It seems a life time ago when the Sinclair ZX81 was the considered the height the technology, yet when we think bad there was little that could be done with this machine as this was the pioneering days of personal computing. There was not even a proper market established back them, but we still knew that small unassuming device was the future, we just had to wait for everything to catch it up.

But now it seems that the Sinclair ZX81 is able to perform with the rest of the big boys, according to the making of this Sinclair based PC. Flash Drives go from one extreme to the other these days, on the one hand, there are the ones, which look, respectable and technical, while on the other hand there are those that look funny and strange, you can choose for yourself where you place these guys, but I which group I would put them in.

These hold the standard 2 Gb memory, which is not bad for general use, but if you want to download masses of stuff then you may struggle a bit.

Here’s a nice example of how hackers can easily freeze memory of the computer to retrieve the encryption key.

Abstract Contrary to popular assumption, DRAMs used in most modern computers retain their contents for seconds to minutes after power is lost, even at operating temperatures and even if removed from a motherboard. Although DRAMs become less reliable when they are not refreshed, they are not immediately erased, and their contents persist sufficiently for malicious (or forensic) acquisition of usable full-system memory images. We show that this phenomenon limits the ability of an operating system to protect cryptographic key material from an attacker with physical access. We use cold reboots to mount attacks on popular disk encryption systems — BitLocker, FileVault, dm-crypt, and TrueCrypt — using no special devices or materials. We experimentally characterize the extent and predictability of memory remanence and report that remanence times can be increased dramatically with simple techniques. We offer new algorithms for finding cryptographic keys in memory images and for correcting errors caused by bit decay. Though we discuss several strategies for partially mitigating these risks, we know of no simple remedy that would eliminate them.

BRISBANE: Flash memory company, Microdia, launched its new business in Australia with a world-first 64 GB compact flash card shown first at PMA — the Microdia XTRA ELITE CF card has a 45 MBS data transfer rate and can store up to a claimed 19,000 photos.

Microdia founder and CEO, Louis Leung, said that it specifically chose the PMA expo in Australia to launch the new card as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to the local market as well as a showcase of its credentials.

“We have only been in Australia for a matter of weeks, and decided the best way to demonstrate our capabilities and intent to offer the world’s best flash memory products here was to launch this product at Australia’s leading professional photography trade show, PMA.”

Although a new brand to the Australian market, Leung pointed out that his company has an established track record in memory technology.

“As a new brand to Australia, but as the world’s second largest flash memory company — in terms of production capacity — with a 17 year history, globally launching the 64GB CF card in Australia at PMA will give us tremendous early momentum in this market.”

Microdia’s claim that the 64GB card can store up to 19,000 high resolution photos is based on a 20 megapixel camera taking jpeg images.

I almost worked for Hynix, a semiconductor company in Korea, but their job descriptions were all boring and you had to work in the rural part of Korea. Mind you, I love big cities, I hate suburban areas, just my personality type. I stuck out in the busiest part of Seoul and lived a block away from like 100 bars, 20 nightclubs, and etc…etc… Yes, it was a lot of fun, I got hideously drunk and did get to poke around some stuff… Okay, maybe this is too much personal information, just go take a bong rip and you can forget what I just said.

Anyways, Hynix, that company that I am thankful God to not work for, has developed a new NAND flash memory.

Hynix Semiconductor, the second largest manufacturer of flash memory, has developed a new NAND flash memory, 30% smaller than current memory.

The 32 gigabyte flash memory integrates three bits per cell and thus providing a data storage capacity far higher than current MLC NAND (2bits per cell).

NAND flash memories are mainly used in digital cameras, USB flash drives, mobile phones, and music players like the Apple iPod.
