For those Apple fanboys who also tend to keep a good modern, stylish home, you might want to consider this $2,299 GIANT solar-powered iPhone/iPod dock that will let you recycle the power of the sun and use its 60-watt equivalent speakers to output some stereo music. I know, this is going overboard and I probably wouldn’t get it (for this outlandish price) but perhaps some of you have money waiting to burn on stuff like this. (I rather spend it on a Canon 7D DSLR, much more worth it to me…)

The design is fantastic though, I wouldn’t complain if I had one.

As an avid linux user, I think this is something Apple must definitely look at as there are more linux users, Linux is still the most widely used operating system for websites including this one, that should give them some clue.

Well, I’m happy to say that all of this is coming to an end and that Linux will finally get quite complete iPhone/iPod Touch syncing support soon, thanks to the work of many dedicated people. This is what the software stack looks like:

John Boiles, a software engineer, has just finished making his really cool WiFi RC car that uses a Linksys router (attached to the RC car) and his iPod Touch as control. You can learn how to make one of these awesome iPod Touch controlled WiFi RC Cars here.

I don’t want to take anything away from John but a little suggestion, instead of mounting the whole Linksys router, you might do better using a WiFi module for embedded processors. (or just strip the plastic off Linksys at least)

Brilliant project though, making use of WiFi is ideal I think due to its range, add a WiFi repeater and go even further.

When being used as a stand, the handle part can be used in a similar way as picture frame. It can be stood up either upright or on its side this is useful for iPhone owners who want to use the iPhone how they are used to operating it and not in a way that the device want the user to. iPhone Hack – How to Make a Solar iPhone Charger!

As tricky as it may sound this app can actually allow the user to take control of a remote controlled aircraft and fly it around as if you had the proper flight controls. The program allows the iPhone to access a Linksys router to get an IP address and from there on its just plain sailing. I am not sure that is as easy as all that, but there are further details available on site.

What you get:

1. Throttle Lock/Cut

2. Visual Throttle Cue so you can see if the throttle is at full and you are not getting power to the plane. In addition, the phone will vibrate depending on different throttle positions. Full throttle gets a hearty shake out of the old girl.

3. Network status (Based on ping latency)

4. Really difficult to accidentally quit.

5. Ability to eventually use more than one engine. (Just in case).

6. Cool looking throttle levers like the big boys use.
