Sony’s new 360 degree Glass Speaker!

Posted in Audio, Consumer, Cool, Gadgets, Music, Speakers by max on the May 29th, 2008 at 2:19 pm

Sony\'s new 360 degree Glass Speaker!

Check out this 360 degree glasss speaker from Sony.  It won’t be available here in the US for awhile but still…it looks cool and I bet the sound is good too.

Sony announced the launch of its unique glass speaker system named Sauntina (model: NSA-PF1). It vibrates with a single three-dimensional depth, producing clear sound in 360 degrees. The glass tube can also be illuminated with the choice of three colors including blue, amber and purple. 360 degree sound is not a big deal and can be achieved easily using normal speakers too, but this is something new and sound reproduction is done using vibrating glass instead of coil as in normal speakers. It will go on sale in Japan on June 20th for 1,050,000 JPY.

Here’s more videos of the Google’s new mobile linux operating system, the Android.  I am starting to like it more and more…

Google’s latest Android prototype is miles improved over the versions we last saw. Back at CES the GUI was clunky and the whole thing looked relatively primative; Google themselves asked us to keep an open mind and instead concentrate on the OS’ potential. Now, they’ve brought out a device that you could, frankly, mistake for production hardware.

DIY - How to Make Biodiesel!

DIY - How to Make Biodiesel!

With the crazy fluctuation in gas prices, especially here in San Francisco, you can cut down on additional carbon footprint through biodiesel and here’s how to make your own biodiesel at home!

This is my tutorial for using my appleseed processor to make biodiesel. This tutorial will get you through the process of making biodiesel, but not the necessary washing process. I will do my next instructable on dry-washing biodiesel.

Biodiesel is a great way to go green, and cut your carbon footprint quite substantially, not to mention it’s cheaper than diesel. Biodiesel will run in a diesel engine, I don’t recommend trying it in a gas engine.
The process for making biodiesel uses an oil, a catalyst, and an alcohol. In this case: Waste vegi oil (WVO), NaOH (lye), and methanol.

Please read up on this before you start, and please understand the chemical dangers involved in this process.

Pong Table!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Design, Furniture, Gadgets, LED by max on the May 29th, 2008 at 11:23 am

Pong Table!

Look at this cool Pong Table, I would probably eat cereal with one hand and play pong with my other hand.

Designed by Moritz Waldemeyer, it’s part of MoMA’s Design & the Elastic Mind Exhibit. A Corian table embedded with 2400 LED lights and 2 trackpads turns it into a modern version of the 1972 Atari Pong game. Pushing the technology a bit further, he also crafted a LED-based roulette table, which sports an electroluminescent map and an overhead lamp that work in conjunction to provide the rolling ball action casino dwellers know and love.

Bikers now can get Garmin Edge 705 GPS for Bike Navigation!

Bikers now can get Garmin Edge 705 GPS for Bike Navigation!

Garmin, a popular GPS manufacturer, has just introduced Garmin Edge 705 GPS for bikes.  The GPS system features the ability to monitor where you’ve gone by downloading data to your computer after your long cycle ride.

Looks great for people who are serious tracking their cycle data but if you just need a GPS, you could probably just stick a Blackberry with GPS and GoogleMaps to your bike using some clamps.

The Edge 705 combines (take a deep breath) GPS maps and navigation, heart rate, cadence and power output into a palm of your hand wireless unit. It can display up to 16 separate metrics during the ride and combined with the included software and web-based apps it becomes an incredible tool for social networking, exploration and serious training analysis.

DIY - How to Make a 2 Tap Cornelius Kegerator!

DIY - How to Make a 2 Tap Cornelius Kegerator!

HEre’s a fun DIY that shows you how to turn a small refrigerator into a 2 Tap Cornelius Kegerator so you can drink all day and night long. Great job guys, this is the best DIY this year so far, cheers!

Recently we decided that we were tired of bottle conditioning our beer ( a 1 to 2 week process that gets you carbonated beer) it’s long and boring and we were sick of it. The solution? KEG IT! Kegging your beer means that instead of cleaning 36-50 bottles you clean a single keg and your liquid lines. Commercial kegs are great and all, but they are not easily re-fillable at home with your own stock. Home brewers solve this problem with Cornelius kegs. The great thing about these is their ease of use, and that their tall instead of fat. A mini-fridge used as a kegerator can often hold 2 Cornelius Kegs where it could only hold a single quarter barrel commercial keg. You end up with 2 types of beer, more volume of beer, and it tastes better too.
