Here’s an awesome NES hack that involves a retro-NES controller hacked as an NES USB Flash drive, also with added NES security that can only be unlocked using the NES controller itself, how brilliant!

At first, I simply wanted to turn the controller into a flash drive and be one of the thousands of videos and blogs of people turning everyday objects into external memory, but ever since I got my first arduino working, I’ve been itching to do something different. I thought, wouldn’t it be cool to add a security feature that required someone to enter the classic contra “30 lives” code before they could access the data?

Here’s a great way to add your own DIY NES arcade machine to your home, make one yourself!

Inside is an old PC and a 17″ LCD monitor. The back of the cabinet has two USB ports and two NES controller ports. You can connect regular, un-modded NES controllers and play with those or use the joystick and buttons on the control panel.

The front end is a simple VB program that auto loads when the PC boots. You never need to connect a mouse or keyboard to load your games. The VB program gives a list of games installed. Using the joystick, you can select the game you want to play.

Sometimes you hear gamers complaining about their games controllers, like the latest controllers, for certain game consoles may not be as great as the older versions might have been. Wal-Mart are teaming up with e-Play who will provide machines or kiosks in their stores in the North-eastern States, currently there are seventy seven machines at various locations in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

All the user does is takes the game to the kiosk and can the bar code on the machine, this will generate a quote that the user either accepts or rejects. If the consumer accepts the quote then they simply insert the disc into the machine, then in about two to three days time the money is credited to the seller’s credit card.

Nintendo Hack – How to Convert your PowerGlove into a Wiimote-like Thang!

Do you remember when the first Nintendo PowerGlove came out? It was like the tightest game controller ever.

Well, nowdays “nobody” uses a PowerGlove but here’s a guy who hacked it, added an accelerometer, and now functional just like a Wiimote, or maybe even better.

Over the past month, I’ve done just that. I stripped the guts out of an original Power Glove, replaced the ultrasonic sensors with an accelerometer, the proprietary microcontroller with an open-source Arduino, and the wired connection with Bluetooth. I wrote an input manager to get the data into Unity, and hooked it up to the boxing game Adam and I are making for iPhone, Touch KO. What’s more, I’ve documented the whole process so that you can make you own!

The first one is the Xbox 360, this weighs in at 7 oz and is made from Shea butter and scented with mountain dew fragrance oil, these sell for $12. Or alternatively, you want to go the retro route with the NES controller, it has the colours and shape. However, is made with gray cocoa butter with the scent of sandalwood and it is yours for $9.

This may look like a controller for the Wii, but in fact, this games controller is being prepared for the Xbox 360 and the PS3, looks like that these remote type devices are finally catching on with other games consoles at last.

These controllers called the Freedom, gives the user an idea of how the Wii player has to react to game play. They do all of the same movements of course it is down the user experience to see if this is going to be any good at all, and the sort of games that are going to be available now and in the future.

This takes us back to the late eighties and early nineties when Nintendo first brought the Game Boy out this was a revolutionary games console and in fact, Tetris was one of the better games that came out for the device.

Of course, kids of today are likely to think that the Game Boy and the Tetris game are rubbish, and they probably are compared with the games that they get these days for the Xbox 360 and other games consoles. Here’s a fun hack that uses a Nintendo controller, Arduino, and CD drive to create a fun, keyless entry system.

Use a Classic Nintendo controller to lock and unlock your door! The output from the Controller is read by an arduino and it looks for a particular combination of buttons, once the combination is entered it sends a signal to eject a Cd-Rom Drive which pushes or pulls the lock. I started making this project like I always do; with what I have on hand. So if you have the same stuff lying around it can be assembled for very little cost.

Here’s a really cool NES Hack that involves installing an alarm clock inside the SNES. Of course, you can even use the joystick to set the time, which gets double-whammy thumbs up.

Our story begins with the gutting of the SNES and the desoldering of the cartridge connector and reset switch from the mainboard. To my great surprise and greater fortune, the cartridge connector’s pins were precisely the same pitch as the through-holes for the display ribbon on the alarm clock, and on top of that, the display required 23 connections, which is exactly the size of one side of the middle part of the connector. Display out, cartridge connector in, very smooth. A little dremel work, and a nice shrouded polarized 2-prong AC connector, which I happened to have a cable for, went nicely into what was the “multi out” port.

Check out this cool DIY Nintendo Toaster that encloses the whole Nintendo inside itself. What I like most about this project is the toaster pop-out function works for the NES cartridges while the toaster LED turns on if the game is on.

I had an awful lot of people suggesting that my previous project (the Super Genintari/Leviticus) looked like a toaster. I then discovered that I had an extra NES and toaster laying around and knew what had to be done.

Ripped all the main guts out of the toaster and replaced them with an NES board, some orange LEDs, AC adapter and controller ports. Kept the front lever functional as the main power on/off switch and the crumb tray just for fun. Composite audio/video jacks are on the rear of the unit. The temperature knob does nothing.

Here’s a cool homebrewed level for Super Mario World. Of course, you can play the Kaizo Mario on your computer or make your own levels like in this video.

Kaizo Mario is a homebrew level for Super Mario World that’s equal parts evil and genius. My tolerance for frustration isn’t nearly high enough to be able to handle this, but for those of you looking for a gaming challenge, there’s a link to the ROM below.

You can make your own custom levels for Super Mario World with a graphical level editor called Lunar Magic. You’ll need a Windows PC and the original SNES Super Mario World ROM to use it. If you come up with anything you’d like to share, please add it to the comments.

That’s a NES cartridge and a harmonica. I think you know where this is going. This is going exactly where the intersection of nostalgia and commercialism should have gone like ten freaking years ago. I’ve googled all sorts of combinations like “NES harmonica” and “nintendo harmonica” and “NES cartridge instrument” and I can’t find anything like this. Everybody talks about blowing on the game like a harmonica, but as far as I know I’m the first person on the Internet to actually use a harmonica.
