese consumer electronics company, is having a blast developing TV remotes that work off kinetic energy, meaning it needs no batteries at all. The kinetic energy derived from the user picking up the remote itself and pushing buttons are apparently enough to power the remote itself. Well, why didn’t they make this earlier, think of how much energy could have been save in the last 20 years. I am sure the cost of making one of these remotes is still very high but good innovation, I can see the rest of the world following NEC’s steps now.

LCD DIY – How to Use an LCD Monitor as a HDTV!

It’s very easy to use a computer LCD monitor (with DVI inputs) as TV by simply plugging in an HDMI to DVI cable. Of course, you will need a separate sound system/speakers unless your LCD comes with speakers too.

Of course, it’s also easy to do the reverse, using your HDTV as computer screen, you will just need an HDMI cable from your graphic card to the HDTV. (all HDTVs have HDMI inputs)

LCD TVs have come down in price, but not enough. If you have a cable box, than your tv tuner is in the that box, not in the tv, so then why buy a tv with a tuner you will never use? Believe it or not you can save almost $200 when you buy a computer monitor instead of a tv.

The new Samsung LCD TVs run Linux for their firmware I guess and here’s some guy who has hacked it so the Samsung TV can do other things such as networking and file share.

Their modified Samsung firmware is available as SamyGo but you will first have to learn to enable telnet into your Samsung TV.

I think this opens a lot of doors for people like me who love hacking linux-based systems. Perhaps you can even install a Wordpress blog on your Samsung TV sorta like the Palm Pre.

[GRitchie] found that his new TV with “InstaPort” Fast HDMI Switching didn’t perform this re-encryption step between the set’s internal switcher and the next stage in decoding. Soldering just eight wires directly from the switching chip’s output to an HDMI cable provided an unencrypted output that could then be received by a PC for later replay.

In my recent trip to Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas couple months ago, I became of Texans and people there. One of my best friends is a true southerner from Texas, he “loves” the Cowboys, will die to just watch them on TV. Anyways, I’ve been to Texas often but I found that people there are very nice, indeed more nicer than people here in San Francisco where everyone too busy trying to cut each other off.

Anyways, Dallas Cowboys will be setting a world record with their new HD video screen which has total viewing area of 11,393 square-feet, equal to 3,268 TVs!

CYPRESS, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Mitsubishi Electric gained yet another entry in the Guinness World Records book with the recognition of its revolutionary Diamond Vision video boards at Cowboys Stadium as the World’s Largest High-Definition Video Display. The official certificate presentation will take place during a pre-game ceremony on September 28, just prior to the Cowboys vs. Carolina Panthers Monday Night Football game, which will be aired nationally on ESPN.

The world’s first four-sided, center-hung, high-definition video display in a stadium consists of four Diamond Vision(R) LED video screens, with the two main sideline displays measuring 72 feet high by 160 feet wide, and two Diamond Vision(R) end-zone displays measuring 29 feet high by 51 feet wide. Weighing 600 tons, the screens are suspended 90 feet directly over the center of the playing surface and stretch from nearly one 20-yard line to the other.

With a total viewing area of 11,393 square-feet, the Diamond Vision(R) display is equal to 3,268 52-inch televisions, and has 10,584,064 LED lights.

“This was probably the most exciting project we’ve ever been involved with,” said Mark Foster, general manager of Mitsubishi Electric’s Diamond Vision Systems. “The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most innovative teams in the NFL, and their new stadium reflects that. There is a touch of Jules Verne crossed with Robinson Crusoe going on here, this is a guy that has found or bought this old wreck of a submarine that has been allegedly beached on a desert island somewhere. Well some of that must be true in proportions we can only assume.

Whatever the situation this submarine has been converted into a steampunked home that looks so cool and appears to have all the creature comforts of home, if this is on a deserted island then I want one too! it is has been fitted out with all mod cons such as leather seats and 300 cm screen TV with super sound surround sound. This is a really cool place and there are plenty of people around who would want one too.

There are five aluminium cubes measuring around 72 mm on each side, it is an interesting concept that has to be put together correctly otherwise it is just not going to go back together again. With a price tag touching $10,000 that just would not do.
