What is it like on the minimum wage?

For many millions of people the minimum wage is a reality and at $7.15 (NY) per hour just what would it be like working for a solid hour for that amount of cash?

To find out and to demonstrate to the rest of the work force lucky enough to not have to do a manual labour job this machine designed by Blake Fall Conroy tells it as it is.

The machine has a clear Perspex tank full of pennies and in order to start earning the user simply has to crank the handle, it will release a penny every 5.04 seconds and if kept going for one hour it would have released exactly $7.15, now you really know what it is like to work for the minimum wage!

Features of the minimum wage machine:

The Minimum Wage Machine allows anyone to work for minimum wage. Turning the crank will yield one penny every 5.04 seconds, or $7.15 an hour (N.Y. state minimum wage). If the participant stops turning the crank, they stop receiving money. The machine’s mechanism and electronics are powered by the hand crank and pennies are stored in a Plexiglas box. A 2008 piece consisting of custom electronics, change sorter, wood, Plexiglas, motor, miscellaneous hardware and pennies. Dimensions: 15″ x 19″ x 72″.
