This is a neat little machine that you can build up and assemble into your own little engine that when placed on top of a hot cup of coffee, the machine actually begins to work, the hot air rises and pushed the cylinders up, as they are on a sort of crank shaft as one reaches the top the other begins to lift and so forces the other one down, just like an engine.

It can also work with extreme cold as well, the principle being the same.

This would make an amazing gift for a young engineer, priced at $29.

  • Hi,

This is really amazing to see a complex machine at very simple price of $29. This is a perfect gift for a JUNIOR ENGINEER. Definitely I would like to gift it to my young engineer who is studying in second year engineering...
  • Forget the junior engineer, im putting this on my desk in my cubicle! :) haha... that would totally make people stop and stare for a couple minutes, lol
    "dude, wheres the batteries???"

    hahaha... good times
  • girrrrrrr2
now how muck heat would it take to make this work... i am just thinking of ridgging a coffee pot to work with this...
  • Shouldnt take much... Stirling engines are known for needing very little to keep them going

"It can run for hours (one person even managed over 12 hours!) "

How about riging up an Opto to it then count how many turns you can make it do in total :)
  • Bill
That's a good idea, Carl. Might be neat to print some kind of small message in dots on the outer wheel so it spelled something out as it turned. Or a simple animation of someone walking or something.
  • hell, just hook it up to a generator! hahaha... and if your going that far, ya might as well put it in a microwave and plug the microwave into the generator!!!
    woot ;)
  • Carl
One day I will get one and try a few things with it and see if i can make it last longer than the 12h
  • Izl
    How strong is it?
