Need that new hard drive, but don’t know how to go about installing it? Well, it’s super easy. Even this guy can do it:

According to him, just slide the wires over and insert your hard drive. That’s what she said, too!
Oh man. I’m so funny.

Here’s an idea I had been thinking of before, getting together bunch of 16GB SD cards and making a Solid State Drive.

Apparently, a company in Germany has made this type of device available already, what a great idea:

With the Flexi-Drive S2S we introduce a flexible adjustable memory solution.

Simply insert the desired number of SDHC cards (max. 6) into the Flexi-Drive’s slots. The card’s individual memory capacities merge into one and are available as a single drive then.

Benefit from this flexible, convenient memory solution that can be used as a normal 2.5″ SATA HDD providing the advantages of a SSD: no noise emission, low power consumption and shock resistance.

I must admit I do spend an awful amount of time in front of my computer and there’s always need for some nice toasted bread.

Here’s a Toaster Drive that will fit on any 5.25″ drive bays and you can connect it to your PC power supply for power.

How cool is that?

Now, I have a toaster to make myself breakfast without having to leave my comfy (and cheap) IKEA chair.

We listen to Gamers and what product do they want the most? Turns out Gamers crave toast. Enter the CrazyPC 5.25 Bay Toaster. What better way to satisfy that late night snack craving than a healthy piece of toast? Just slide in a slice of bread - and voila you have toast in just minutes. The Bay Toaster fits in a standard 5.25 drive bay and installs in just minutes. Comes with Windows software for adjusting heat and time (Mac OS version coming soon!)

The development of the Google algorithms was carried on on a variety of Computers, mainly provided by the NSF-DARPA-NASA-funded Digital Library project at Stanford. Click to see the equipment in its laboratory setting on the basement floor of Gates Information Sciences. Crawling the web to obtain its link structure required an enormous amount of storage in comparison with typical student projects at that time. We show here the original storage assembly, containing 10 4 Gigabyte disk drives, giving 40 Gbytes total.

Samsung has just announced their new FlashSSD drives.

With a read speed of 200MB/s and write speed of 160MB/s, The 256GB SSD is supposedly 2.4 times faster than you regular ol’ hard drive.

SEOUL, Korea (AVING) — <Visual News> Samsung Electronics announced today that it has developed its 2.5-inch, 256 GB multi-level cell(MLC) based SSD using a SATA II interface at the fifth annual Samsung Mobile Solution Forum held at the Westin Taipei Hotel.

With a sequential read speed of 200MB/s and sequential write speed of 160MB/s, Samsung’s MLC-based 2.5-inch 256GB SSD is about 2.4 times faster than a typical HDD. Furthermore, it is only 9.5millimeters (mm) thick, and measures 100.3×69.85 mm.

Samsung is expected to begin mass producing the 2.5-inch, 256GB SSD by year end, with customer samples available in September. A 1.8-inch version of the 256GB SSD is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Fibra from Belgrade has created an interesting drum system. It uses old hard drive read/write arms as drum hammers. The original hard drive voice coils are used to move the arms. The picture above is the new system which doesn’t seem to be documented yet, have a look at the video for a demonstration of the first version. If you need a larger hard drive project fix have a look at these hard drive projects.
