Topsy Turvy Hanging Tomato Grower!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Food, Gadgets, Household by max on the July 21st, 2008 at 11:09 am

With our society calling out for more organic stuff, with some people even operating a home-farm, the Topsy Turvy hanging tomato grower lets you grow fresh, organic tomatoes in your apartment/house without taking up much space.

At $19.95, I’d get a bunch of these and start growing some fresh tomatoes for my ultimate spaghetti dish.

When the Topsy Turvy™ planter is used, the tomato plant is planted in a planter that is suspended in the air, instead of in the ground. Because the plant is in the air, and will never touch the ground, staking, caging, bacteria, ground rotting, fungus and small animals are all problems of the past. In addition, you get to do all of the necessary work while standing up instead of bending over - sucker and trim with scissors, water and fertilize through a built in top funnel, and harvest tomatoes at chest height. There are also no holes that have to be dug to plant, and weeding is all together eliminated.

Chocolate, Is it Bad for Dogs?

Posted in Animals, Consumer, Cool, Educational, Food, Medical, Pets, health by max on the July 16th, 2008 at 12:33 pm

If you are a dog owner, you might have heard that chocolate is poisonous to dogs.  Well, according to sources, it is toxic, but not unless the dog eats a certain amount.  In other words, chocolate may have to be treated sorta like alcohol for dogs and do in moderation.

We’ve all heard it, “Don’t give your dog chocolate it will kill him”. We’ll how true is it you’re probably wondering. Do I have to rush him to an emergency vet if he ate one of my M&M’s?

The truth is chocolate contains theobromine that is toxic to dogs in sufficient quantities. This is a xanthine compound in the same family of caffeine, and theophylline.

The good news is that it takes, on average, a fairly large amount of theobromine 100-150 mg/kg to cause a toxic reaction. Although there are variables to consider like the individual sensitivity, animal size and chocolate concentration.

Korean JATY Navigation does Breathalyzer!

Korean JATY Navigation does Breathalyzer!

Here’s an innovative idea for all future navigation systems, to include a breathalyzer.  How many DUI convictions would we save for an extra sensor and some stupid program that’d probably cost the navigation manufacturer extra 5 bucks?

At least, we know exactly what “level” we are on before driving.

Those crazy Koreans have brought out a new auto toy to tell if you’re fit to drive after a few jars of the sauce. Yes, the JATY DR7200 doubles as a breathalyzer as well as a GPS buddy, MP3 player, ebook reader, DMB television device, games console and all round modern day motoring Swiss Army Knife.

If only you were able to hold on to the can better. Now you can. Beerhandle snap securely on to any 12oz can giving you an easy to hold handle. Great for picnic and parties.

DIY - How to Make Automatic Cat Water Dispenser!

DIY - How to Make Automatic Cat Water Dispenser!

Here’s a really cool DIY that shows you how to make an automatic cat water dispenser so your kitty can drink water straight from the faucet!

So, I built the Cat Faucet so the cats could turn the water on and off for themselves. As a kit, I would rate this medium complexity. The electronics are simple and straight-forward but you also need to do some mechanical work and some plumbing to complete the project, which raises the complexity.
