Windows 7 has officially been installed on a MacBook Pro. As great as it sounds, (the marriage between the two competitors) I think Windows 7 might actually have a chance going against the big Apple this time.

Too bad the multi-touch touchpad can’t be supported on Win 7 but heck, this is pretty good already.

I have been covering a lot of netbooks over at our Laptop Blog, LaptopPimp.com so here’s a re-cap of what went around the laptop world last week or so:

Samsung NC10 Netbook is available now on Amazon, it’s probably been awhile last time Samsung sold any laptops in the U.S. but netbooks must be something they are really rooting for.

Wifi HAVA HDTV unit can let you watch your HDTV from anywhere via WiFi and broadband connection. That means no more paying for hotel TV!

ASUS Eee PC 1000HA is available on Amazon, this is probably the best netbook for the price out there today. There’s also Eee PC 1000HD which comes with Linux instead of Windows XP but I still would go with the 1000HA because of its 160GB storage.

Windows 7 can obviously run pretty well on laptops. Of course, don’t miss out on our Windows 7 review.

Intel and ASUS doing Consumer Research on Laptops!

Intel and ASUS have launched a site called WePC.com, a site that allows regular internet users (consumers) to create their dream PC online and vote on them.

It’s like a social network for consumer research, a very clever idea for getting great marketable response from consumers. I, too, have involved in physical consumer research programs for my previous jobs where we would sit behind a mirror-glass, sorta like the ones they use for interrogation of murders.

Anyways, if you want to build your own PC and tell Intel/ASUS about it, you might get picked and end up with a new laptop.

“Intel believes the spark for innovation can come from anywhere. That’s why Intel is working with Asus to tap into the creative energy of consumers as they share ideas on designing their ideal PC.”

Remember the cool Dell Mini 9 GPS Hack? Well, if you want to hide that ugly Logitech mouse receiver (instead of sticking into your USB ports) inside the laptop itself, here’s a cool hack that shows you how to do it. Of course, don’t blame us if you void your warranty, stick with the factory-setup. :p

What I wanted to do was mount the Nano Receiver for my Logitech VX Nano laser notebook mouse within my Mini 9 without breaking down the receiver or soldering it in. That way it can be removed or replaced easily in the future.

Well, you’ve all heard of the new MacBook buzz and reviews, we are happy to announce that someone has already dissected and reviewed the internal organs of the new MacBook and MacBook Pro.

This dissection goes into detail of how the new MacBook’s packaging is 41 percent smaller than the previous generation and is made from recycled material. I think this can help other users who want to mod or hack the new MacBook so make sure to bookmark this page for future reference.

It’s true that Apple has gone from one of the least greenest companies to being one of the companies that want to go green:

After its long and productive life, your MacBook is almost entirely recyclable. MacBook is made from materials like aluminum and glass, making it highly desirable to recyclers. And highly unlikely that its parts will end up in a landfill. This also makes it possible for the raw materials in MacBook to be used again later in other types of products. And Apple offers recycling services in nearly all countries where Apple products are sold.

How about that, can someone put a new MacBook in a landfill and see how long it takes to decompose less the aluminum and other recyclable parts?

As for how eco-friendly and green the new MacBooks are, here’s what Treehugger have to say on it:

Apple feels the new products are pretty dang eco-friendly. The new MacBooks are arsenic free glass, BFR free, mercury free, PVC free, is Energy Star compliant, the screen is LED and uses 30% less energy, they use 37% smaller packaging, and have earned an EPEAT Gold rating.There are definitely some real pros to the new process, but what happens to all that aluminum that is cut away?

It does definitely look like a great idea, especially if you can refer to the history of why Apple did this on Gizmodo:

It may seem revolutionary, but the method Apple is using derives from the early 20th century monocoque (”single shell”) technique of using an object’s external skin to support structural loads. It has its roots in the airline industry where a price drop in aluminum in the 1920’s made it affordable to meet the demand for stiff, strong, smooth skins that could handle the stress of high altitudes and increasingly powerful aircraft. By the end of WWII, almost all high-performance aircraft were built using monocoque or semi-monocoque technique.
