Super Mario Brothers Car in Russia!

Posted in Cars, Consumer, Cool, Entertainment by max on the May 18th, 2008

Super Mario Brothers Car!

Check out this beautiful super mario brothers car! You will need to be an old-school NES fan like me to appreciate such artwork.

Even better, would someone come up with a “playable” super mario bros car?

..it’s the amazingly accurate and detailed Mario paint job. The mural contains Goombas, pipes, coins, blocks, red-shelled Koopas and of course, Mario-himself

Interactive Windows

Here’s an interesting “interactive window” concept Denmark is working on….

We’ve seen all sorts hip-cool interactive window installations, usually comprised of a camera for a modicum of interactivity and a projector or a display for screening the results. The Salling store in Arhus, Denmark is taking things a bit further and making the window itself interactive. There’s still a camera to sense motion, but instead of a display there’s some fancy window tech that makes sections of the glass transparent or not based on where the person is standing. Sure, the idea of having to walk up to a window and wave your arms around to reveal what’s behind it might seem a bit counter-intuitive, but at least it’ll give the loiterers something to do.

Got Dirty Paint Work? Get the “rugged” iKey Membrane Keyboard!

Posted in Computer, Computer Keyboard, Consumer, Cool, Design, Gadgets, Industrial by max on the May 18th, 2008

Whenever I goto Home Depot, I see their paint department using a regular old keyboard with paint all over it.  My bet is that they have to replace the keyboard every other month.  For dirty jobs like that where you will get a lot of dirt or paint on the keyboard, iKey’s Membrane Keyboard will fit perfect as it’s rugged and also comes with a nice rugged touchpad.

The new DT-5K-MEM-TP is an industrial membrane keyboard built to withstand the harshest of environments. Modeled after iKey’s popular 5K product line, this keyboard is manufactured with a hardcoated, textured polyester film that is more rugged than industrial silicone rubber keypads. The mechanical, snap-dome keys provide excellent tactile feedback. The integrated Synaptics touchpad is completely sealed under an extra layer of PVC membrane, which extends the life of the product. Since this keyboard lacks the crevices found between the keys of a regular keyboard, it is extremely durable and easy to clean. The DT-5K-MEM-TP is NEMA 4X certified, which means it can withstand directed hose water, disinfectants, environmental contaminants and heavy industrial use.

Microwaved CD!

Microwaved CD!

I always wanted to microwave some CDs and see what’d happen but I guess this guy did it so you can enjoy the results!

Since microwaves came along, I have always had fantasies about putting odd objects in and seeing the reactions. This is probably one of the most interesting experiements. Putting the CD in the oven and waiting for the reaction. Warning: Do not try this at home!

DIY HACK - How to Make a Solar Powered DC Welder!

DIY HACK - How to Make a Solar Powered DC Welder!

Remember my post on how to make a DC Welder powered by a golf cart? Well, these guys must be golfers and must own a golf course. (or at least work at a golf course.)

Now, they figured out a way to power their batteries with a big solar panel on top of the golf cart. Now the question is, can you still drive the golf cart? This might actually be a lot more practical if they could make the golf cart solar powered.

These panels charge the cart at about 3 amps. Welding or driving draws up to 150 amps, but only in short bursts.
To my surprise I have to disconnect the panel after a day or two to keep from overcharging the pack. I probably only charge one day a week. I better add an inverter so I can power my office and other tools from this thing.

Warning:
This thing is so damn cool you’ll smile too much and hurt your face.
I probably should have put the cover back over the batteries before he started welding, cuz batteries can make hydrogen which can go pop.
You’re smart kids, you can figure out other safety warnings for this thing.
