Of course, someone had to come up with this cool election hack on election day, an Electo-meter that tells you which senator becomes the next President of United States.  Make sure to embed your Google Election map today.

Well, my good friend John Erickson tossed together an awesome script for the election returns tonight. The orb starts off dark, and the script periodically checks the election results. As the results come in, the orb will gradually get brighter and brighter blue or red based on who is pulling in the EVs.

I grabbed his script and a spare board I had with me at the office, and used a plastic cup to whip up a quick electoral ‘orb’:

In case you haven’t noticed, eco-friendly and green people have been trying to replace traditional energy-robbing halogen bulbs with bunch of low-energy, low-cost LEDs.  Which is a great thing for safety, energy, and also creative DIYs such as this one that shows you how to make LED chandelier for low-energy, high-style kitchen.

I wanted to experiment with a lot of LED;s on AC mains, and this is the result.
I have used 160 white LED’s for this project and it has been a success.
It gives a bright light and is suitable for the Drawing room, or the Dining room.’
You can have a Candlelight dinner without the candles.
Hang it from the ceiling and you have a decorative light. It is easy to make and is also cheap.

Here’s a really cool lookin’ LED Music Player for this Halloween you can set by the front door window and entertain your trick-or-treaters.

Basically, I wanted to build some kind of LED matrix driven by an Arduino and laptop for some kind of Halloween costume this year. I ended up using Disney’s Electrical Parade song as the inspiration for my costume. As you can see from the video, the matrix cycles through random animations but when I press a button on my wireless keypad, it starts to play the Electrical Parade song along with some (somewhat) synchronized visuals. I haven’t had time to document it all yet, but I plan to after Halloween.

Yey, here’s another cool LED Pumpkin you can make, sorta different from the one I made couple years ago but this one, you can use Arduino to make it.

The Arduino is programmed to pulse the eye LEDs until the victim, I mean trick-or-treater, presses the big red button. At that point the bright white LED will glow, there will be a slight delay, and the servo will trigger a blast from the horn. With any luck the victim trick-or-treater will drop their bag of candy and run….Mmmmm candy.

Here’s a great example of how you can make a simulated LED flame using Arduino and some LEDs.  If you are looking for that special flame effect for this Halloween without all the really hazardous fire, this might be a great alternative to real fire.

The code accepts an arbitrary number of LED outputs, with a minimum brightness for the general glow. A peak brightness and traversal time are generated randomly, and the timed traversal smoothly walks across the outputs. The peak falls off, so the effect is of a smooth motion of the peak across the LEDs, to an arbitrary position along the line of outputs (as a float, rather than always peaking at a specific light). When arranged in a circle, it feels like the light is moving around the group, which casts moving shadows, and gives a flickering effect that’s much more convincing that a single light variably changing brightness.

Using simple LED circuits, plastic cup, and some textiles, the father of this young man has made a cool Mega Man Costume with ability to (almost) shoot fireballs.

I can remember the dayz of playing Mega Man, I think it was the most popular game at one time in history.

Why not re-live the moment using this simple DIY technique?

The Mega Buster was another important part of the costume… I could have just done two gloves, but that would have been lame. Anyways, I liked Mr Wilsons idea of using tupperware for the construction, I just decided to take it to the next level. Read on for my steps and final product.

Here’s another really “spooky” Halloween DIY that shows you how to make glowing eyes that will look scary at night.

Halloween Eyes is the first project using my LMDriver platform (which I’ve been working on, on and off, for about 4 years (real life can be very inconvenient)). The concept is simple; a pair of TERRIFYING disembodied eyes rendered on a 4 5×7 dot matrix displays which look about and blink every so often. Even though I was going for “terrifying”, the most common reaction was “cute”. Yeah, cute like a GHOST.

Here’s a cool set of DIY colo-changing LED coasters.  Basically, it runs on solar power, LEDs light up in red for hot drinks and blue for cold drinks.

Looks pretty simple to make, maybe a good idea for your next circuits projects.
