Hi All,

I was over at AdTech 2008 today in Moscone Center, San Francisco. Guess who I ran into? Well, it was kinda planned but at the last minute, I figured to get some advice from one of the world’s top blogger, John Chow, and share some of his secrets with you.

Since he was featured on Entrepreneur magazine couple months ago and he is making $30K+ per month from his blog, I figured I couldn’t lose by asking him couple questions. And of course, share all that great knowledge with you, my readers!

I mean I have read his blog and all, but I think I learned a lot more from asking the questions I had in mind than simply reading his blog. I had a lot of clutter that was kept in my mind cleared away, thanks John!

From what I’ve heard from him today, I think I can start turning this blog into a cash-cow from what is now $1000/month to hopefully around $10K/month by next year. (Hey, Zedomax.com is getting 4000-5000 uniques per day too, maybe it’s time I focused more on RSS instead of simply traffic.)

(If you haven’t subscribed to Zedomax.com via e-mail, do it now!)

DIY Proxy HACK - How to Proxy Firefox through SSH!

Posted in Cool, DoItYourself!, Educational, Entertainment, Hack, Web, WebApp by max on the April 14th, 2008 at 1:33 pm

I know there are many ways to build a proxy on your web server. In college, they make you make a proxy server from scratch. Well, anyways, I site hopped onto one of these cool little howtos on how to proxy firefox through your SSH:

    PuTTY on local machine
    Remote host running OpenSSH
    sh -D 7070 username@host.com

    1. Create a new PuTTY session

Run PuTTY and create a new session in PuTTY to connect to the remote host that is running OpenSSH. Fill in the hostname, the port (usually 22), make sure SSH is checked, give it a session name and hit Save.

    2. Configure a secure tunnel
Click on “Tunnels” on the left and set up dynamic fowarding for a local port (e.g. 7070). Under “Add new forwarded port” type in 7070 for the source port, leave the destination blank, and check Auto and Dynamic. Then it the Add button. If you did it correctly, you’ll see D7070 listed in the Forwarded Ports box.

That’s it for tunnels, as there is no need to create more than one. Remember to save your session profile in PuTTY so you don’t have to set up the tunnel next time.

    3. Connect to the remote SSH box
Double click on the connection profile and type in your username and password when prompted.

    4. Configure Firefox
Go to Tools, Options, General, and then click on Connection Settings.

Check Manual Proxy Configuration, leave most of the fields blank, but fill in 127.0.0.1 for the SOCKS v5 host with a port of 7070 (or whatever you used in Step 2).

    5. Enjoy
That’s it. From now on, as long as you first log into the remote ssh host with PuTTY, your Firefox and IM traffic will be routed over a secure tunnel to the remote host and then out to the Net. Good stuff.

    Note:

Use Pidgin with these settings for your IM needs.

Use Thunderbird with these settings for email.

If you’re using linux, skip the first three steps and run

DIY TV HACK - How to hook up your TV to your computer! (Or 2 Monitors)

DIY TV HACK - How to hook up your TV to your computer! (Or 2 Monitors)

DIY TV HACK - How to hook up your TV to your computer! (Or 2 Monitors)

Well, this is a real short hack (or a howto really) for hooking up your TV to your computer.

First, you will need a dual-monitor graphic adaptor or extra graphic adaptors.  (1 per monitor) If you don’t have one, go buy one with lots of RAM over at your favorite electronics store.

*If you have a laptop, you don’t need a dual-monitor, just use the S-Video or the video outputs. You will need to hit that monitor shaped button along with Fn button couple times usually to make the screen show.

You can also get DVI to TV cables if you want better resolution but I simply hooked up via S-Video since most TVs support that and I don’t feel like shelling out another 30 bucks for the cables.

After you have your graphic adaptor installed, hook up your PC Monitor and your TV as shown above. (The picture shows how I hooked up S-Video but even better if you have that DVI connectivity on your HDTV or DLPTV. You can also hook up to another monitor if you’d like. I only used TV example since I only have 1 monitor.)

If your graphic adaptor comes with some software, install that too.

DUALMONITOR3

Now go to your Display Settings. Click on #2 and select on “Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor” and hit “Apply”.

You should now be able to drag any of your windows into your TV and enjoy SiteHoppin or watch YouTube videos in full screen.

Here’s a video explaining the whole thang:

Watch “Live” Masters Golf Tournament this weekend on the web!

Watch Masters Golf Tournament this weekend on the web!

Hey, now you can watch Master live on your TV. Since I am always busy blogging even on weekends, this allows me to flip back and forth between blogging and the Masters. Even better is if you have dual monitor setup.

I used to record every Masters couple years back, actually I did record every Masters from around ‘95 to ‘03 or so…

Cheers everybody, you should be watching golf on TV today even if you are not a raving golf fan like i am.

Go watch the Masters “Live” over at Masters.org

New type of Skateboard - T-Board!

New type of Skateboard - T-Board!

Check out this T-board, it’s basically a skateboard with 2 wheels instead of 4. It seems to travel pretty fast and mich better for surfers, snowboards, who are trying to stay in shape during summer months.

You can order a T-board 38 inch here and T-board 41 inch here.

Firstly what’s a T-board?!

“The T-board is a high performance carving hybrid built specifically to mimic the sensation of carving on a snowboard or surfboard. Because the wheels form an edge right under the arches of your feet the carving sensation is one of the purest out there.”

41″ Snowboard / Surfboard Geometry Deck 41? long by 9 5/8? wide based on traditional snowboard / Surfboard geometry this board is perfect for aggressive downhill carving or longboard - style cruising. The Rubber “Indy” Wheels are specially profiled for intense downhill carving. Borrowing material and technology from Indy car tires these wheels really grab asphalt and offer greater edge traction for more controlled carving on medium to extreme declines.

Quake 3 on the iPhone or iPod Touch!

Wow, I am gonna have to try this on my iPod Touch!

Quake 3 Arena has yet to be matched (some will argue I know) by any first person shooter game on the market as far as speed, multiplayer gameplay, and overall FPS experience. Rocket arena was my forté.
Now, Quake 3 has been ported to the iPhone. Movement is triggered by the iPhone’s accelerometer (you have to physically tilt and rotate the iPhone). Personally I think this is super cool, and I can’t wait to see if they add the ability to strafe jump.

Hot Spot “Remember” Ring to remember your Anniversary or any other important dates!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Design, Gadgets by max on the April 11th, 2008 at 1:45 am

Hot Spot Ring to remember your Anniversary or any other important dates!

Well, here’s a cool little nifty jewellery gadget that let’s you remember important dates like your anniversary.

24 hours before your special day, the Hot Spot™ on the interior surface of your Remember Ring™ will warm to 120º F for approximately 10 seconds, and continue to warm up every hour, on the hour, all day long!

Hot enough to cause discomfort but not hot enough to burn-the Remember Ring™ is impossible to ignore!

“Remembering our wedding anniversary is easy with Remember Ring™!” says Thom Ketmann, who has been married for 4 years. His wife Cayli agrees. “At first I was pretty upset! Like, why do you need a silly gadget to remind you? But then I remembered how angry I was when he forgot my birthday. That won’t happen again.”

It’s maintenance free! Using a micro thermopile, The Remember Ring™ converts the heat from your hand into electricity, keeping the battery charged and microchip clock running perpetually. Just specify your anniversary date when you order, and we’ll program your ring for you. Set it and forget it-until your anniversary!

Some fans of the Remember Ring™ wear multiple rings. “I got two of ‘em.” says Jon Harshmen, “Well, I got one actually-my wife got me the other one.” Holding up his hands to show both rings he says, “Anniversary and Birthday, baby. It’s like a hand gun. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.”

Remember Rings require no special care, and are completely water proof and impact resistant. Select one of our seven styles in 14k white and yellow gold. Available in sizes 10-13.

Of course, it’s truly and strictly a mechanical watch that can act like a digital watch in reality. I wanna get one!

Looking at this limited-edition Di Grisogono Meccanica DG, you probably think it’s a hybrid mechanical-digital watch. Well, chaps, you’re wrong. Despite its appearance, the Meccanica DG is completely analog, comprising of 651 pieces and absolutely no digital parts or LEDs whatsoever.
