Artificial corneas could save eyesight

Artificial corneas could save eyesight

Cool, artificial corneas might save your eyes in the future. Or even your loved ones…

This is great news for myself since I wear contacts and have a very bad -10.5. (I can’t even get Lasik because my eyes are so bad!)

Well, just in case my cornea goes bad….that’s what I meant….

Working with other colleagues in the EU-funded CORNEA project, research scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP in Potsdam and the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Regensburg have found a solution. “Our artificial corneas are based on a commercially available polymer which absorbs no water and allows no cells to grow on it,” says IAP project manager Dr. Joachim Storsberg.

DIY Garden Sprinkler

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Funny, Gadgets, Household by david on the October 10th, 2007 at 12:00 pm

Why go out and but an expensive garden sprinkler, when you can quite simply make your own, instructions below:

sprinkler

The DIY Sprinkler:

Take a 20oz plastic bottle with a cap

Measure the thickest width of male hose attachment.

Drill a slightly smaller hole in the cap, than the hose attachment width.

Drill three rows of five holes each, vertically on the bottle.

Remove the refill of the 15 pens and cut them to a size of 2 inches.

Insert each of the pens into the holes drilled in the bottle and fix them using plumbing adhesive.

Glue hose attachment to the cap.

Apply glue on the mouth of the bottle and close the bottle tight with the cap.

Turn the water tap, the hose is attached to.

Treat your garden plants with water sprinkling all over them.

Price Cheap!

DIY - Make yourself a keyboard made out of wood!

Posted in Consumer, Cool, DoItYourself!, Educational, Entertainment, Gadgets by max on the October 9th, 2007 at 6:30 pm

Wooden Keyboard Kit

Yo, this is tight as* keyboard kit you can make! A wooden keyboard?!?

Yamaguchi Kougei, the wood products and lacquerware dealer based in Fukui prefecture that created the Hacoa brand, typically crafts each keyboard by hand in a labor-intensive process that allows them to complete one keyboard per day. The slow production process makes it difficult for the company to fill large orders and prompts them to charge around 50,000 yen ($435) per keyboard. However, Hacoa’s new “Ki-Board DIY Kit” (ki, which sounds like “key,” means “tree” or “wood” in Japanese) aims to lighten the company’s labor load — and boost production and lower prices — by letting the purchaser do some of the cutting and assembling at home.

A strange looking candle

Posted in Consumer, Cool, Funny, Gadgets by david on the October 9th, 2007 at 10:00 am

Ordinarily this candle would not look out of place anywhere. In fact candles are all the rage these days. But there are some problems associated with them, there is the naked flame for one and worst of all once lit the candle just burns away to nothing and then you have to start again.

This is the worlds first remote control battery operated candle that is made out of real wax; you get all of the feel and smell of a real candle but with the benefit of not wearing out.

remote candle

Features:

Battery-Operated LED Unit
Wax Candle
Remote Control
Dimensions: 6″ H x 3″ W, 9″ H x 3 W” and a 12″ H x 3″ W
Weight: 12.6 oz.
Warranty: 30 days

This is a great idea and will be good for any place, anywhere.

Priced at $39.99
