Wal-Mart are teaming up with e-Play who will provide machines or kiosks in their stores in the North-eastern States, currently there are seventy seven machines at various locations in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

All the user does is takes the game to the kiosk and can the bar code on the machine, this will generate a quote that the user either accepts or rejects. If the consumer accepts the quote then they simply insert the disc into the machine, then in about two to three days time the money is credited to the seller’s credit card.

In this image the fakes are pretty easy to spot, but with a bit of cosmetic sorting out then it may be impossible to tell for some people.

However these games consuls only work out at around $3 at wholesale, so they are hardly going to be of the same quality as the real thing anyhow and you only get what you pay for.

I remember hearing my mom play classic and opera all the time in the house when I was growing up.
Because of that, I really like to stick with trance classic or pop classic if I am listening to Classic at all these days.
Here’s a symphony that plays video game theme songs, something that I can associate to. Now I can actually listen to Classical music.
Speaking of symphonies and music, my dad wants to create a family band, he’s such a fanatic about drums and he’s got a whole professional set of drums. I did use to play the alto sax and enjoy blues so we will see if we can get our band together soon…

Here’s a cool hack for your XBOX 360 if you want to make it like a Wii controller or a SixAxisController.

The accelerometer works by outputting varying voltages for varying accelerations. I will use a 3-axis accelerometer so it will output 3 varying voltages. I will use an analog-to-digital converter to get the signals into a micro controller. The micro controller will do the processing that determines how the controller is tilted. It will then be output as an analog voltage to the controller in place of the on board potentiometers that are controlled by the analog stick.

Analog sticks work by adjusting two potentiometers (pots). After I took the controller all apart and experimented I found the potentiometers had an upper voltage of 1.61 volts and a lower voltage of 0 volts. On the up/down pot all the way up is 1.61 volts and all the way down is 0 volts. On the left/right pot all the way right is 0 volts and all the way left is 1.61 volts.”

Here’s a cool hack that allows users to use Nintendo Wii controller with the PS3 as a pointing device.
Although we cannot give it two thumbs up as it uses Linux for the PS3 in order to use the Wii
controller, we are sure someone will probably come up with a native hack for the PS3 soon.

Sony may have called the Wiimote a bit of a gimmick, but just a week after this statement from a Sony spokesperson comes a public demonstration of a PS3 running Linux using – you’ve guessed it: a Wiimote as a mouse. Last week the exact words of Sony were, “We feel very confident that the PlayStation fan is going to wait until they can get a PlayStation 3…If they do pick up a Wii, it’s as more of a novelty”, but as the images from the Binary 2.0 conference 2006 in Japan show, this novelty can now be used on a PS3!

The demonstration shows an ordinary PS3 running Linux using a Wiimote as the pointing device (as opposed to a mouse), with the Wiimote simply plugged into a spare USB port on the PS3 system.

The only modification needed for this operation was a driver to allow the Wiimote to run on Linux and that’s it! The presentation that ensued using the combination of the Wiimote and the PS3 running Linux consisted of a cube background which elegantly moved backward and forward depending on left or right movements by the Wiimote. I personally found it very impressive, especially since the PS3 is supposed to be a gaming device. This proves that it has business potential, too!

Another wii controller type device for PC hacked!

Ages ago, I was toying with the idea of making a DIY in-air PC mouse, and had designed it in my mind. A few days ago I saw the Wii-remote bluetooth PC controller hack and thought that it was good time to throw together my own version. As shown on http://wiihacks.blogspot.com/ the Wii remote has been utilized as a bluetooth remote for the PC/Laptop. My version isn’t as good, as it works over PS/2, and is wired (for now!). But I always find the enjoyment is in developing your OWN firmware for devices as long as it works (messing for 2 days and still not getting it working is the ultimate frustration, luckily didn’t happen).

Today, I was able to get a sneak preview of 6 Axis PC USB controller made by
Garrett from scratch.
It looks really cool, kinda like the Nintendo Wii controller and the PS3 controller.
He used a CUBLOC 405 module, accelerometer, and an unknown USB controller.
Garrett says he will have a howto very soon, so keep checking over the next couple
days for the 6 axis controller. It’s not wireless yet but that should be the easy part.
Here’s some pictures I took although Garrett told me not to. (Sorry Garrett,
it’s way too cool!)

Poor Man’s Choice of Game – Wii, half price and double the fun over PS3

Nintendo Wii is definitely more fun than PS3, it has a lot more user activity going on
than a simple joystick. Even though the PS3 does have its 6-axis controller, Nintendo
Wii can be bought for half the price for double the fun.

Even Sony states that there are going to make the PS4 more like the Wii, which will
come out in year 2010!!??!!

Perhaps PS3 smashings were foreshadowing the fact that Nintendo Wii is the ultimate
winner in the Game arena, at least subconsiously so.
Personally, I like the Wii more because of its cost
and cool joysticks you can play with.
Well, I wouldn’t mind having both of them if you ask me though.

We’ve received word that a respected member of our tech community, James Kim (whom many of you may know as CNET’s senior editor of digital audio), and his family have gone missing. As we understand it, last weekend James, his wife Kati (above right), and his very young girls Penelope (left) and Sabine (baby), drove from their home in the SF Bay Area to Seattle. They were expected back some time Sunday, but were last seen by a hotel clerk at 5:45 PM on Saturday in or between Gold Beach or Portland, Oregon. We sincerely do hope they are all safe, and our hearts go out to the Kim family.

Hackaday found some cool stuff after their sushi thanksgiving party, well I gotta give that a try
next year. You can always refer to Make’s HOWTO on sushi for sushi lovers.

Talking about sushi, if you live in San Francisco, you gotta check out Oyaji’s Restaurant. It’s run by
a Japanese chef, Hideki, who’s from Japan. He’s got some awesome fresh sushi.

Anyways, getting back to the hackaday story, here’s some cool ps3 grills you can make if you want
to make it super geeky instead of buying one from George Foreman. Well actually my friend did
have a george foreman grill and the steaks ended up nice.

Yes, we are getting hungry again although we just ate, we will have to add cooking category to our
categories soon…
Okay, anyways again, getting back to the original cool stuff from Hackaday, here it is:

You better checkout wii smashings too if you haven’t already…

We’ll be the first to admit that the whole “smash this object” craze is getting a tad out of hand, but the latest rendition of demolishing a perfectly functional PlayStation 3 is just revolting. While we’ve witnessed Nintendo’s Wii being cautiously dissected and publicly mangled, a couple of mountain men (and their canine companions) decided to take their newly purchased 60GB PS3 to the woodshed. After rambling about and capturing their mountaineer lifestyle in perfect fashion, they decide to crush the box with a large chunk of timber, only to make matters worse by busting out the ole hacksaw. Further abuse was bestowed care of a gas-powered chainsaw, and for the finale, it was set ablaze to cheers of evil laughter. While the motive here is certainly clear, and the tools used to inflict punishment are indeed respectable, you’d think someone willing to trash $600 (not to mention to probable near-death experience trying to acquire one) would actually show the PS3 within the box. But alas, no “real” proof is ever shown, so be sure to peep the YouTube vid after the break and chuckle at this glaring oversight.

HACK – Hacking the PS3

There are way to hack the PS3 via Linux:

You can now dump your BlueRay images into ISO format using Linux on your Playstation 3. All that is required to drop the images onto your 60GB hard drive is to run the following command “dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/imagename.img”. So far there is no way to play your backed up games, but this is a good start.

Well if you get further into hacking the PS3, you can always create a dual boot system.

Linux seems to prove itself as a good hacking tool for any system although we are still really “hacking” and there is no retail Linux solutions.

we wanted to run windows apps, we’d just rather use wine. But we give a thumbs

So my friends waited 30 hours at the SF Sony Metreon to get this PS3. Well the good news is that we got our hands on one and checked it out. It seems like the new 6 Axis controller looks exactly like a PS2 controller, except it’s wireless. Well, let the party keep rollin’ ! We made some custom long island ice teas and relaxed while playing some Wii and PS3… Well, at the next party, we will let you know so you can reserve a seat.

I have heard that a PS3 on ebay has been sold for almost $10,000 but a picture sold for $1000???
This is absurd yet it is true that PS3 is really taking over our world. What to do next is up to you,
but tonight, zedomax crew will actually get to enjoy playing some PS3 games, yes, we have a PS3!
Well, actually we are renting it for one night but, that’s good enough for us, we will have to buy one
when all the craze slows down a little…

Here’s a cool video of Sony’s new PS3 6 Axis Remote-Controller, it seems like they have taken all parts of our DIYs including bluetooth controller, the accelerometer, and a joystick to make it a complete remote-control system.

We now have a good idea, maybe we will just make our own 6 axis Joystick bluetooth controller… What are your thoughts? Leave a comment!

I just thought I would let you guys know, not only do I have Fedora Core 5 for PPC installed on my Playstation 3, but I actually ran through the boot loader and demonstrated how it works, whilst simultaneously video capturing the results. I edited it a little bit to reduce redundant frames (frames of just watching a cursor flash) so the whole thing comes in just over 3 minutes
