Are you kidding me? iPhone cake for a wedding? Well, actually, it might be a good idea to highlight things as iPhone GUI icons on your wedding day. For this couple, they listed stuff like Texas A&M, must be where they went to college together and met.

If you run out of ideas for your wedding cake, now you know there’s a good alternative, the iPhone Wedding Cake! hahaha, I wonder how much they spent on the cake though, must be pretty darn expensive. I would say around $1000 at least, what do you think?

Food Hack – How to Make Sukiyaki!

Sukiyaki is a Japanese Beef stew filled with vegetables such as mushrooms, cabbage, and more plus some noodles of your choice. My mom used to make a bunch of this as Sukiyaki great for eating while cooking the stew itself with a portable burner.

Every once in awhile, I make this too.

First, you will want to make the soup, simply boil some water and add about 1/4 cup of soy sauce, maybe couple teaspoons of sake and sugar until the soup tastes just right. If you have had Sukiyaki at a Japanese restaurant, you will know what to do here.

After making the soup, bring the pot to about medium and start adding some of your favorite vegetables. You can get kinda creative here as Sukiyaki will take almost any kind of vegetables and make it into delicious, edible food.

Also start adding some noodles and thin slices of beef. (For the best slices of beef, head to your local Korean/Japanese market, they should have super-thin slices that will cook literally within seconds of dumping it in the Sukiyaki pot.)

You don’t have to add everything in the beginning, try to keep adding a little bit of everything when you run out. And yes, it tastes best if you try to eat while cooking, you can buy a cheap portable burner for like $20-30. I wouldn’t recommend trying to make Sukiyaki then eating it, you are not going to have as much “fresh” taste and that’s not the point of Sukiyaki. Well, if it’s just for one person, you, that might be okay though.

This quickly prepared jam calls for smaller amounts of fruit and sugar. Cooking it in a wide pan speeds up the gelling process, so no pectin is needed. The jam has a soft set, a bright color and a full fruit flavor. It is just right for spooning onto toast or muffins, but may not be stiff enough for a peanut butter sandwich.

Whipped cream is probably the single most important cream thingee when it comes to eating pumpkin pie. (for me) Without whipped cream, pumpkin pie wouldn’t taste like a pumpkin pie.

According to WikiHow:

“Whipped cream” from a can is neither whipped nor cream. Whip up the real thing yourself either by hand or with an electric mixer, and the fresh taste will keep you from ever going back to the spray-on variety.

Does that mean all that nitrous oxide you have been inhaling isn’t from a real whipped cream? Probably, not only does “real” whipped cream really “whipped”, there’s no side-additives like nitrous oxide to make you feel all bloated and high.

Well, I think 350 degrees at 60 minutes is the best way although you can do something like 400 degrees at 30 minutes.

The first time I encountered Pesto sauce was while working at Pizza Hut back in high school. Ever since then, I have been addicted to the taste of a Pesto pizza. It’s probably one of the best sauce alternative to regular tomato sauce used for pizzas.

Anyways, someone at Instructables has written an extensive tutorial on exactly how to make this pesto sauce. I don’t know what else it’s good for but I know it’s pretty healthy sauce so you should try it next time with some bread or even pizza if you know how to make pizza.

Serve it on pasta, with eggs, with cheese, on crackers, with chicken or fish, worked into pasta or tortillas or with just about anything else that needs fantastic flavor. I recently ate some marinated artichoke hearts that had been tossed in pesto – they were excellent.

Believe it or not, the guys over at About.com show you the “right way” to crack on egg by cracking it on a flat surface instead of edge of a bowl like how I do it.

It’s interesting to note that some people probably don’t know even how to do that yet.

Don’t worry, if worse comes to worse, use my method is to crack the whole egg and use the shell too like Nick Vujicic, I am sure shell has some great protein.

But in short, it’s best to crack an egg on a flat surface like a cutting board, not on the edge of a bowl. Why? Because cracking an egg on the edge of a bowl can drive any bacteria or other contaminants on the shell’s surface into the egg itself. Cracking an egg on a flat surface is less likely to do that.

Well, if there’s a DIY Ramen Robot, we also need to learn how to make one.

My dad used to live in Japan for couple years as a college exchange student. Without further saying, my dad knows Japanese culture and food very well, even speaks Japanese fluently. Well, he’s favorite Japanese food is Japanese-style ramen. He used to tell me all these stories about how Japanese ramen (in Japan) is the best ramen in the world, and that’s coming from a Korean man, it means a lot.

Anyways, here’s how to make Japanese-style ramen from scratch, thanks to youtube. (Okay, the narrator is speaking sorta broken English but I do enjoy the dog.)

DIY Robot Ramen Replaces Chef in Japan!

Here’s an interesting story of a ramen-making DIY robot that can make up to 40 million different flavors of ramen. As an avid eater of Korean and Japanese ramen, this is the most perfect idea for making ramen as robots can do them flawlessly, there’s no reason why anyone ever needs chefs for ramen anymore.

The ramen-making robot was built by 60-year-old shop owner Yoshihira Uchida, who spent about 20 million yen on its construction. Customers can place their orders on a computer in the shop, customizing various aspects such as the levels of soy sauce, salt, and richness of the soup. Uchida says there are 40 million different flavor permutations.

The noodles themselves are cooked by a human, with the robot creating a perfectly blended soup which is then delivered to the human chef via a conveyor belt, who adds the noodles and toppings. The whole process takes only about two minutes, a minute shorter than instant cup noodles. Prices of ramen per bowl are 500 yen for regular size and 300 yen for small size.

Iron Skillet DIY – How to Season your Cast Iron Skillet!

If you happened to own a cast-iron skillet like me, you will want to “season” the iron skillet every once in awhile to get the iron skillet perfect and ready for your next delicious meal. Apartment Therapy has some great pics and instructions on how to do that which isn’t too hard considering all you really do is put some vegetable oil on the skillet and “bake” it in your oven.

1. Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees.
2. Wash skillet with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly.
3. Apply a thin coat of vegetable oil, or vegetable shortening with a paper towel on all surfaces, inside and out.
4. Place in oven on center rack, upside down. Place a baking sheet or a sheet of foil on the rack beneath to catch drippings.
5. Bake for an hour, then turn off heat, open door, and allow to cool inside oven before removing.
6. Skillet is now ready to use.

For the most healthy, home-cooked meals, you might want to consider getting a real cast-iron skillet as I have been using one for about a year now. The best part about cast-iron skillets is that they can handle high-heat, perfect for pre-cooking steaks before you put them in the oven.

As for health point-of-view, the iron-skillets might give off little scraps of iron that is actually great for your human body, unlike DuPont-coated non-iron skillets that can cause cancer among other things if that coat gets scraped off somehow.

One thing you have to be careful is to not use any detergent when cleaning cast-iron skillets. Even though it’s harder to maintain a cast-iron skillet, I’d say it’s definitely worth it for the awesome hashbrowns, omelettes, steaks, shrimps, you name it! Sorta heavy though, great workout your arms…

The future of food preparation

The chances of someone coming up with a replicator to produce food is pretty remote, but it seems that in the future we will still have to prepare food in the usual manner, it is just the way that we will cook it, that is going to change.

This concept uses three harmless lasers that are directed at the centre of the device, it is assumed that just one laser is enough to be able to cook something, so therefore three coming in from different angles is going to cook it better and faster. There is one point though and that is if these are harmless lasers how comes the device can cook food!
