It is curved and very sci-fi, in fact it could be the inside of an alien spacecraft or just a hotel, but why is all of the ornate design on the inside!

As a former nightclub-addict who has been practically to every nightclub in San Francisco and Las Vegas, I have to say this Lightfade LED floor might be perfect for nightclubs where clubbers can enjoy dancing and matching footprint fades. Boy, would I love to install these in my future home someday, I can have a party in my house!

When a pedestrian walks across Rogier Sterk’s interactive light floor, his or her weight displaces fluid contained within the panel system, leaving “light prints” for about one minute after contact. With the World Games going to Taiwan this year, they have really gone to town on building a stadium that can truly compete with the Olympic Stadium in Beijing, this stadium is truly a work of art that has the look of a sleeping dragon, its scales being individual solar panels.

The stadium itself has been built in good time at a cost of £150 million; the stadium has over eight thousand, eight hundred solar panels covering a space of over fourteen thousand square metres. These panels will generate around eighty per cent of the stadiums energy requirements.

For anyone who knows, it will be obvious. However, there are people out in the world who do not like sci-fi, Bruce Willis or both for these are the four elemental stones guarded over the centuries on earth until the time came when they would be needed, from the blockbuster movie The Fifth Element.

These stones are actually good replicas and would look great if displayed together, of course you have no chance of finding the all important fifth element, which is impossible, unless they make a replica one of those.

The fact is that we are all going to die, how we die not many have the knowledge of that, but how we go is just one of the things that we can demand as a final send off. Some people are keen on an eco friendly funeral whereas other people are interested in other themed funerals.

However, for Star Trek fans, there is only one to go, and that is with the Photon Torpedo casket, it comes fully loaded with star fleet logos etc, and for those who are wanting to be cremated then there is the star fleet urn, which is just as good but a lot smaller.

Eco-Friendly KFC-Taco Bell Branch Opened!

Two of my favorite fast-foods are KFC and Taco Bell. I usually like to order 20 hot wings, corn-on-the-cob, and a large cole-slaw at KFC while I stick to like 5-6 regular tacos for Taco Bell.

Well, the news is that one of the KFC-Taco Bell branches are going “green”. Way too cool, I will be eating more KFC and Taco Bell for sheezy.

The restaurant is designed according to environmental goals that include cutting energy and water consumption by 30 percent and reducing CO2 emissions. Operations at the new site are also expected to reduce waste and the amount of rubbish sent to landfills; the restaurant composts and recycles other waste, grease and used cooking oil. The company is seeking certification for the restaurant based on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environment Design standards.

I’ve seen a rise of homes made with used shipping containers and I have to say, this “was” a redneck practice that has turned into a great way for architects to develop new self-sustaining, green homes. Now, you will have to just buy a lot of acres of land and move your home (containers) to where ever you want to be.

The best examples that explain his creativity are the Bunny Lane, his own home built with a 19th century clapboard cottage inside an industrial hanger, and the Push Button House, which takes just 90 seconds to expand to reveal a five-room home.

Capital Gate Tower is the Worlds Most Crooked Building in the World!

Developers in Abu Dhabi have made so much money on oil crisis, they are building the World’s Most Crooked Building that is 4 times more crooked than the previous record holder, the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

It doesn’t surprise me though, it’s about time modern architecture proves to be somewhat better than stuff that were built over a century ago. Not that I don’t like the Leaning Tower but it’s always great to have something new and better.

I just hope this Capital Gate Tower lasts more than a century like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Otherwise, it’s not really worth it.

As Construction of Capital Gate continues ADNEC, the developers, and RMJM, the project’s architects, have submitted a joint application to the Guinness Book of Records to recognise the tower as the ‘most inclined in the world’.

The 35 storey gravity defying feature tower will lean westward 18 degrees, 4 times as far as the Leaning Tower of Pisa which currently leans 3.97 degrees.

Because of its unique posture, Capital Gate is being constructed on top of an incredibly dense mesh of reinforced steel. The dense mesh sits above an intensive distribution of 490 piles which have been drilled 30 metres underground to accommodate the gravitational, wind and seismic pressures caused by the lean of the building. Features of the tower include 728 unique custom-made diamond-shaped glazing panels that due to the structure’s curving shape, will be will be fitted at a slightly different angle.

Dubai seems to always spark the public’s interest with things like the tallest buidling in the world.

Well, here’s another great idea that might make it to production, an eco-friendly self-sustaining pyramid that can house 1 million people.

The size of the pyramid should be huge but shouldn’t be a hard task for Dubaians who are already building the tallest building in the world.

The Mayans and Egyptians constructed incredible feats of architecture able to weather the test of time, but they had no idea their pyramids would inspire the shape of the latest carbon-neutral super-structure to hit Dubai. Dubai-based environmental design firm Timelinks recently released some eye-catching renderings of the gigantic eco pyramid – aptly named Ziggurat – with plans for its official unveiling scheduled for the Cityscape Dubai event which runs October 6-9 of this year. The ginormous pyramid will cover 2.3 square kilometers and will be able to sustain a “community” of up to 1 million.

It looks like styrofoam could be used for making future homes as they provide a flexible enough structure to hold up against earthquakes while being strong enough to encase a dome.

Heck, I would want one too so long as peeping Tom’s don’t live in my neighborhood.

Made with 7-inch-thick 100% expanded polystyrene foam modules, the company says that they don’t have the maintenance problems of wood or metal structures, and they are “highly resistant” to earthquakes, fires, and typhoons. Still, the 480 domes at Aso Farm Land resort village in Kyushu look like a suburban community on Mos Eisley’s outskirts or a world from Myst.

Flare facade, is a living outer skin for any building. Composed of individual 3-D triangulars, these things can individually controlled via a computer to create some really amazing animation effects without the use of LEDs and electricity. (Pic and Video after the jump)

Perhaps, if they put a solar cell on each of these blocks, you will get a super-controllable sustainable energy for the building. Kill 2 stones with 1 bird. (haha…)

The FLARE system consists of a number of tiltable metal flake bodies supplemented by individually controllable pneumatic cylinders.

Check out this awesome eco-friendly Cedar House, entirely made from sustainable Cedar wood, cutting down on carbon footprint as much as possible.

Of course, maybe not intended, but this house probably is the most moth-repelling in the world as cedar is commonly used for repelling moths that can eat your clothes. (Personally, I find moths very appealing and they are pretty smart. I made a lot of moth friends last summer, too bad the weather’s too cold for them this summer)

Created for an old couple, the Onigiri House was designed to maximize volume and limit cost while seamlessly integrating into its environs. It’s name stems from its structural reference to Onigiri, a Japanese snack made by forming rice into a triangular or oval shape and then wrapping it in nori.

The triangular tube is constructed entirely of cedar that was sustainably harvested from local sources. NKS Architects chose a type of cider wood that made the region famous for its application in shipbuilding, cutting down on the home’s carbon footprint by negating material transportation costs. The interior spaces are suffused with light and well ventilated thanks to large windows located at each end, and an elevated platform protects the home from the region’s occasional flooding.

Here’s a 730 Ton Damper Ball that keeps Taipei 101 building in Taiwan stable, even during the Chinese earthquake as shown in the video.

Here’s how it keeps it stable:

What’s interesting about the 101 is that it has a gigantic suspended tuned mass damper, or hanging ball, which takes up four stories and works like this to prevent the building from falling over and tragically crushing office workers. This 730 ton sphere looks intimidating when still, but wait until you see it in motion during the earthquake.

I’ve seens some impressive media walls that does animation in Korea couple years ago but this, this is amazing that it runs on solar power!

The polycrystalline photovoltaic cells are laminated within the glass of the curtain wall and placed with changing density on the entire building’s skin. The density pattern increases building’s performance, allowing natural light when required by interior.

Holy crap, check out this house. It’s 5 story house with each story about 8 feet wide. I would feel claustrophobic living in this house. Neverthless, it’s a beautiful, creative design great for metropolitan cities like San Francisco or New York.

Four wooden floors between two existing walls, hanging in a steel skeleton, organize this house: downstairs for work, dining on 1st, relaxing on 2nd, sleeping on 3rd, and on the roof, go and enjoy the view.

The border to the outside is only glass. Transparency not only a necessity, but also a trump card.
