The Best 52″ 120Hz LCD HDTV Review!

by max on Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Recently, I have been going to practically every electronics store and I have to say, a 52″ 120Hz LCD HDTV is the one to get.  Well, I’ve seen enough of them, here’s a review of different brands you can get although they are practically all the same.

In particular, you want to look for following qualities when buying a 52″ LCD HDTV:

  • 120Hz – This is the refresh rate of your HDTV, I will only be reviewing 120Hz HDTVs here but if you are in the retail store to buy one, make sure your HDTV is 120Hz, anything less would be not ideal.  120Hz equals better videos since more frames per second.
  • Contrast Ratio is another factor that’s important, if not the most important.  Higher is better.  You will notice the difference in real life between various different HDTVs with different contrast ratios.  Usually, the HDTVs with higher contrast ratio will look clearer.

Samsung LN52A650 comes with 50,000:1 contrast ratio, Full HD 1080P, and 4 HDMI ports.

I like Samsung HDTVs as I own one myself right now.  Either Samsung and Sony can’t go too wrong.

Price: $1899 on Amazon

Sony Bravia W-Series 120Hz 1080P LCD HDTV is the twin, evil brother of the Samsung.  It has a slightly worse contrast ratio of 30,000:1.  That’s probably why it’s slightly cheaper than the Samsung.  Not a bad choice still, Sony had good TVs ever since they were invented.

Price: $1786.96 on Amazon

Sharp Aquos 52″ 120Hz 1080P LCD HDTV is the poor brother of Samsung and Sony.  At 10,000:1 contrast ratio, we can clearly tell this one lacks heavily over the others but not a bad choice if you are on a budget.

Price: $1421.91 on Amazon

The Philips 52″ 1080P 120Hz LCD HDTV comes with 33,000:1 contrast ratio, second to the Samsung.

It’s about the same price as the Samsung so I’d have to go with the Samsung if it came down to these two.

Price: $1931.82 on Amazon

In all, I would have to heavily go with the Samsung, it’s the best bet for money and you can really beat 50,000:1 contrast ratio for the price.
