Here’s a fun little DIY with high powered LEDs.

Now by the time that you start talking about blinking the high power LEDs– you shouldn’t be surprised if people start whipping out the heavy artillery: 555 timer chips, transistors, boost converters, microcontrollers, solid state relays, and/or dedicated LED driver chips. While each of those does have its place, sometimes it’s nice to have a simpler and much less expensive alternative.

DIY - How to Make a Light Bulb Oil Lamp!

Here’s a great way to re-use your old light bulbs and turn them into oil lamps for your pleasures.  It does look dangerous though if you cracked the light bulb and the oil starts spilling out everywhere…  wait a minute, that’d cause some serious fires!

This instructable covers the entire process, from a new light bulb to a new lamp. It includes the hollowing out of the bulb. However, you’ll need to come up with your own base for the lamp.

DIY - How to Make an Etching Tank With Aquarium Pump And Heater!

Check out this cool DIY on how to make your own etching tank with an aquariam pump and heater!

I wanted to build an etching tank since i first saw one in an article on Make Blog. It was fun to make it and it will sure speed-up my PCB making process. The main thing that i wanted to achieve with my etching tank was to keep it thin so it holds up smaller amounts of etchant, it’s better this way because i need to store and work with smaller quantities. My finished tank holds 1,5 L of liquid when full.

Here’s an interesting DIY light bar controller that might interest your weekend hacking desires.

This device analyses the music it picks up via the electret microphone, then flashes the LEDs in time to the music. It’s encased in the box SparkFun sent me the microphones in, since the box was just begging to be used as a case for something! I’m sure that was intentionally designed.

DIY Automated RC Cars with Ultrasonic Sensors can Drift…

Here’s a neat DIY of automated RC cars that detect the walls and automatically (sorta) drift.  If applied to real cars, this could be a great way to save lots of human lives in the future.

The car-chase was made by holding a camera on a stick, chasing the cars around. Some clips where made by placing the camera on a record-player. All editing was done in the standard “free” program that comes with a Mac, called iMovie. It is a nice program for light editing.. but phew, it was pushed to make this

DIY Wifi Gun Shooting Camera Tank Robot!

Here’s a really cool robot that can supposedly shoot some rounds of ammo and has a video transmitter.

We didn’t load the gun with any ammo because we were in a school lab filled with faculty, you can still see the gun recoiling when you instruct it to fire. Ill get a video of it firing real rounds soon, its pretty intense (like scary intense, that thing will leave some serious bruises on you).
