New MacBooks were release today, all constructed from single piece of aluminum, well the outer casing that is.

As for how eco-friendly and green the new MacBooks are, here’s what Treehugger have to say on it:

Apple feels the new products are pretty dang eco-friendly. The new MacBooks are arsenic free glass, BFR free, mercury free, PVC free, is Energy Star compliant, the screen is LED and uses 30% less energy, they use 37% smaller packaging, and have earned an EPEAT Gold rating.There are definitely some real pros to the new process, but what happens to all that aluminum that is cut away?

It does definitely look like a great idea, especially if you can refer to the history of why Apple did this on Gizmodo:

It may seem revolutionary, but the method Apple is using derives from the early 20th century monocoque (”single shell”) technique of using an object’s external skin to support structural loads. It has its roots in the airline industry where a price drop in aluminum in the 1920’s made it affordable to meet the demand for stiff, strong, smooth skins that could handle the stress of high altitudes and increasingly powerful aircraft. By the end of WWII, almost all high-performance aircraft were built using monocoque or semi-monocoque technique.

Well, it seems like the iPod Touch 2G is officially ready for the masses.

The main difference between iPod Touch 1G and 2G is that the 2G version is much more thinner with a glossier finish while holding much larger data storage of 32GB or 64GB.

I would buy the new version for the extra storage space but don’t know if anything else has really changed enough to be better.

The WiFi antenna looks much better integrated, the speaker doesn’t sound like complete trash despite not even having any speaker holes, and the thing is crazy thin. Like, really, really thin.

SIMable can unlock iPhone 3G!

SIMable is a little chip you can put on your SIM card/chip to unlock your phone.  Apparently, you can use this for unlocking a iPhone 3G.

I have tried every option so far and none of them worked but I got a sample pack a few weeks ago from SIMable and decided to try that, it worked first time and with a little bit of chopping and changing I have the phone running on 3G vodafone.

Is iPhone the Biggest Advertising Scam Ever or What?

As much as I love the iPhone and its browser that’s capable of opening most websites flawlessly, I do hate the Apple iPhone ads that are truly misleading in how fast an iPhone can browse.

If I could, I would tell Steve Jobs to start making real ads that tell the truth instead of faking it with super-fast internet speeds.  (I am sure his face would turn red and he’d admit that he “took” consumers money and ran)

Now, if you can actually improve the iPhone to do what everything shown in this video, I might change my mind.  With AT&T’s slow 3G network, I know it’s never going to happen.  (Yes, another thumbs down for AT&T)

If you asked me the video below was a scam, I would tell you yes with a real, straight face.

At least two people complained to the ASA that the ad was misleading because sites that use Flash and Java don’t work on the iPhone, and the board agreed, saying that “We concluded that the ad gave a misleading impression of the internet capabilities of the iPhone” because “viewers were likely to expect to be able to see all the content on a web site normally accessible through a PC rather than just having the ability to reach the website.

Here’s some leaked pics of what the Nike+ would look like working with the iPhone.  You do have to admit iPhone is useless for fast internet browsing on the go but it may proved to be a very good tool for running around like crazy and graphing out how you ran.

the biggest improvement over the old Nike system may be Google Maps support:

We don’t know just how robust the Nike+ maps support will be, but mapping routes directly on the iPhone could make for more organized training sessions. If only we had the coordination to use the iPhone’s touch interface while running.

I hate to be the one telling you this, especially if you own an iPhone 3G already, but it’s SLOW!

No matter how fast AT&T’s 3G network becomes, that will not change how fast the iPhone 3G runs as the iPhone 3G was never intended to run that fast.

Apple, however, did an amazing job of photoshopping their advertising to “fool” consumers.

But don’t forget the fact that the iPhone does still come out as the winner for the best mobile browser with YouTube support.  That’s one thing that might persuade consumers to buy but definitely not speed or the slow AT&T 3G network.

It’s plainly obvious all commercials exaggerate the greatness of their devices. And a YouTube user has produced a rather amusing (and well done, I must say) video to demonstrate that Apple’s iPhone 3G commercial is no exception.

The news is that iPhone 3G is causing a quite a stir with its “crack”.  Well, it’s always a great idea to have never bought one in the first place.  Wait until the “crack” is gone.

My honest recommendation is to wait for the iPhone 4G, where speeds will actually match the dollar amount you pay out from your pocket.  Or maybe this crack isn’t that common unless you drop it from the roof.

Here’s a cool apple hack on how to replace the cells in your Apple Powerbook G3 if your batteries keep running out of time.

I decided to get new replacement cells from Battery Space instead of surplus cells at a slightly better price elsewhere. There are nine 18650 Li Ion cells in each battery, so I ordered 18 of them at a cost of about $100 with solder tabs. When they arrived, I carefully followed the instructions here to disassemble the first battery. It looked identical to the one in the photos there as you can see below.

Beijing Apple’s Outdoor Display was confirmed running off a Windows XP computer.  Now, this is ironic that Apple wouldn’t power their own displays with their computers.

Perhaps, the Windows XP probably saved some operating costs than using a Mac for the purposes of the outdoor display.

Consumers will be confused to whether Apple is promoting Windows XP.  I know I would.  (Maybe Steve Jobs hired some really bad technicians)
