For those of you looking to shoot photos/videos in the rain (which I did the other day using a grocery plastic bag for my Canon 7D DSLR while shooting BestBuy BlackFriday), you might want to consider some DIY options such as this DIY digital camera rain protector built with sheet metal.  Of course, the DIY needs further improvement for heavier rains or windy rains where the rain falls sideways but it’s surely a good place to begin DIY rain shield.

According to the author, this is pretty good against light rain plus it doesn’t take a whole lot of time to make if you got the tools and some sheet metal lying around:

Installation is as simple as it gets.  You can just line up the hole and shove the screw from your tripod right through it and into your camera.  If you want to use it hand held, just use your own 1/4 20 screw to hold it in place.

The whole project from start to finish took about 15 minutes and cost nothing because I had the stuff lying around.

Here’s a quick video of the DIY-building process by the author too:

Well, that just gives me couple more ideas, perhaps when I have more time, I will do a similar DIY on a DSLR rain shield with some scrap sheet metal.
