Dad's Cab Taxi Meter for Making Money Off Your Kids!

Dad

Check out Dad’s Cab Taxi Meter that will let you charge your kids for any free “rides” they take from you in the form of cleaning dishes, mowing the lawn, and other household tasks.

Although I think this gadget is pretty pointless, the fact that it’s so pointless makes it funny to use.  It’s so ridiculous, it’s cool!

Gifts for dads don’t come much better than this Gift of the Year Award winner, Dad’s Cab. Dad’s Cab is a novelty taxi meter that comes with an assortment of forfeit cards that overworked dads can dish out to their blood-sucking children by way of a bill. Payments include ingenious tasks like ‘tidy your room’ and ‘make dad a cup of tea’ – that’s no more free rides for the kids and some well-deserved rewards for dad!

Check out these guys (Yes, the pink and green hair are wigs) who made a WoW (World of Warcraft) Treadmill.

I remember when WoW first came out, it was cool but took way long to play so I gave up early on it.  Well, honestly, I rather hit golf balls than play video games.

(But yes, get me started and I will probably wind up on the top of gamers list and also have to go to Gamerholics Anonymous)

“We bought extremely cheap manual treadmills off of Amazon and decided to sense their speed with a mouse rather than trying to hook into the treadmill’s output with some sort of analog interface. I wrote a quick script in GlovePIE to calculate the maximum speed my mouse could track. It’s a nice MX Revolution, but I could only get it to track a little over 4mph. If we were going to run at 12mph on the treadmill, a mouse wouldn’t be able to keep up. We decided to use a bicycle tire pushed against the treadmill to reduce the speed the mouse would have to track. Eli used a 26″ tire and tried to get the sensor about 1.8 inches from the axle so we could make sure to get the full range of speeds. I wrote another script in GlovePIE to convert the mouse speed to “w” pulses. So the faster we ran on the treadmill, the faster and longer the “w” would be pressed.”

Redneck FORD (Fuck-over-Rebuilt-Dodge) Caravan

Posted in A+Featured Auto, Auto, Cars, Consumer, Cool, Design, Entertainment, Funny, Gadgets by max on the August 25th, 2008 at 10:11 am

One of my closest redneck friends always used to say that FORD stood for “Fucked-Up-Rebuilt-Dodge”.

Well, here’s a FORD Caravan.

Allow us to officially introduce the Car Camel. Apparently plying the highways of Ontario, Canada, it’s a shortened minivan with a car hauler stuck to its backside. It ain’t pretty, and it probably ain’t too fast, but we have to admit that it is pretty neat… if you’re into that kind of thing. Have a look at the gallery of images below, but if any of you get the idea to make a Car Koala… please, don’t. Thanks for the tip, Zak!

iPhone Illusions with this funny walking Alien App!

Posted in A+Featured Entertainment, Consumer, Cool, Educational, Entertainment, Funny, Gadgets, cell phones, iPhone, iPhone 3G by max on the August 24th, 2008 at 5:52 am

Here’s a slight illusionary work with the iPhone, a funny walking Alien App.

Created by David O’Reilly, iHologram combines anamorphosis and the iPhone’s gyroscopes to achieve this awesome visual magic trick. Anamorphosis is a way to draw things distorted so, while watched at a certain angle, they pop out of the 2D surface as if they were real.

David’s application assumes a constant viewing angle of 35 to 45 degrees, which is the usual angle when anyone watches the iPhone screen. Knowing that angle, the application calculates the orientation of the screen relative to the viewer using the iPhone’s motion sensors, so when you turn it around, the 3D world perspective gets skewed accordingly.

Cardboard Wings and parts for Better Aerodynamics!

I honestly don’t believe using cardboard for auto aerodynamics will ever work but this one does look ridiculously funny and had to post it.

Kip Kay from Makezine shows you how to hack a “Toilet Paper Launcher”.

Of course, this is probably illegal if you launch TPs at your neighbors house but it might be a great way to cover your friend’s house with lots of Toilet Paper at graduation or his/her birthday.

DIY - How to Make a Human Hand Stick Shifter for your Car!

DIY - How to Make a Human Hand Stick Shifter for your Car!

Do you have a manual stick-shift car?  Then, you might want to look into building your own Human Hand Stick Shifter and do lots of high fives everytime you drive.

I think few people who drive manual transmission cars actively think about driving as controlling a gigantic machine moving with a lot of momentum, via a huge rod that goes directly through the floor and moves a set of meshing teeth around in an engine that’s actually running. It’s one of the few places today where you’re moving mechanical bits around in a real machine. So the idea behind the hand is to remember that you’re working with the car to make it move, sort of holding the car’s hand.
