Posted in Consumer, Cool, Entertainment, Funny, Gadgets, TV by david on the October 29th, 2007 at 2:00 pm

No its not that type of Apple this one looks like an apple and is not an Apple as such although it could be, it appears to have an identity crisis.

apple tv

This is a ten inch LCD TV, which is enclosed in a nice big red apple, has 800 x 600 pixel res, 4:3 ratio, the screen has and estimated screen life of 30,000 hours which is around 12 twelve years usage.

apple tv

This a great for a child’s room as it would appeal directed towards that age of consumer although it is not a requirement. When the doors are opened up it reveals the TV and speakers that are placed inside the each door.

Priced around $520.

Ceramic RC

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Entertainment, Funny, Gadgets, TV by david on the October 29th, 2007 at 12:00 pm

Why are remote controls made from such easily broken materials? When they get the amount the punishment that they do, after all they are thrown around and chewed by the dog, it no wonder that some people try to make one that can survive the troubles of the home.

ceramic remote control

This particular device has been made out ceramic which is really tough and the buttons are built into the top so the whole thing looks likes an ash tray or saucer, there are not many details that cover how this is built or what the operations are.

Clearly this is another prototype that may or may not get off of the ground.

Neat way to hide your cables

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Entertainment, Funny, Gadgets, Household, TV by david on the October 28th, 2007 at 2:00 pm

If you want to hide your wires and cables, but at the same the same to you may wish it a small bit of New England charm to your place.

picket fence

If that is so then look no further than this picket fence idea that skirts around the bottom of the wall and at the same time hides all of those nasty looking cables. This may not work in a really modern apartment, but in a nice older type property which has a bit of character, then this could be right for you and your home.

You really need to have base boards or as we call them skirting boards once the picket fence panel is place onto the base board this will create a space which is ideal for all types of cable and wire. This is just an idea at the moment, but it quite possibly could go into production.

DIY balloon sent up 30km

Posted in Cool, Design, DoItYourself!, Earth, Educational, Entertainment, Microcontroller, Space by max on the October 28th, 2007 at 12:46 pm

a href=”http://vimeo.com/359554/l:embed_359554″>Launch and Retrieval from natrium42 on Vimeo.Check out this DIY Balloon that made it 30km!

High altitude ballooning is an emerging hobby, since price of GPS and communications equipment has gotten quite low. It is an excellent hobby for people fascinated by space flight and telerobotics and has many learning aspects — from systems design to electronics design to software engineering. There is also an exciting risk factor, namely, that you could lose your precious electronics if something malfunctions. In this project, many of my interest and knowledge areas came together. Also, I have verified that the Earth is indeed round and that space is black.

Bre Pettis of MAKE also built and launched a near-space balloon, but never found it. See his videos (part 1 and 2).

This is a great idea for kids of all ages and it will bring back the past days of your youth when there was nothing better to do, other than build planes out of sheets of paper.

paper plane launcher

This is slightly different than those old days when the planes only went a few feet before diving into the ground and smashing up. This device will launch your craft to reach speeds of almost 50 kph, which is astonishing when you think that it is only paper.

Priced at a low $14.95!

Credit cards the next generation

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Funny, Gadgets by david on the October 28th, 2007 at 6:00 am

The security issues concerning the chip and pin in credit cards has come under increasing scrutiny by both consumers and industry professionals, so how are they going to address this issue?

keypad card

The new cards may have its own twelve button keypad that would work with the in bedded microprocessor. The problem with the old system is that it should have been secure, but the banking industry did actually use the cheapest option for the chip and pin and therefore it has been left open to exploitation from criminals.

This particular card system has been developed by Innovative Card Technologies and eMue Technologies and will be unveiled at the Cartes & Identification in Paris this November.
