Green DIY – How to Green Your Pencil, Pen, Etc…etc…

by max on Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Missy over at our green blog has posted an awesome DIY that shows you how to green your pen, pencils, and other alike-desktop accessories.

Use a pen or pencil made with materials that are earth friendly, such as FSC certified wood, corn based plastic, bamboo, and whenever possible go for pens and pencils made using recycled materials. Some notable companies in this space include Sustainable Group, which manufacturers pens made from FSC certified wood. Another is Keep America Beautiful which carries pencils made from recycled denim. Yes old blue jeans. How cool is that.

there's also a cool company called O'BON which makes recycled newspaper pencils. I bought some at the green festival and love them. the gentlemen at the booth said that any of the leftover materials are made into a variety of other products and the dust on the floor is swept up and put into the compost bin.

i actually bought them because they were so so beautiful.

you can check them out at www.myobon.com, nice folders too.
  • First of all, make sure you are using all of your OLD pens first-and don't throw away the plastic! You use them in arts and crafts. Pencils are probably better than pens. Reduce before reuse, and recycle. No buying there.
