Honestly, you might do better using a real camera (such as a DSLR) for taking photos rather than a smartphone like iPhone but if you must, you can make yourself one of these cool magnifying camera lens along with an LED flash that will let you take close-up, macro shots with ease. Also, don’t forget to adjust your iPhone Lens to focus for macro by hacking it if you are going to use this gizmo.

At first, I just had small metal bezels that I used to hold the lenses up to the camera lens. This was clumsy and upon getting the camera close enough to focus, all of the light was crowded out. These are the problems I intended to solve with this device. This is what I came up with.

Here’s a quick alert for iPhone users who have jailbroke their iPhones, you need to secure your iPhone by changing your SSH root password if you haven’t.

Otherwise, it’s very easy for someone to hack your iPhone!

As correctly pointed out by some users in the comments section below, the instruction in Step 2 will change your mobile password only. In order to change root password, type ‘login’ command (without quotes) and then press enter. Now type ‘passwd’ command (without quotes) again and press enter. It will now prompt you to enter your old root password which is ‘alpine’ followed by a new one (twice). Simply enter your old and new password again as you did in Step 3 (for changing mobile password) and you should be all fine. It is highly recommended that you change, both your mobile and root passwords to make sure you are completely safe from any outside SSH attack.

As an avid linux user, I think this is something Apple must definitely look at as there are more linux users, Linux is still the most widely used operating system for websites including this one, that should give them some clue.

AT&T now clearly “guilty” of messing with net neutrality, doesn’t allow tethering nor MMS on iPhone 2G with OS 3.1.2. Well, you don’t have to worry about AT&T, they don’t control your own iPhone, simply hack it and learn how to tether iPhone 2G plus enable MMS here:

1. Backup original CommCenter (goes without saying…)
2. Replace CommCenter in: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support/ with a patched one.
3. Chmod the new CommCenter to 755
4. Open /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/M68AP.plist and insert a true boolean value for “mms” under capabilities

It’s interesting because I have been refusing to get the iPhone because of AT&T here in the States while all of Europe is getting blazingly fast network speeds on their iPhones. One of my friends “claim” that Skype Mobile works flawlessly in Ukraine and Dubai, which I believe is probably true.

On the side note, Orange will be offering iphones in the UK and O2’s previous exclusive deal with Apple will end soon according to BBC News (which I don’t read much but for all you bloody readers out there…):

The deal ends an exclusive arrangement between UK network operator O2 and the Californian phone maker, which has been in place since 2007.

Orange said its customers would be able to buy the phone “later this year” but did not specify a date or pricing.

Orange will also be merging their network with German T-Mobile it looks like:

Orange recently revealed plans to merge its UK network with Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile to create a business with 28.4 million customers.

Apple iPhone “Explodes” Over Battery Problems – Possible Health Hazard!

It seems that French consumer affairs minister has met with an Apple exec to discuss the latest iphone “explosion” problems in France and other parts of the world.

iPhone exploding, is that possible?

Yes, the battery of the iPhone has been reported to “explode” at random occasions ever since its birth. Apple is claiming that their iPhones do not explode but history says otherwise. Apple Nanos in South Korea have been recalled in the past due to “faulty” batteries, possibly the ones that explode.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards said in a statement that it requested on June 25 that Apple Korea should recall 1st generation iPod nanos following a series of complaints about batteries overheating or exploding.

It’s probably not a big percentage of iPhones that explode and may only affect the ones with battery defects but still, it makes me wonder if it’s safe to get an iPhone anymore.

I will have to stick with Palm Pre for now, which is better at multi-tasking and I can hack it to do more stuff on its native linux system. Plus, I hate to worry about anything “exploding”. If Apple denies that world-wide reports are false, they are bunch of liars and I don’t need to be part of that.

I first started out with plastic from iphone box. I trimmed excess from edge to make it look more attractive doesn’t have to be done. Next , I lined up the Rubber case to find where I would need to place holes for the camera and the screws. I found that the case doesn’t find in straight in needs little bit of an angle to work, it depends on type of rubber case. The best rubber cases I found to work with this is the one’s that have a rubber cover for the home button it keeps the phone in better. After line up where you want to put the holes, you can drill it or just use a knife to make the holes.

Network DIY – How to Choose the Right Network for Your iPhone or Palm Pre!

PCWorld has recently conducted an unbiased data test for the 3 big cellular providers Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T.

The results are not shocking as AT&T had the most unreliable service, meaning you could get fast download speeds in your bathroom while you might even struggle to get connection while you drive.

On the bright side, Verizon and Sprint came out on top for reliability, which is probably the most important factor in choosing the fastest data network for your smartphone, iPhone, or Palm Pre. Oops, iPhone is not available on Verizon or Sprint, I would simply wait until it is available if you really want the iPhone or just get a iPod Touch like I did.

These test verify my recent speed test of iPhone 3G versus the Palm Pre. Of course, I have been complaining about AT&T’s slow service ever since it came out or even the days before AT&T’s cellular network used to be called Cingular.

Don’t forget that Sprint is the only data network rolling out 4G right now. If you are on any other network, you will eventually have to switch to be up to speed.

As all things, I hate anything that’s slow but I heart anything that can be done as fast as humanly possible.

Make a wise choice when you choose your network for your cellphone. If you happened to live in good AT&T coverage/speed area, well you must be one of the few. But otherwise, Sprint is probably the better choice, common sense, not biased opinion.

Go to your settings menu -– the icon with the gears. Look for “General,” a menu with the same gear icon as the Settings menu. At the very bottom of the General menu is a “Reset” button. Touch it. Then choose “Erase All Content and Settings.”

When it is done it will look like this. Hopefully yours won’t have the chip by switch button. To use it you just have to hold the switch down. I’m not really happy with the placement of the switch, that’s why I am doing the Mophie Mod 2.0 and why I will be giving this mod away.
