Top Five Gadgets That Have Been Designed To Keep You Fit And Healthy

Technology and innovation is nothing new to the medical profession in fact we probably would not be living as long as we are these days without such innovations. However, as technology becomes more available we are finding that such equipment is now becoming available at a price that is easily affordable. In this Top Five we are going to be looking at some of the more interesting and innovative ideas that can heal, monitor and warn people on their health status.

CardioDefender system from Everist Genomics

Imagine combining an easy to use ECG system with a Smartphone and the result would mean that the user and their physician would be able to monitor the rhythm of the heart without the patient actually having to visit the hospital. Well this is what the CardioDefender system promises and it has already been approved by the FDA.

Here are just some details from Everist Genomics on the CardioDefender system;

A heart arrhythmia (also called dysrhythmia) is an irregular or abnormal heartbeat. Heart rhythm problems (heart arrhythmias) occur when the electrical impulses in your heart that coordinates your heartbeats do not work properly, causing your heart to beat too fast, too slow or irregularly.  The effect of these electrical impulses on your heart can be seen with an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) evaluation.

Therapy light that uses NASA technology

In these days where perfection is desired by many people, this device sounds like a dream come true! It is basically a therapy light; it is based on LED technology that was developed by NASA. The idea is that the devices twenty four LED’s pulse at different infrared light wavelengths, which in turn is said to help the skin regenerate through the production of collagen and improved blood circulation.

These are the details on the Aesthetician’s Skin Rejuvenator;

This is the therapy light used by aestheticians to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and enlarged pores. Based on healing light therapy developed by NASA, the device has 24 LEDs that emit four pulsating wavelengths of infrared light to stimulate the production of collagen and cell growth, resulting in smoother, younger-looking skin.

Soon contacts will monitor blood glucose levels

Some people with diabetes are having to prick their fingers and monitor the their blood sugar levels many times a day, unless you have to do that it is impossible to imagine how that feels. However, work being carried out by research teams from the University of Washington (UW) and Microsoft Research Connections are working on a contract lens that can do this job just by processing the data in the patients tear ducts. The data can then be sent to a monitor where the patient is able to see exactly how they are, without any of the hassle of taking a blood sample etc.

Here are the team and how they see the natural user interface (NUI) developing;

Babak Parviz, a Researcher at the University of Washington, and Desney Tan, a Senior Researcher at Microsoft Research, are developing the “functional lens,” a contact lens that would address all of these issues and more. As envisioned, the lens would be worn daily, just like regular contact lenses. But in addition to (or instead of) correcting vision, the lens would monitor the wearer’s glucose level through their tears.

This technology is in its early develop stages.

Reduce pain with the power of LED

It is amazing how LED’s are able to do so much with so little power. We have seen how they are able to save energy, but that is nothing when compared to this pain relieving device. This device can be used to ease aches and pains in joints; it has a similar effect as deep heat treatment but without the heat. This is because the LED light is able to penetrate the skin, improve blood circulation and therefore relieve the stress on joints and other injuries.

These are the details for the LED pain relieving device;

Using technology developed by NASA to heal astronauts’ injuries, this device’s 60 LEDs produce safe infrared heat to stimulate blood circulation, relieve swelling in joints, and loosen tight muscles. A study at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee showed the LED technology reduced painful inflammation by up to 37%.
