SiteHoppin Re-Launched as Domain Search Engine!

One of my greatest websites I ever made (and hard-coded all myself) using MediaWiki open-source as base platform is SiteHoppin.com.

SiteHoppin has been re-launched as a domain search engine. Basically, it’s like Digg but we only store your URL infomation, no content whatsoever other than previews under iFrames.

You can also submit your blog/website URLs as they will get indexed by Google and other search engines much quicker.

Due to time constraints and the fact that SiteHoppin wasn’t generating any revenue, I had to put the project on hold while I took the time to rejuvenate all the blogs in our Zedomax Blog Network.

Anyways, SiteHoppin was launched on January 1st, 2008. It’s getting to its anniversary soon so I’ve been spending more time fixing stuff. Plus, I think this SiteHoppin site is a hidden jem on the internet. It’s a site that lets you check out random sites in the domain search engine database too.

You will notice the SiteHoppin button on this blog on the upper-right corner. If you press it, it will basically let you “site hop” Zedomax.com and other sites I have visited in the past. (I intend to sell this randomizing technology for large companies in the near future so randomizing can be outsourced to SiteHoppin instead of taking up MySQL processing power on your server. This is really great for large sites where randomizing can be very costly.)

I have just started developing SiteHoppin again as of couple days ago so there’s a LOT of fixing/bugs/upgrades that need to be done.

While that’s being done, don’t hesistate to press that “SiteHoppin” button to find out what it’s all about.

One of my blogger friends Jason over at Blogtomic has just launched a new Wordpress Tutorial Social Networking site called WPTut.com where you can submit your Wordpress HOWTOs and get free marketing.

A Wordpress Tutorial site called WPTut.com was launched last week (in secret) by one of my friends Jason from Blogtomic.com.

He created a social networking site completely from a Wordpress blog so it’s kinda cool in that sense. If you’ve got some Wordpress tutorial, you should submit them here.

Zedomax Blog Search Engine Update!

I’ve been so lately that I’ve hired Andrew, one of our network bloggers to do blog posts since last couple days ago. (Yes, I will have to update who writes the post, I forgot to add that during the Wordpress Theme change.)

Anyways, I have been busy but I will hopefully come back to full-time blogging soon.

The latest update on the Zedomax Blog Search Engine includes recent searches and popular searches so you can check out what other people are “searching” for.

Web Hack - How to Make Your Site Popular!

One of my favorite books is “Click” by Bill Tancer, it’s a book about how millions of people are clicking and why it matters. Of course, I’ve devised my own plans on how millions of people are clicking and how to make them click 2-3 times more. (I will have a blog post on that too on my Adsense Optimization blog soon.)

Anyways, in the book Click, Bill Tancer goes into details about how people like to search “how to xxx” on Google and other search engines. This is really common sense and search engines should evolve to answer questions based on “how to” do something.

That’s also another reason for my new search engine theme, to let people search for “how to” articles instead of simply reading the homepage.

The most fun part about this search technology and how it’s evolving is the fact that none of this you can learn by getting a degree in Computer Engineering (which what I did). But I will tell you one thing though, in 5-10 years, all this SEO and search engine crap will be in computer science textbooks. (I hope to write one someday)

To make your site more popular, simply add more “how to” articles to your site, that’s what WonderHowTo did. (And also advertise on related howto sites like this one.)

Here’s an excerpt from WonderHowTo’s CEO Stephen Chao himself:

My particular view is that video will rival (and possibly overshadow) text some day, not because I have any rational stats to back up my hunch, but mostly because I feel like ‘watching’ the answer to many HowTo queries rather than reading them. That is as much science as I care to impose on the debate. But remember, we are in the first inning of the internet-video game: the next eight innings will define the outcome.

Does the HowTo space warrant a dedicated search engine? Or will Google per se organize the great results of HowTo space? Great as this company is, Google cannot aspire to be all things to all people. AltSearchEngines observes this truth every day. Niche search engines are permanent additions to the internet landscape. In the how-to space there are many Balkan Republics, which makes the task of organizing this ’space’ inherently challenging, and a great opportunity for a company like ours.

The funniest thing about this blog post itself? (is that it’s a how to article…and it’s true, I just told you the secret to making your site more popular with simple wisdom that’s already been backed by people like Stephen Chao and Bill Tancer)

BTW, I love your book Bill, it gave a good overview of how I should run my blog business.

Bed Blog Search Engine Launched!

Bedzine Blog Search Engine has been launched today and I had to work (or play,hack, whatever) for the last 24 hours w/o sleep.

The main reason I am spending so much on this new blog search engine idea is the fact that it can help readers find what they “want”, not simply the latest blog posts on the home page.

Of course, our web stats been hitting the roof last couple days too, mainly due to people “searching” after landing on a blog post they are not interested in.

I will probably doing this to more of our blogs in the network and also probably provide custom integration services to those of you who want it but don’t have the skillz to implement this new feature.

I am really stuffed with a few client consultings right now but if you want this feature implemented to your blog theme “seamlessly’ by the inventor myself, please leave a coment or send an e-mail to zedomax [at] gmail.com and I will put you on my priority list of people who can take advantage of the new Web 3.0 (we’d like to say) style blogs.

Of course, I won’t charge much for the service, maybe $200 to $300 depending on your current blog theme and also provide free upgrades on the various different improvements that will be coming down the road.

If you are tech savvy though, I do highly suggest you to download my free Wordpress theme, which I just implemented on the Bedzine Blog.

Zedomax Blog “Search Engine Style” WordPress Theme v.0.1 Available!

Yey, I finally made a Wordpress theme available for people to download. (I have made tons of them in the past but never realized that it could be helpful for others)

This WordPress theme is the one I used like yesterday. (I already developed a 3-column version of it that you see now)

Anyway, I had to pretty much water the theme down as much as possible so you can customize it to your liking.

This theme will help your blog to get more visitors and also help the visitors FIND stuff over traditional blog layouts. I’ve been watching over last 24 hours how many more people “search” on this blog, simply due to the fact that I have emphasized search more.

Zedomax Blog “Search Engine Style” WordPress Theme v.0.1 Available!

Zedomax New Wordpress Blog Search Engine Theme!

Yey, I’ve been working all day until now, which is 3AM, to design a brand new Wordpress Search Engine Blog Theme.

Basically, what I’ve realized is that there’s over 5000+ blog posts in this blog and it’s hard to find any good information anymore.

By hacking the Wordpress from scratch (hacking the defauly Kubrick theme), I figured out a way to make your blog into a “visual” seach engine, sorta like Google with 100×75 pixel pics.

This type of theme might be great for those of you who have over 3000+ blog posts but still using traditional layouts where it’s going to be almost impossible for visitors to find your old posts.

Anyways, you should now be able to find stuff a lot easier using the big ass search function at the top.

I am not done with it, I am just too tired to keep going.

Tomorrow, blog posts will probably be delayed until 3pm or so, I will be sleeping a LOT so if you need me, please e-mail me and I will have to get back to you.

Also, I will either make this theme available for download soon for those of you who want it so stay tuunnneeed.

Oh yeah, this theme is really cool by the way because it’s sort of a mix between a magazine style blog and a search engine. YEY!

Here’s my new Web3.0 design for Zedomax’s new Wordpress Theme. Well, it looks kinda crude since I put it on my kitchen whiteboard but I will let update with HOWTOs and the theme available for free download when I am done.

Basically, I will be redesigning the site to be more like a search engine. Since Zedomax.com has a LOT of information but it’s hard to search, I will make a custom Wordpress image search. That would be fun hey?

I have been noticing how many new RSS subscribers HackNmod guys are getting, (and I am joulous) I think it’s due to their content layout and easy navigation.

Anyways, I might be a little slow on blog posts over the next couple days, Zedomax will be back with a fresh new Web 3.0 search engine style blog.

Firefox Hits Record Market Share at 20%!

Yey, my favorite Firefox browser hits record market share of 20%! Although still far aways from taking over IE, it’s far better than 4-5% couple years ago when Firefox started becoming more and more popular among U.S. users. (Btw, Asian users still rely on IE mostly, due to the fact that most of their online credit card systems work exclusively with IE’s encryption technology. I have been one of those users in South Korea where almost every bank website requires you to use IE.)

Here’s a funny story though. I happened to be helping one of my friends build his business in San Francisco. When I first checked out his computers, I installed Firefox since the IE7 was so damn freakin’ slow. Well, after couple weeks when I checked back with him, he told me his computer got faster after I installed Firefox. Lol…yes Firefox is much faster, especially on the new Vista systems where IE7 will just fall apart after awhile.

On the side note, Chrome is steadily increasing its market share too, a great thing to have more browsers competing for consumers’ throats.

Internet Explorer (IE) dropped from 71.52% to 71.27%, according to Net Applications, and remains the software with the fastest declining market share among a group of the six most used browsers. Since the beginning of this year, IE lost 4.2 points, while Firefox gained 2.99 points, Apple Safari 0.75 points, Opera 0.13 points and Google’s Chrome 0.74 points.

The only other browsers that gained market share between September and October was Opera, which jumped from 0.69% to 0.75%. Apple’s Safari dropped slightly from 6.65 to 6.57%, Chrome from 0.78% to 0.74% and Netscape from 0.63% to 0.45%, according to Net Applications.

Things have been a little crazy as I have been running around town helping small business owners get ahead using my guerilla blog marketing techniques. (I also wrote an E-book for intermediate bloggers over at my Adsense Optimization blog.)

Anyways, I spent couple hours today upgrading my server from a Dual-Core Woodcrest Xeon processor to a Dual Quad-Core Harpertown Xeon processor. Of course, I use and recommened Cari.Net for any kind of dedicated hosting as they have good servers at good prices.

One of the new things that Cari.Net offered was this thing called “KVM over IP”, basically allows you to control your web server remotely as if your mouse and keyboard was actually connected to the web server.

Of course, you can actually do this without the KVM using other sofware like Hummingbird Connectivity.

The greatest part about the KVM feature is that it’s actually a separate hardware from the web server. So if your web server goes down for some reason, you can simply hard reset it using the KVM connection since KVM will not go down.

Usually, I’d have to wait for the technical support to hard reset my web server, with the KVM, I can bypass that step and restart it. (which really saves my day)

I did pay an extra $30 for this services since my blog has a history of going down about every couple days. (mostly due to too much traffic)

I should have upgraded the server long time ago but because of financial budgets, I needed to wait out as long as I can. Although I am not doing that well now, I am proud to present you the same blog on a faster machine.

As an advice, if you are going to upgrade your dedicated server, you want to wait out as long as possible as there’s newer, cheaper servers that come out every month.

I usually do a server upgrade about once every 6 months, now I am stuck at the top-of-the-line server from Cari.Net. The next step is probably to upgrade with 2 web servers.

You might never see it but I do a lot of “fighting” with various hackers who try to take this blog down. (for one reason or another) Well, at least with this new server, I will have more hardware power. Yey!

Anyways, I don’t want to bore you readers with web server management but if you ever need some help, feel free to shoot me an e-mail, I will make a DIY article out of it.

I didn’t add any graphics so it’s fast and you can easily access it from mobile devices too.

It’s basically a site that will shorten URLs like http://sdfkcs.com/jdsf923jfdsaf to http://CozyURL/120.

It’s a free site and your link will permanently remain so please knock yourself out the next time you need to shorten that long GoogleMaps URL, or simply want to remember one number for viewing the site on your mobile phone.
