Blackle – The energy saving version of Gooooogle

Blackle

Check out Blackle, it’s a Google-based search engine that supposedly saves energy by making the background black. But when I do searches, it seems to give you those limited results kinda like the Google search bar on Zedomax.com. I think all they really did is put a Google Search on a black HTML page. (Maybe we will make one to and get some traffic.

Blackle Traffic

Talking about traffic, check out Blackle’s web traffic! Blue is Blackle and red is Zedomax. Wow…

An all white page uses around 74 watts to display, while an all black page uses around 59 watts to display, so you can see that there is a saving there, no matter how little. However Mark Ontkrush of Eco Iron has done the math. Check out the results on this page.

  • It's true 'BLACK' saves energy. If I keep my desktop background color 'BLACK' then my computer starts faster then if I keep a background of some other color or an image.
So if google's doing that to save energy, I think it's good......
  • Its the most comfortable to read off a white background. I find it fairly straining to read long amounts of text in white over black. So while we may save some power, I think we'd cause more strain to our eyes. So no thanks. I'll pay my power bills.
  • It's a good concept for CRT monitors but it doesn't save a lot of energy with a LCD though
  • girrrrrrr2
i actually tried it... and i think that it will eventually be its own search engine... becyase the defualt function(search Blackle)...
  • Qbranch
Yep... it works on a crt monitor... though an LCD actually takes more energy to display a black image... and it seems more and more PC bundles come with LCDs not CRTs... I think i'll stay with Google Search...
  • Energy Saver
I like using the Carbon Neutral Search Engine it uses Google Custom Search but offsets a minimum of 100g of CO2 per search
  • Hi to all,

I think blackoogle is better than blackle.

  • I use darkoogle.com since they have the 'similar pages' option in the result page just like the normal white Google.

i like the blackle concept!!!! recently while surfing i also found Blackle games; interesting concept: play games and save the world!!. WHat we really need to do is to stop being lazy and actually do our own work and reduce using machinery and wasting resources.

There are around 16 different versions of “black google” online. The best one I’ve found is www.cleanblack.com. Cleanblack is the only version that allows you to change the text colors of the google search results. Try it yourself by going to www.cleanblack.com/theme/

Try this, "Google Search for Good" - Saves energy like Blackle and donates more than 50% of profits to charity www.bellzar.com
  • Interesting to note that Blackle is probably making at least $10-20K
