Can’t decide between Galaxy S4 and HTC One?

Well, let’s look at both phones from just looking at the specs and see which one is better.

For size, Galaxy S4 comes at 136.6 x 69.8 x x 7.9mm vs. HTC One’s 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3mm. Both phones are similar size but Galaxy S4 is much thinner. – Winner Galaxy S4

For weight, Galaxy S4 weights 130 grams while HTC One weighs 143 grams, Galaxy S4 is also much lighter. – Winner Galaxy S4

For CPU, both Galaxy S4(U.S. version) and HTC One use Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, Galaxy S4 clocked at 1.9Ghz and HTC One at 1.7Ghz. Performance should be nearly identical on both. – Winner Both.

For Memory, Galaxy S4 comes with 2GB or DDR3 memory while HTC One with 2GB of DDR2 memory. – Winner Galaxy S4

For screen, Galaxy S4 uses Super AMOLED full 1080P screen at 5-inches with Gorilla Glass 3 while HTC One uses Super LCD3 full 1080P screen at 4.7-inches with Gorilla Glass 2. Screen quality should be pretty crisp and clear for both phones while Gorilla Glass 3 on the Galaxy S4 should protect the phone much better (3 times stronger than Gorilla Glass 2). – Winner Galaxy S4

For Camera, Galaxy S4 comes with 13.2 megapixel camera and 2.1 megapixel back camera while HTC One comes with 4 megapixel camera and 2.1 megapixel back camera. Megapixels aren’t everything they say but 13.2 megapixel seems a whole lot better than 4 megapixels, which in this case may matter. – Winner Galaxy S4

For Battery, Galaxy S4 ships with 2600mAh battery with removable back while HTC One comes with 2300mAh permanent battery. Since both have same size 1080P screens, Galaxy S4 is surely to have much longer battery plus have the ability to go many days with extra batteries. – Winner Galaxy S4

For Speakers, HTC One comes with dual stereo speakers while Galaxy S4 comes with mono speakers. Winner HTC One

For storage, Galaxy S4 has options of 16, 32, or 64GB internal storage with external microSD slot to extend additional 64GB while HTC One comes in 32 or 64GB flavors with no external storage. Winner Galaxy S4

For software, Galaxy S4 comes with latest Android 4.2.2 while HTC One ships with last year’s Android 4.1.2.  Winner Galaxy S4

Final Result: Galaxy S4 vs. HTC One

(Galaxy S4)9 wins vs. 2 wins(HTC One)

Of course, just by looking at specs doesn’t mean Galaxy S4 is better but surely there’s a clear advantage Galaxy S4 has over the HTC One in hardware alone.  And no, this specs fight isn’t about design, just about “specs”.

Thanks Max, these are the two phones I was deciding between when my upgrade time comes up. I really like the speakers on the HTC one, but that now seems to be it’s only plus.

  2. Leo says:

Awesome Max great run down and more info for the non android user.
Love your videos and used them well and I would go for S4 just because I have been using it since my first android was the Galaxy S Vibrant and then the S2 and now the S3.
I never liked the HTC sense and when it all comes down to it, it is all about preference.
But this specs article is very informative.
    Keep up the good work.

  3. Odie Prem says:

Something must be said for build quality, and since the S4 is really just the an S3s Im going to assume it sucks, because like all the comparisons you made above, it merely an assumption.
    S4 = S3s = bleh

  4. boojay says:

Congrats for writing one of the most terrible comparisons I’ve ever read.

  5. Raider09 says:

All trolls F**K off and go to H**L!!! Why make insults. Either make one better and post it or just say nothing. Good job Max. I hope you make a video next showing the actual ins and outs of the usage on both and how it differs and is better from the S3.

  6. Carl .s says:

well done Max great job as always..!!
    and well said raider09..!

  7. Ron says:

What about the graphics capabilities. I would expect that to be part of this evaluation. How do they compare ?

    • Max Lee says:

They would be about same for performance as they are using same processors, even with Octo core, I would say performance is nearly identical, no advantage for S4 nor One.

  8. erndog says:

Does the htc one have 4 megapixels or 4 ultra pixels? You should also do a test where you open up apps on both phones to see performance and multi task to see how they both handle..

    • Max Lee says:

HTC One has 4 megapixels total, ultra pixels are just non-sense marketing term but pixels aren’t everything although in bright sun light, pixels do matter, I do see S4 much better than HTC One in bright light but low light may be different results.

I think both phones are awesome and both have their con and pro.i think it all comes down to your preferences. For me couple things i like most is the htc camera features and you can control your TV. Both phones can control TV, but i think s4 have a little more cool features. But i wouldn’t get anyone of them due to the screen size.for me once using the big screen such as the galaxy note i don’t want to go back to the small screen as much as i like all the cool features those phone has.

  10. jmaz says:

I simply don’t want my phone to look like the iphone. Score one for a very powerful and beutiful phone-HTC One. Originality and good design counts.

  11. techtranny says:

Sounds good on paper to bad in real life the Htc One has the better overall camera, much faster & fluid , no lag , more iintuitive, actually has better better battery life & optimization.

  12. Piero says:

Fist of all Max great job your doing, and people we need to get along, it does not matter which phone is better SGS4, HTC One or iPhone at the end of the day it real comes down to preference. But real do we have to resort to bad language if you have nothing better or nice to say don’t say it simple real. every one have a great day.

  13. Steve says:

I don’t know why weight has become such an issue. I much rather prefer to have a devise that feels…I don’t know premium! How in the world can you declare the galaxy as a winner in the weight category, it’s a piece of plastic crap, built wise. As if the 13 grams are really going to drag down my pants!!!

  14. Ash says:

Can you help me? I know this is really out of place but when I watched this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BF21YFusp8 , I got stuck into recovery mode and every time I boot it takes me there, and I really dont know how to fix it.
