This is so Star Trek, and yet it is a kit that you buy and it comes with everything that you need. But surely, that cannot be right so let us have a look.

You get a laser diode so care is needed there, but it really looks as if it is possible to produce a proper 3D holographic image, however we could do with a video to see if this actually produces what they claim.

A laser diode illuminates the object and creates an interference pattern that is captured on the holographic film, creating a three-dimensional image of the object. Here’s an interesting DIY Laser Plotter that uses 300mW Laser and allows you to plot your illustrations on things like wood or any thin film. Of course, I think you can also use much higher-powered, industry laser to actually cut through the wood and other materials but this is a great guide for those of you who want to get started with a DIY Laser Plotter.

The 300mW laser is not as powerful as I’d like it to be, but it can cut thin films, bite some 10-12mm into high density foam and pyroengrave wood.

Laserspotcam is a software I wrote to control xmms using a laser pointer by pointing defined areas on a wall.

The software monitors the wall for the presence of a small spot using a webcam. When the spot appears somewhere, if it is inside a defined hotspot, the appropriate command is executed.

Wow, check out this green/red laser projector which can do animations.

This is one of my experimental Dance/Trance songs from 2000. I build laser systems for fun so I have put together pictures and clips from assembly to a full working system to go with the song. I know the song gets really annoying after awhile sorry. Iv’e been getting a lot of email asking how the projector works and what parts are in it.
Here’s how the projector works:
The green laser bounces off a mirror then through a green beam splitter, the beam is then separated (The reason for this is later I added a second beam turret projector which did not work well so I removed it and also the beam splitter The Green beam then bounces off a red dichroic filter and into the Scanners. The red laser passes through the red dichroic filter this allows you to mix the two colors into one beam or into dual images if the alignment is off.
(Most all of the video uses the red laser because the green was too bright for the video camera)

Remember my Green Laser Projectr DIY? Well, here’s a similar DIY project except it uses a speaker to send vibrating pulses to the end-results beams instead of a motor.

So how does one go about making one of these things? Well, I made every effort to make construction as simple as possible for two reasons. One, electrical engineering is far from my speciality and I didn’t want to kill myself/ruin a laser I could only afford one of. Two, I always hated seeing incredibly awesome projects on the internet that I never had any hope of building due to funds and bizarre parts. That’s not to say you don’t need some basic soldering and construction skills, as well as a healthy respect for the power of laser light, but it’s definitely doable if you put your mind to it.

Here’s a really cool DIY showing you how to build a hard disk laser scanner made from bunch of old hard disks.

My latest tinkery hardware and embedded systems project is a homebrew laser scanner. You know, the kind you see at planetariums- sweep a laser beam around on the wall really fast, and draw vector graphics. Commercial laser scanners have been around for decades now, but buying a complete system is still really pricy, even on eBay. Besides, where’s the fun in that?

There are plenty of examples of homebrew laser scanners on the internet. Many people have wired up a pair of loudspeakers, hard disk actuators, or other readily available mechanisms to an amplifier and used them for simple laser graphics. This will make some pretty wiggly patterns on the wall, but it isn’t a real vector graphics display. The best example I know of for a totally built-from-scratch laser projector (not using commercial galvo actuators) actually uses custom hand-wound galvanometers. Very nice.

Since I have been playing with green lasers for about a year, I never saw any good use for them except to point them to the sky or buildings.

Since the green laser has a lot of power, especially the one DragonLasers sent me recently, I decided it was time to make a simple green laser projector without me spending days to build one.

This simpler green laser projector was made so I could use it for my next party and I always wanted to make this. Although this laser projector only does one animation, 2 whirpools, I planned to improve upon after making this very basic version.

Remember I did a review on a 125mW Viper green laser last year?

Well Frank from DragonLasers sent me a Spartan GW 250mW green laser so I can show you guys how cool it is. The beam is much bigger this time and as you can see in the video, it’s WAY more powerful. Everytime my friends come over, they are hogging me to get them a free green laser. It’s really something you don’t need but once you see one in real life, you need it.

Yup, this green laser did go beyond a lot of miles as you can see in the video. It even goes through black tape in just 1 second. (I wasn’t aware there’s a hole in the video, but if you look carefully, the green laser beam goes through the tape almost as soon as I put the tape on it.)

Why a green laser?

Well, it’s great to simply point it around or point it at the sky. If you want to have real fun, you can do some experimenting such as making a laser projector.

Crossfire EX 600mW

Wow, I was impressed with this super-gigantic green laser from TechLaser.com. The Crossfire EX 600mW green laser even comes with its own case. (Wish they made that an option so I don’t have to pay for the case but…I guess this thing is pretty big and you need a big case for it) At a price tag of $2,649.99, it’s a risky buy but this laser does have the “best” specs on power out of any other gigantic green lasers listed in this review.

The Crossfire EX is a complete laser gear package designed for outdoor travel. The set includes one Crossfire laser, LaserShades for eye protection and a rugged, lightweight, durable travel case to protect your laser. The Crossfire EX also comes with an sturdier imported keyswitch for better durability replacing the ones orignally from CNI.

Hulk Ultra 400mW

Next up is Hulk Ultra from DragonLasers.com. Frank from DragonLasers.com sent me numerous samples of their 125mW green lasers before, every green laser he sent me lasted me a long time and worked great. I just need to move onto the “big” boys now.

Anyways, The Hulk Ultra actually varies between 400 to 600mW in output power, meaning this super-gigantic laser is probably the best for your money at $1499.99. The laser also comes with safety goggles, batteries, and battery charge, all included for free.

With a power range of 250mW to more than 500mW and a host of safety features, the Hulk Ultra series lasers is the ideal combination of high power and safety. The Hulk Ultra also comes with free laser safety glasses, making the Hulk Ultra ideal for people who want extreme power and safety.

Spyder II GS

Next up at bat is Spyder II GS from WickedLasers.com. This Spyder super-gigantic green laser does look pretty awesome with 6061-T6 Aircraft-Grade Aluminum casting. I don’t if that’s necessary but it does make the green laser look great and probably make it last longer. The laser is also “water-proof” up to 30 meters, which is probably its strongest point. I don’t know if you could take it surfing with you but this laser does seem the most rugged out of the three super-gigantic green lasers we reviewed today.

The Spyder II GS is rated at 200 to 300mW in output power.

At price tag of $1699.99, it’s a pretty good spend for 200 to 300mW of power but remember you do get “aircraft aluminum” casting and “water-proof” casing, that’s probably where the extra cost went to.

Overview

Remember, these 300 to 600mW green lasers are really powerful and probably will cause blindness if you point at a person’s eye for more than 20 seconds.

A lot of people ask me, especially my friends, “Why do you need a green laser?”. I tell them, “You shoot it at the sky at night and watch the green laser brighten the sky for miles and miles.” That’s right, the green laser is really for entertainment, it’s cool! Wouldn’t you want to have one?

Device that can see through walls

Now this may be considered good by some people and really bad by others, but whatever the general consensus of opinion this thing is out and no doubt somebody somewhere is using this to spy on someone else.

This device uses the lobster vision, which is exactly what they say it is. It uses the same principle of vision as a lobster would to find its way through the murky waters.

But there are issues here too, the devices uses a type of x ray, which I believe could be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands or even the right hands, so should this device be available to just anyone? I hope not!

Now I am not sure about this one, simply because it is made by Eureka Aerospace, but whatever the case the idea is pretty cool.

This device if it could be made portable enough could stop police chases once and for all, no body wants to see high speed chases apart from in the movies as they are a danger to all, so anything that could stop it has to be a good thing.

However what happens if they miss and hit the driver head?
