Sharp working on Solar LCD TVs!

Sharp working on Solar LCD TVs!

Sharp is working on solar LCD TVs for houses without electricity.

The only question I have is, if they don’t get electricity, will they get any TV reception at all?  (Maybe air reception is good… real good…)

LCD prototype which uses just a quarter of the power (or a third measured annually) of a conventional CRT with the same screen size. That’s low enough to be suitably powered by a Sharp, triple-junction thin-film solar cell module whose surface area is roughly equivalent to that of the LCD screen.

DLP TV HACK - How to Reset Your Samsung DLP TV Lamp Hours Setting!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, DoItYourself!, Educational, Entertainment, Gadgets, HOWTO, Household, Projects, TV by max on the July 4th, 2008 at 11:04 am

Well, today, my 42″ Samsung DLP TV I bought in 2005 broke down on me.  The only thing I got from the TV was a Lamp LED going on and off.

So I figured that it was time for the Lamp to be swapped out for a new one.

Before doing that, I ran into this blog posts about how to reset the Lamp hour setting on the Samsung DLP TV.

Once I resetted the Lamp hour, my TV started working again!  Yey, I guess the manufacturer, Samsung, put an hourly limit on the lamp so you replace the lamp but hey, why replace it until it’s truly broken?

Here’s the simple instructions on how to reset that lamp hour setting and make your DLP TV lamp last longer:

Mute + 1 + 8 + 2 + Power.

Your TV set should now say “Loading Factory”.

Browse down to “Option” then press Enter (or the right cursor button).

Wow, this thing IS pretty amazing, when can I buy one for $2000?

One thing for sure, Comcast has money to burn…

The media wall covers an area of over 2100 square feet and uses four-millimeter LED lights, packed together as one giant, seamless array. It plays all manner of video, and even cool segments where three-dimensional-looking dancers seem to hover in thin air at five times the resolution of HD television.

DIY Hack - HOWTO Make A High Voltage Supply in 5 Minutes!

Here’s a fun DIY for experimenting with some high voltage from spare TV parts.

In this Instructable you will learn how to make a High Voltage High Frequency power supply in 5 minutes and for less than $20.

All you need is a compact fluorescent light (CFL) and a flyback transformer.

Flyback transformers are found in TVs and CRT monitors. They make the high voltage, high frequency current necessary to trace the electron beam across the screen. They are small and compact, and you can take them out from an old computer monitor or TV.

Crank TV Remote with No Battery!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Earth, Eco-friendly, Entertainment, Gadgets, TV by max on the June 10th, 2008 at 11:32 pm

Crank TV Remote with No Battery!

Here’s a prototype TV remote that works by user squeezing the handle to generate little itty bits of electricity to change the channel or the volume. Nice work, this might be the start of many other battery-free remote controls.

This is the No Battery Remote Control by the SMK Corp. it works on the principal similar to one of those toy ray guns, where the user squeezed the trigger a few times and it began to light up the lights and make futuristic sounds. This RC has a similar mechanism which is enough to power the RC for a few changes of channel and maybe even volume control too. It’s a prototype at the moment, but it has to be the best green TV remote around.
