Seamour Sheep Radioactive USB Lamp!

Seamour Sheep Radioactive USB Lamp!

Believe it or not, counting sheeps at night works to help you go to sleep.  (Of course,  there’s always “greener” way to help you sleep too if you know what I mean.)

Check out these Seamour Sheep Radioactive USB LED Lamp that looks, quite frankly, really cute.

You can get one for $69 over at rotofugi.com.  These would make great gifts for anyone including yourself, do you have extra $69 to shell out of your pocket today?

Seamour makes a triumphant return with this “Radioactive” edition. Green LED’s and a USB cable make Seamour glow bright green when he’s on his feet…but tip him over and he goes to sleep and the light goes out. Great functional design! USB cable and removable googles included!

Another Miserable Failure - McCain is a Computer Illiterate!

Posted in Computer, Consumer, Cool, Educational, Entertainment, Funny, Government, Politics, Video by max on the September 12th, 2008 at 11:41 pm

Well it comes to us no surprise that one of the Presidential nominees McCain does not know how to use a computer. (For god sakes he’s 72 years old! Let’s hope he doesn’t have a heart attack before the elections)

If we are going to have a computer-illiterate McCain as President, we might as well have this 102 year old woman who has her own Facebook.

What I don’t understand is that McCain has all the money in the world but doesn’t know how to use the computer???  Even my girlfriend “was” a computer illiterate until she started browsing the web for her favorite celebrities and whatnot.

I don’t mind that you can’t type but for god sakes, at least get one of those voice recognition software.  No wonder all those “you suck” e-mails I sent to McCain never got read.  (Darn!)

Okay, enough for political bashing, I guess I am more for Obama at this point, it was always Hillary or Obama for me anyways, no more republicans in the house plz!

DIY - HOWTO Make a Serial port IR Receiver!

Posted in A+Featured DIYs, Circuits, Computer, Consumer, Cool, Design, DoItYourself!, Educational, Entertainment, Gadgets, HOWTO, Hack, Projects by max on the September 12th, 2008 at 5:32 pm

Here’s a cool DIY on how to make your own serial port IR receiver.

What does it do you ask?

Well, IR receiver can be used for controlling any IR devices or reading from them such as TVs, DVDs, etc…etc…

The best part about this DIY is that it can be used for making your custom DIY media center.

This circuitry allows you to control your computer with a simple remote, like the one you already use for your TV-set. It’s very useful when you want to control a DVD or an mp3 player without having to stay at the keyboard. Please note that this circuit is NOT IrDA compatible and it won’t help you to connect to your mobile phone or whatever IrDA device; it’s only good to control your pc with a standard remote control. I use it for VDR and now my pc is a full featured set top box connected to the television, capable to digitally record and replay satellite television, DVDs and every kind of digital content (mp3, divx). There are many softwares you can install to control this ciruit; for Linux you can use Lirc and for Windows you can use either Winlirc, Girder, IR Assistant or uIRC.

HP shifting focus to Linux in order to get over Vista Unpopularity!

Posted in Business, Computer, Consumer, Cool, Educational, Gadgets, News, Operating System by max on the September 12th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
HP shifting focus to Linux in order to get over Vista Unpopularity!

HP shifting focus to Linux in order to get over Vista Unpopularity!

Well, I am not a big fan of Vista, maybe XP at the least, but here’s another great news that HP might be using Linux to increase sales while not having to deal with Vista’s unpopularity.

If you have noticed, many computer manufacturers including HP, Dell, and others who have been putting the sign, “This company recommends Vista”.

Now, that’s what I don’t get.  How could companies expect to increase computer sales while recommending Vista, an operating system touted to be more incompatible than their previous sibling, Windows XP.

With all that out there, HP is finally shifting its focus to provide fully-installed Linux systems which will save the consumers about $100-200 over Vista.  (That’s right, you no longer have to pay for what you don’t use)

Since Linux OS is free, consumers can pretty much get the Linux version and simply install Windows XP to get going instead of having to deal with Vista’s horrible uninstallation process.

Already, Google has proved the value of Linux operating system through its Android developement.

Mind you, Linux operating system has been developed nicely by the open source crowd for the last 10 years to one day beat out Windows out of the market. Yey!

According to Businesweek, HP has been quietly working on two projects aimed at bypassing unpopular features in Vista and possibly competing with Apple down the line. The first involves developing software that modifies Vista to make it easier to use. That much has been confirmed. However, rumor has it that a second “Skunk Works” operation has been going on behind closed doors that has a much loftier goal—building a customized replacement OS based on the Linux platform.

Advertising FAIL or the new Miserable Failure - Microsoft Ads are Booooring and Vista still Sucks…

Okay, we did get a glimpse of what the $30 Million deal with Jerry Seinfeld will do for Microsoft.

Here’s an obvious answer:

No matter how much you spend and no matter what kind of comedian you hire to whitewash the consumers, Vista is still the same and it simply sucks.

On top of that, these ads are really long and boring, completely opposite Mac ads.  Now, I am not a supporter of Mac of Windows, just someone who has used all that and “knows” Vista does still suck and refuse to do anything with it except write truth about it.

Yes, the truth has been heard, this probably is better than their $30 Million ads.  They should really have stopped at the Vista Mojave Experiment.

If Microsoft really want’s to compete with Apple’s Mac guy and PC guy ads, they’re going to have to realize that their ads can’t just be funny–they have to also give people reasons to use their products, whether that’s through pointing out features that the Mac doesn’t have or talking about Windows Media Center.  I realize that Seinfeld built his career on a show that was “all about nothing”, but that’s not going to work for an advertising campaign.

I know, this is the famous blue screen of death that has been haunting Windows users for the last decade and now it’s being used as part of a background prop for NIN concert.

Yes, Windows is officially crap…watch the video to see the blue screen of death in action although it’s really hard to see. (Jump to 1:04)

Bottle Opener USB Flash Drive!

Bottle Opener USB Flash Drive!

Bottle Opener USB Flash Drive!

Although I rather use a lighter to open a beer bottle, for those of you who don’t smoke, you can get the Bottle Opener USB Flash Drive.

Just make sure you don’t take this to a raving party with tons of people as you might regret lending it to the partier next to you with all that classified data inside the Flash Drive.

The TrekStor USB thumb drive doubles as a bottle opener. Yep, it can store between 1GB and 16GB of data, and it can open up your frosty brews as well. Make it your keychain and you’ll always have whatever data you want with you, be it documents or media files, and you’ll never be searching for a bottle opener again. It makes regular old thumb drives look downright featureless in comparison.
